The more you lie to people, the more they turn away from you. That’s exactly what Nemo learns in Nautilus season 1, episode 8.

After putting lives at risk, the crew of the Nautilus have finally had enough. It doesn’t help that Humility makes the choice to call Nemo out on his wrong calculations in front of everyone rather than talk to him quickly in private.

You see, Nemo thinks they have enough air for six days under the ice, and it will take five days to get through. Humility has worked out that they only have enough air for three days, so they need to turn back. Nemo doesn’t want to do that, and it leads to mutiny on the Nautilus.

The theme of Nautilus episode 8 is one of trust and mending relationships. It’s been touched on in other episodes, but there’s still work the Nautilus crew needs to do.

Youngblood questions Millais about why he played alongside Nemo in the game and then sends a message about where the Nautilus is heading to Crowley. Millais remains silent. We know he believes Nemo ruined his life.

Beneath the arctic ice, the Nautilus crew grows disillusioned with Nemo, who is obsessed with getting to London to exact revenge. They pass frozen shipwrecks with crews who look asleep rather than dead for many years. Their fear leads to a discussion of mutiny and, when Nemo cannot be convinced to change course, they take action.

Boniface Adamu takes the captaincy but not without a fight. He confines Nemo to his cabin and then turns the Nautilus around.

There’s a ton hitting the streamers this month, and August might be one of the strongest lineups we’ve seen in a while. There’s another big Prime Video action comedy I can’t wait to watch (they’ve been on fire lately), plus a new James Gunn series I’ll definitely be checking out after loving “Superman.” And while my taste usually leans more comedy, this month’s picks range from high-seas revenge stories to true-crime thrillers to sci-fi prequels from one of the most famous horror franchises ever. So if you’re looking for something fresh to stream, here are the shows and movies I’m seriously pumped about in August.

While the first episode of Nautilus was a little slow, it quickly picked up in action and drama. There’s no doubt that this story needs to continue.

In some great news, the AMC numbers are great. Cinema Blend reports that the show is a surprising success for AMC, although I don’t know why it’s a surprise. The show was a lot of fun for British viewers when it premiered at the end of 2024.

Despite the success on AMC, it’s possible that Nautilus season 2 won’t happen. This all comes down to the fact that it wasn’t originally created for the American network.

Prime Video's new thriller series The Assassin debuted to an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score among critics, but it's proving extremely divisive among viewers. The Assassin stars Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) and Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor) as a retired assassin and her estranged son. It's one of the best thriller on Prime Video, and now The Assassin has a Rotten Tomatoes score to prove it.

The Assassin's Rotten Tomatoes score currently stands at 90% among 10 critics. The Assassin has only been released in the United Kingdom, but British and Australian critics mostly agree that it's a well-made thriller with engrossing performances from both Hawes and Highmore. While many critics noted that the show has some implausible twists and changes in tone, they mostly agree that it works.

The Assassin's audience score is a different story, though. At the time of writing, The Assassin season 1 has just 28% among about 50 viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

The end of the previous episode seemed to suggest that everyone was in peril. And while that’s the case in Nautilus season 1, episode 6, it’s not as you would expect.

At the end of episode 5, Humility was left behind after getting the eel fin out of the Nautilus. Would the others wake up from their dreams as the submarine sailed away from the heat? Would anyone figure out what had happened to Humility?

In some good news, those questions are answered pretty quickly, with Nemo making it clear how much he owes his life and the lives of others to Humility. However, he isn’t as quick to believe anyone when it sounds like Humility may have seen Atlantis.

When left on her own,...

Right now, if you're opening up Netflix to find something to watch, you're probably clicking on the two top shows on the streaming service right now: Untamed and The Hunting Wives. Both shows debuted on the platform and made quite a splash on the top 10 most popular shows list, and they don't show any signs of slowing down... at least until next week when Wednesday season 2 begins.

But this week, there are some fun new releases to look forward to and add to your watch list. The Sandman fans might be a bit bummed that the series has come to an end, but wait! There's one more new episode coming to Netflix this week. The special bonus episode arrives on July 31 to officially bring the hit series to a close. Still, there's plenty more in store this week!

Episode 6 of Nautilus, "The Big Blue," is a bit of an escapade with a lot of action and investigation. Relationships aboard the Nautilus are becoming more complicated, particularly between Nemo and Humility. Plus, one can't go wrong in July with big sharks, right?

Now that the Nautilus is moving away from the ring of fire, things cool off enough for the crew to snap out of their fugue. Once they realize Humility isn’t with them, they turn the ship around to find her before she runs out of air.

We see another new invention from Benoit: a defibrillator. A fun fact is that the defibrillator was invented in 1899, 42 years after the events of Nautilus. I like that Nemo acknowledges that Humility saved them all. He does have an occasional humble moment.

The dreadnought continues pursuing the Nautilus. Even though they’ve lost the sound signal, Crawley believes they are still close.

Nautilus season 1 episode 4 left the crew of the submarine in grave danger. An electric eel had wrapped itself around them, and it was dragging them down to the depths of the ocean. Well, we pick right back up with that, with Humility trying to figure out a way to fire back.

A flashback of Humility at the French college for boys that she’d previously said she attended kicks off her storyline. She’s sure that she can work out impossible puzzles, and this one with the Nautilus is certainly an impossible one. However, she starts to doubt herself when shocking the eel back doesn’t seem to work.

The title of this episode, "Anguille Fumée," is interesting. It can mean a smokey environment and also is a French smoked eel dish.

This is my least favorite episode of the show so far. It starts out with excitement, witty commentary, and action. However, as events with Archie the dog progress, the remaining portion of the episode is slow going.

We begin with a flashback to Humility attending university in France, disguised as a male and calling herself Marchand. She wears a fake mustache! We learn a bit more about Loti’s role in her life. I love how Loti describes herself as “a devil in a dress.” We are also introduced to Humility’s mother, who arranged the marriage with Pitt.

Back in the present, the Nautilus is struggling with the gigantic electric eel wound around its hull. The huge eye staring into the view window is a bit creepy.

After finding out that some islands harbor dangerous people, Nemo’s crew learns that some islands harbor dangerous creatures. Nautilus season 1 episode 4 leads the crew to a new island in search for food and water, but they end up in another life-threatening situation.

Of course, they need to get out of the situation with the Dreadnought firing harpoons at them first. That leads to Nemo swimming out (without a suit) to smash the glass on the bottom of the Dreadnought to at least get everyone out of the harpoon room. It’s not enough to take down the Dreadnought, but it’s a start.

As for Richard E. Grant’s character, he doesn’t last long. Crawley kills him when he starts asking for...

Episode 4 of Nautilus, "Slippery When Wet" begins with the Nautilus again facing down the pursuing dreadnought. The dreadnought fires upon the Nautilus and intentionally misses, although the explosion still rocks the ship. Once again, a reckless Nemo leaves the Nautilus, this time without a diving suit. He swims over and takes an axe to the turret on the dreadnought. Upon breaking it he is thrown back from the resulting blast.

Billy Millais (Luke Arnold) has flashbacks to his shared childhood with Nemo, when the both of them were bullies by classmates. I’m curious to see if he ever switches sides. At times, he is bothered by the racism of the company men, but then he does his job when needed.

Jules Verne is arguably the father of science fiction with his 1870 classic novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with the enigmatic anti-hero Captain Nemo, and his fantastical submarine the Nautilus. This sweeping tale of advanced technology, revenge, and political intrigue is set in the late 19th Century. It tackles the maritime conflict between man, nature, and how the ocean's resources could be overexploited.

AMC+ has adapted this seafaring novel into a mini-series called Nautilus (2024), which stars Shazad Latif as its helmsman, Captain Nemo. In the AMC+ series, Shazad portrays an Indian prince (Prince Dakkar), under British colonialism is enslaved.
