MIRA is somewhat of an unexpected thing to behold. While the story is a bit of a knockoff of the Emmerich formula (family, drama, calamity, spectacle, and family), the attention to detail and overall execution is something else, indeed.
There are sequences in this film that are truly remarkable in every aspect, rivalling some of the best Hollywood has ever brought forth. The camera work, the production design, the acting (including the extras) and the VFX in the impact sequence are quite extraordinary, and the more realistic approach results in a fresh new way of witnessing a terrifying disaster.
I really have to stress again how amazing many of the visual effects really are: not flashy and rubbery like so many things we get to see from much bigger films, but seamless and believable. I really wonder how they pulled of a lot of shots that seem like practical effects, which of course they can't be.
Don't expect a perfect film, though. Especially in the third act, the film loses much of its realism and also goes into full cheese mode, but the good aspects easily prevail, at least for me. And so the verdict comes easy: if you're a sci-fi buff like me, you need to watch this.

A disaster movie yes, but certainly not a disaster to watch with unexpected plot twists and emotional panic as you think the end is nigh.
Special effects are perfectly created in the background, and they are good! It all merges around the cast. A cast of unknown actors who really are good enough so the disaster doesn't steal the screen.
As someone obsessed by space travel, I found the space station sequences so realistic I had to check to see if the ISS was still in orbit.
Well at a cost of nearly £6million it's production has a much sharper edge and excitement than most of those released in Hollywood and Korea.

Residents of Vladivostok are looking forward to witnessing the spectacle of a meteor shower. The public has been assured it poses no threat to Earth.
But they were wrong. Last minute changes show there is a big chance of meteors hitting Earth. Unawares, 15-year old Lera and her 8-year old brother Yegor are just as exited to see the meteor shower. Lera suffers from pyrophobia as a result of an elevator accident several years ago.
Lera's biological father, Valery Arabov, works on the space station Mira. Through modern satellite technology he is able to see and speak to Lera. When the meteors hit, it causes widespread chaos and destruction, and when Lera is trapped under rubble in a building, Valery is able to help her thanks to Mira. But with the space station also suffering substantial damage, time is running out for Valery to guide Lera.
Lera also goes in search of Yegor, who is trapped in a building on the verge of collapse. The destruction scenes are incredibly well done with fantastic visuals and special effects, excellent photography and good editing. With danger around every corner for all the characters, 'Mira' is a nail-biting thrill ride. I enjoyed the characters and rooted for all of them.
'Mira' is a thrilling action adventure survival story in the vein of 'Armageddon'.

Plot: 5/10. Cheesy and unrealistic, a mix between Deep Impact and Geostorm, yet entertaining, although the third act is a bit weak.
Direction and photography: 9/10. Very well made film, with beautiful photography and superb one-shot scenes.
CGI: 9/10. Better than some recent Marvel/DC movies. Close to Gravity. Not a CGI-fest where the plot is driven by special effects.
Acting: 7/10? I've seen the spanish dub, which I think is pretty good. I can't tell about the russian or english dub, so...
In conclusion, a Hollywood's Sci-Fi blockbuster made in Russia, with little to no patriotism. Definitely I recommend it.

What at the beginning showed a lot of promise due the fantastic special effects, halfway through the movie the plot and the worst choices for a dialogue, made the movie not worth it. Some of the situations were kind of cute, while some of others were unbearable to watch. As I said, the special effects didn't disappoint all the way through and if special effects is your thing, you probably are going to enjoy it. The movie is a bit slow at the beginning and then it passes very quickly to major action and super impactful visuals, and the actors were surprisingly not too bad at acting, but the plot didn't help them. Watch it at your own risk...🙄

Mira disaster film shot in Russia. And this is one of the first catastor films shot in Russia, after watching which it is not ashamed. Mira really looks decent, a good CGI for its budget, no "Hollywood" pathos and a simple straightforward plot. Yes, the first third of the film in everything is trying to imitate the Hollywood films of its genre. Yes, there is no star cast here, even by Russian standards. And as in any film, the catastrophe here is a makimally delusional plot. But Mira is simply pleasant to watch without a sense of shame, which is already rare for a Russian cinematographer, to whom the Kino Foundation is involved. I can only advise everyone to watch the film, Dmitry Kiselev has been making a very worthy film 2 times. Yes, The Age of Pioneers is far away, but there is a different budget.

The biggest enemy of the father and daughter in the movie is time!! And yet they waste their time crying over the past and unhappy memories!!! My rating for them is 2.
Please Why don't the Russians try to be realistic?
Stupid people survive and smart people die!! Unfortunately, the filming locations were great.

This is an interesting showcase of an obviously existing Russian desire to make western high-end spectacle movies. Others of this kind are 'Attraction' 1+2, 'Sputnik', 'The Blackout' series, 'Project Gemini' and 'Guardians'.
They are in the Sci-Fi genre not very innovative, rather simple in plot, well acted and technologically (FX,CGI) on a very high level.
It is to mention that they are in no way as outstanding as the two 'Night Watch' and 'Day Watch' movies from the early 2000s.
'Mira' is here a Russian space stations' AI, and it is also the weakest part of the whole movie, since dialogs with her are mostly cheesy.
The sole star is actually the FX and sound design department, which managed to create a fantastic '2012'-worthy destruction sequence of exhausting and captivating eight minutes length, that intrigued me very much. There is another great sequence, where the daughter is attempting to rescue her little brother, and her father tries a repair of the station, and both action strains, though in very different environments, are visually intertwined in a really wonderful manner. Note that this movie is said to have a budget of sparse 5 M Euros, which I consider as a shoestring, compared to western movies of this scale.
I would say that the acting is ok, the best of it comes from the children. The main actress is a bit too old for my taste, though being 18 playing a 15 or 16-year-old girl should be ok, but maybe I mean 'too experienced'. The main actor reminds me often of Mads Mikkelsen.
The paper-thin plot is just there to keep the story running, The family drama of the past is an unnecessary addition to explain the (in Russian terms) weird psyche of the main character, as in special needs because of PTSD. Supporting characters like the mother or the boyfriend (who lost a hand once) are staying superficial.
This disaster movie relies on the tension of time running out during the constant danger of a major cataclysm, combined with the usual family saving efforts. It is very effective with this and entertains greatly, until the final act, which appears to be superimposed and is not very 'realistic'.
One critical point is, between the many ultra-realistic and impressing cinematic danger situations the main characters have to endure to save their lives and those of others, the design team have obviously forgotten about the physics of fire and what it does in confined spaces to the breathable air.
I give the movie 7 stars rather than 6, for also being totally non-political, and for great atmosphere and good pacing.
Watched in Russian with English subtitles.

Mira/The Last Signal has the best special effects I have seen.
C. G. I. was never detectable to me.
Almost the whole movie was special effects made from the viewer perspective such that you felt involved yourself when there was action.
The attention to detail was high.
Scene after scene appeared at a breathtaking rate during action segments, and it was astounding how they could make so many scenes with such difference, detail, and quality.
The plot, although done before, was saved by an original idea about communication.
One must wonder if politics can be used to explain the omission of Oscar nomination.

This is an overlooked little gem of a film.
Film director Dmitry Kiselyov brings what looks and feels like a multi million dollar production to the screen despite the seemingly low budget
The editing and flow between the early on action is incredible and looks like it was done in one shot. No doubt CGI was involved but it was seamless.
The main characters are excellent and believable. Veronika Ustimova (who plays Valeria "Lera" Arabova) is reported as 'not having any acting abilities'. Wrong!! She is fantastic in this film and hopefully will go on to have a great career.
I'll certainly be scouring the streaming services for other titles.

Directed by Dmitry Kiselyov, Mira is a 2022 sci-fi disaster film centered around the themes of family and survival.
The Story The film follows Lera, a young girl who must find a way to connect with her father, a cosmonaut aboard the space station Mira, after a meteor shower devastates Earth.
What Works Mira is praised for its impressive CGI, particularly in the destruction sequence depicting the meteor shower's impact. The film also features strong performances from its cast, particularly the young actress who portrays Lera.
Overall While not breaking new ground narratively, Mira is a visually stunning sci-fi disaster film with strong performances and exciting action sequences. It's a good option for fans of the genre looking for a thrilling cinematic experience.

Although there are a lot of scenes of the style of "2012", it was entertaining. Acting is good and the special effects are great, you can feel yourself in the movie. I do not like fun comments in movies, just like the ones in superhero ones, but in Mira jokes are fun.
This movie is so emotive that it can make you cry a bit. If you are somewhat tired and bored of Hollywood disaster movies, just give this movie an opportunity, it will not disappoint.it was an nice and you can experience it also and you will tell after seeing that movie it was an nice movie I definitely telling you will enjoy it.

You know I hate that Russia is at war with Ukraine but that's not going to make me write a bad review about one of the most amazing foreign films I have seen since Das Boot or Train to Busan. This movie I could watch over and over. The special effects were impeccable and very realistic in my opinion. The entire movie kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. The only thing I didn't like about it was how the daughter was over a flare. Other than that I absolutely loved this film it's in the top 3 best foreign films I have ever seen. I'm going to look and see what else this guy has done movie wise.

It seems one silly odd review of 2 has messed up the entire imdb score.
Its racy pacy fun and exciting throughout.
Dont go by the 5.8 score but its easily nears 7.
Starting with the space station observatory to the story of Mira, the catastrophe, journey through it, special effects, sci-fi and communication hack elements are all worth and put nicely in a no frills package.
Well, there may be few times when it feels unreal but hey ho, dont be too harsh, its a movie friends!
Its a Hollywood grade Russian cinema and comes at par every bit.
Certainly a watch if you like space, natural catastrophe events with a decent ending!

If you can allow yourself to suspend belief in anything logical, you might enjoy this movie. The actors do a decent job, and the special effects are good, but the way the story plays out is so unbelievable it was hard to watch. Everything is a race against time, but the action grinds to a halt frequently so the actors can engage in ridiculous time-wasting dialogue. Instead of keeping you on the edge of your seat, this foolish plot will keep you saying "Oh, come on!!!" Concept-5 stars, Effects-5 stars, Acting-4 stars, Plot-1star, Writing-1star, Believability-0 stars. Bottom Line: Don't waste your time!

I rate this is an eight out of 10 for a very well done disaster movie.
The visual effects of disaster sequences are impeccable. Very few Space(orbital) special effects are done any better that I can remember and very few ground disaster effects are done any better. The filmmakers appear to have taken a lot of extra effort to do those well.
The character development of the main characters (teenage girl, and her father) , and the supporting actors- male friend at school and extended family are well done.
This appears to be a Russian made film dubbed into English. Russian title: Mira, English title: last transmission. A few of the characters are not dubbed well( the step father noticeably) , but overall all the main characters are done quite well. It did not detract from enjoying the movie for me.
The story is told well with appropriately placed flashback memories that fill in the story arc. The pacing of the movie never tempted me to skip ahead or stop watching.
Would I watch again? (My personal measurement overall of if it's a good movie) Definitely.

We truly enjoyed this film, on the edge of our seats many times, totally engrossing. Definitely overlooked gem. A disaster movie yes, but also filled with heart, warmth and success. Won't spoil it for others but it truly bears watching! Filming is well done acting is very good and the disaster scenes are totally believable. Have watched many disaster movies but this one has far better acting and storyline than most others. The movie could only have the ending it did, even though it was not what I would have wished, the ending is totally what was necessary. The final scene was uplifting and satisfying. Go for it!

This movie is amazing ... The only reason you won't hear about it, because it has a Russian connection to it ... which is unfair for a masterpiece like this... if this was made in English and had a Hollywood connection, it would be a blockbuster ... I hope for a future reincarnation in any form like a sequel or similar plot from this production to produce an international movie for international audience, they would love it. Please come back with something , you guys have everything you need ... we , the international community counting on that, and please , next time , do the marketing viscously...
