One time watch

It was an average movie. Too many plot twists within a limited time frame of one hour and fifty minutes, which did not allow sufficient time for character development. As a result, the reveals appeared rushed and slightly unconvincing.

Kareena played the role of a UK cop to the best of her abilities, however, if you're going to play that role, you need to understand how a second-generation British-Indian police officer walks, talks and behaves. And if she's going to stick to this genre of whodunnits or thrillers, she's going to have to learn how to run without looking like the female version of Forrest Gump.

Mid

Bollywood's 'Mare of Easttown'.....? Not sure if that's high praise on this film or that's an unfair comparison, but if you're into the mood for a crime thriller, you might want to check this out.

Kareena and the support cast do a good job. The film is well shot, the color correction stood out for the amount of green in the film. The plot - you can tell that they tried hard to subvert; you know the most obvious person with the motive isn't the real bad guy and that the predictable part in this film. You know someone else will eventually be the focus, and that takes (at least took away for me) the viewing experience, but you may feel otherwise and actually enjoy the film more.

Will recommend for a one-time watch regardless, if you like the crime thriller genre.

AVERAGE

This movie which was a Whodunit was an average movie with lots of twists and turns until the very end. These cat and mouse themed films can only be really enjoyed when everything is in sync viz.very good script, acting direction &editing as there is no glamour to help when another section is lacking Unfortunately this film ticked all of the boxes except the acting. Since this was a very low budget movie besides Kareena there were no other stars which was perfectly understandable &acceptable. However the acting of the junior staff was in sync with the budget, low or at best average! If they had some brilliant performances,it would have lifted the movie a great deal as it had a very good script but this did not happen!

6/10.

Wasted Potential in a Shallow Drama

The Buckingham Murders is more of an investigation drama than a gripping thriller. Despite having the potential to deeply explore the immigrant experience in the UK, it barely scratches the surface, settling instead for a typical web series formula and superficial emotional arcs. The immigrant community's struggles and conflicts remain unaddressed, missing a major opportunity to add depth to the story.

The film suffers from predictable, even amateurish twists, and many scenes fall into cliched territory. Characters' backstories feel underdeveloped, leaving the viewer with little attachment or insight into their motivations. While Kareena Kapoor and the rest of the cast deliver strong performances, they're unfortunately the film's only saving grace.

In the end, The Buckingham Murders is a below-average investigation drama that fails to do justice to its themes.

Little Bang for the Buck

I attended this film with my usual crap shoot selection system. I suppose that this film could have a token Manhattan release given the city's diversity. Producer Kareena Kapoor Khan plays Jaspreet Bharma, a British-Indian detective overwhelmed by grief after her young son's murder. She accepts a demotion just to move and gets to Buckinghamshire. Of course, upon arrival she gets a missing boy case, the adopted son of Daljeet (Ranveer Drar) and Preeti (Prabhleen Sandhu). She refused it, but if that went through there would be no film. KKK is a star back home. But her British accent is not great and she is a poor runner. Drar is pretty good as the anguished yet misogynist father. He has a very sexy mistress to help drown his sorrows. Adwoa Akoto is nice eye candy as Bharma's fast friend on the force Sharon Marks. The true killer has a very weak motive and their identity truly comes out of left field. It felt unwarranted and bizarre. We get to see a lot of the Muslim community and how estranged they are from the mainstream. I felt that this film does what most film goers want. It kills time, but that is about all. KKK's fans will be happy to see her on screen. But the screening only had about a dozen people, three of whom were Indian. She ultimately was not much of a draw.

British police procedural

I feel like the name itself kind of set up this movie to fail. The name makes me think that it's about serial killings investigated by Sherlock Holmes, but it is far from it. The main plot is only about one single murder. It feels very much like a good British police procedural than a proper movie. Even some of the editing, music, the way twists and subsequent actions are unfolded to the way it explores politics, everything has that TV show kind of feel. If it was longer to explore a lot of that stuff, maybe it could have worked more. But despite it feeling like that there are a few small things that did make it work a bit better than such shows. The biggest reason the film worked for me is Kareena's performance as the grief-stricken detective who holds so much repressed anger but keeps calm all the time. This was almost exactly what I expected from the trailer and overall I did like it but I did expect more from Hansal Mehta.

A grieving detective is assigned to a tragic case

Jasmeet Bhamra (Kateena Kapoor), an Indian woman, is a detective in Britain whose beautiful young son was killed in a mass shooting.

She takes another job for lower pay to get away from the area and memories, only to be assigned to the case of a missing ten-year old boy in Buckinghamshire.

The boy is found murdered. A young man is arrested, but Jasmeet is concerned that he is innocent when circumstance aren't adding up. Her boss, however, undermines her, and she winds up on desk duty. That doesn't mean she gives up.

She presents her boss with the facts of the case and points out serious loopholes, asking that she be allowed back on the case.

Somewhat confusing story toward the end with too many twists. For me the most compelling parts are Jasmeet remembering her happy child and her heartbreak. It makes the denouement of the case even sadder for her as well as shocking for the viewer.

A Strong Story Derailed by Stereotypical Portrayals

The Buckingham Murders has a strong plot and an intriguing storyline that pulls you in from the start. It weaves a suspenseful narrative that keeps you hooked until the end. The cast delivers commendable performances, and the film shows high production quality. However, it's difficult not to notice a recurring trope in Bollywood: the inclusion of religious tension, specifically between Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh communities. This time, the addition of these elements felt forced and detracted from an otherwise solid thriller.

It's understandable that art sometimes reflects social realities, but in The Buckingham Murders, the handling of these themes felt stereotypical and added unnecessary weight to the story. The portrayal of certain groups, particularly in a negative light, came across as a cliché, diminishing the film's uniqueness and seeming like a repetitive, almost predictable approach seen in other Indian movies. This kind of treatment might appeal to some audiences but for others, it can feel heavy-handed and repetitive.

If the film had focused solely on the mystery at its core, it could have been a remarkable addition to the thriller genre. Instead, the attempt to add layers of religious and communal strife ends up detracting from the narrative. This movie would have stood stronger without these added stereotypes, which risk overshadowing the well-executed plot and skillful acting.

The script single handedly spoils this movie

This is an example of a movie where the actors, the director - pretty much everyone else does a good job. But the script is so underwhelming, and dare I say, so out of place, that it just single handedly pulls the movie down.

Without going into any spoilers, the biggest problem with the script is that the script writer doesn't seem to grasp that there's something as 'too many twists'.

Towards the end of the second half of the movie, there's a major 'twist' once every 5 or 10 minutes. A lot of them just feels so forced just for a presumed shock value and completely destroys the momentum of the money.

Also, a lot of characters have extremely flimsy motivations behind their actions. Some don't even make any logical sense. And some, might make sense but the story doesn't do enough to make us really care about it.

I am a big fan of crime thrillers, arguably my favorite genre in cinema.

But this isn't it. A fast forward watch at best when it comes out on OTTs. Low average.

One time watch movie

This movie as the name says it's about some murders but while digging into the case it can be seen its not only about murders but also about extra marital affair, domestic violence, gay love affair.

The movie starts with showing a lady cop who had just lost her son, takes transfer to another city to forget her pain and trauma that she suffered in the present city. While she joins her duty destiny again brings her a similar situation where she has to investigate on a kidnapping case of a 10 yr old Sikh boy. The kidnapped boy was found dead in a car and after investigation it was found that a Muslim boy murdered him. The case was solved but our lady cop Jass Bhamra felt that something was missing and she felt the whole thing fishy, even after there was confession on record and also witness confirmed the murder. The movie takes lots of twist and turns and finally after a long struggle it was solved. The murderer was found which was not at all expected by the audience. Kareena kapoor did an excellent job, infact she is the one who has taken the complete responsibility on her shoulders. Who is the murderer and what are the twists and turns? To know about it you have to watch it. Streaming on Netflix,Its definitely a one time watch movie.

One time watch or avoid it

The Buckingham Murders is a sluggish attempt at a thriller that misses the mark. Kareena Kapoor, who appears to have invested heavily in the project to fuel her comeback, struggles to carry the weight of her role as a detective haunted by her past. Unlike her recent role in The Crew, where her natural flair for glamour shined, her performance here often feels forced and lacks authenticity.

Ranvir Brar, on the other hand, delivers a refreshing performance, and several British actors bring depth to the story, outshining Kareena. Their convincing portrayals highlight the contrast in acting quality throughout the film. However, the plot itself doesn't offer much; it's a familiar, predictable tale of a detective unraveling a murder mystery, weighed down by repetitive tropes and a lack of suspense. Overall, The Buckingham Murders falls flat, leaving viewers with little to take away-this one might be best skipped.

Kareena shines in a sub-par slow burn crime drama

The Buckingham Murders has all the ingredients to be a great murder mystery - a character study of a troubled mentally troubled and broken down detective trying to rise from the ashes of a personal tragedy and solve a murder of a child in a community with multiple hidden secrets. Unfortunately even though the main actors give good performances and the story is good but the screenplay is slow and doesn't engage the audience as well as it could have.

The highlight of the movie is the acting of Kareena Kapoor who nails her character and gives a performance with real gravitas. The surprise of the movie is the performance given by Celebrity Chef Ranveer Brar which is pretty good. All the other actors are pretty much in the background, a bit mediocre and dont really deliver anything exceptional. Their performances have a feel of an episode of the many slow burn British Crime Dramas on telly and that is exactly what the movie feels like.....a two parter episode of Midsomer Murders, Happy Valley, Unforgotten etc.

It is only Kareena's performance that keeps the audience hooked to the screen. The mystery slowly keeps taking some weird turns as the various secrets get uncovered but the pace at which the movie drags on isn't enough to keep the viewer excited. The end result is a decent murder mystery with a mostly slow and boring run time to get to an interesting and difficult to guess ending. The only reason to watch the movie is Kareena's performance if you are a fan otherwise watch it in tandem with one of your favorite British detective dramas, it wont be at the same level of quality but will still fit in well. Nice made for TV drama but disappointing as a movie by such a reputable director like Hansal Mehta starring a mainstream star like Kareena Kapoor. 6/10.

A grieving cop investigates a murder case

A British Indian detective Jasmeet is grieving the death of her young son and to get over her grief asks for a transfer to another location. Here she is asked to join a team investigating the case of a missing ten year old boy. While her seniors and colleagues do not agree with her approach on the case she strongly believes that the disappearance of this child is linked to a vengeance, drugs and murder. In a short time she solves the case and finds it has helped to heal herself to some extent.

Director Hansal Mehta just about manages to keep the audience engaged. One wishes he had stuck to a simpler narrative .This whodunit is not among the better ones we have seen. Though the pace is okay there are too many plot twists for comfort leading to some sort of a confusion at places. Kareena Kapoor plays the central character sincerely and tries to do justice to the poignant and traumatic character. She does project her bitterness, anger, sorrow and anguish effectively. A type of " broken heart syndrome" Ranveer Brar is impressive as the misogynistic, vicious man indulging in domestic violence. The location work in UK is done well.

the masses may not appreciate it

After watching #TheBuckinghamMurders, I completely understand why this film spurred Kareena Kapoor to turn producer. I am sure she was blown away after perusing the script. Here, she plays detective Jass Bhamra, who is grieving the loss of her child and is called in to investigate the disappearance of a kid named Ishpreet. The kid is Sikh; the main suspect is a young Muslim man. Will detective Bhamra ensure that justice is delivered? What is the reason behind detective Hardy, her senior, being so eager to crucify the accused? Are the kid's parents concealing something? Performances are excellent, especially by Kareena Kapoor and Ash Tandon. Hansal Mehta's direction is awesome. However, this is a "classy" movie and the masses may not appreciate it. Rating 3.5/5.

A dark murder mystery with a twist.. kareena rocks !!

Movie Review: The Buckingham Murders screening in cinema halls near you!!

A grieving female cop Jass Bhamra ( Kareena Kapoor) who has lost her son to a mass killing takes a transfer to another town where she is tasked with investigating the disappearance of another child .

The perp is caught and a confession obtained.. yet Bhamra isn't sure that they have got their man. Upon digging deeper she stumbles upon some troubled facts .. uneasy relationships .. religious tensions and finally the unexpected twist in the end !!

Kareena Kapoor is clearly at the top of her game as the female protagonist . She shows both her tough side as a cop as well as her sensitive & emotional side as a grieving mother with equal ease.

I was pleasantly surprised to see celebrity chef Ranveer Singh Brar also play a key role in the film. He performs well.

Shot in typical Brit style with a dull gloomy ambience , this is a film which will appeal more to OTT audiences. Without any great music or songs to boast of, or any over the top action scenes, it might not draw the typical theatre going audience... thanks to Dharma, YRF and co.

Not bad at all ... Catch it on OTT at least if u aren't able to watch it in theatres!!

Going with 3/5 ... Adios 🙂!!

20 years and still can't act

This is a murder mystery where Kareen Kapoor is the lead detective. The first half of the film starts OK but turns in a maze of confusion in second half. It appears the story is written just to make a complex murder mystery but doesn't make much sense. It relies on a number of unrelated co-incidences happening together just to keep it interesting. Kareena's acting is very average. It seems she is just doing what she has been told to do and that is pretty much it. Scream when you are asked to scream; slap when you are asked to slap. But she is not able to portray any emotions leading into any of those actions. Disappointing that someone who has spent around 20 years acting can't still do justice to a serious role. I would suggest to give the movie a pass. Nothing new here.

Engaging Thriller with Rushed and underwhelming End

Kareen Single handedly pulled this movie on her shoulders with her superb acting as a grieving mother.... The Movie start is solid and keep you engaged and you get to see Ranveer Brav the Chef here...Paaji portrays as solid Hot headed Punjabi Dad whos son goes missing..

The movies very watchable till you see the first layer of incident opens and from there it goes downhill....it seemed rushed dont know the Director was in hurry to finish this off or what that instead of twisting the tale further just opens up the plot and the end was so underwhelming...if the director could have or would have made this a cliffhanger with further mystries then this would have been a masterpiece and we would have eagerly waited for Part 2....but seems bollywood bimari..

Watch this movie for Kareena kapoor only with great support from Master chef...

It could have been better

Why didnt Kareena worked on her accent? How can u cast her for a role where u are living in uk and working as a police officer and dont have a proper accent! Her acting was not so good either. Little over the top.

I forgot she is a producer offcourse so she can do what is want.

Have seen better movies of yours Hansal Mehta.

Dont have anything more to say. Just had the urge to write about Kareena. Because i couldnt find it in any reviews. Nobody is talking about that. Dont know why.

Must watch everyone

OMG, The Buckingham Murders is an absolute vibe! I stumbled upon this gem while looking for which movie I can go and see in the theatres, and I'm so glad I chose this one! The cinematography is visually stunning, and the way they built up the tension is masterful. The characters felt so real, and their struggles were so relatable. I was like, 'Can't look away!' The plot is so gripping that I found myself watching late into the night. If you love movies that keep you guessing, this one is a must-watch! Seriously, y'all need to give it a chance and just see the thrill of the entire plot and the mystery it builds.

Gripping Whodunnit

I enjoyed the film and the creators have done a great job. The film is set in the English town of High Wycombe and the camera dept has nicely captured the town of High Wycombe and it's suburbs.

Kareena has performed nice in her role and I was surprised to see the celebrity chef, Ranveer Brar as a supporting actor, that was surprising. Including some veteran actors would have been beneficial, as the performances of a few supporting cast members were only average. But that doesn't mean the movie is bad, the screenplay is gripping and we make wild guesses but everything goes wrong in the end.

Now streaming on Netflix.

Storyline and appeasement ruined it

Hansal Mehta, with this movie, clearly was appeasing a section of society and was more concerned about communal harmony than his storyline. A lot can be said about this director, who chooses propaganda over reality in all his movies.

Kareena Kapoor's acting was dull and lacked character development. Ranveer Brar surprised us with a decent acting skills;, he is not only a good chef but a decent actor.

The best actor of this movie was Prableen Sandhu, especially at the climax, when her facial expressions were on money. A lot of twists and turns were added in the movie but were superficial and lacked vigor.

Boring

Time waste, below average. Money and time wasted. Full of faltu drama, senseless. Had better expectations. But it ruined it. Full time waste. Nothing to actually show. No real reason to create the movie. Yuck yuck. It was just simply going on. There was no meaning. Not sure what was the point. Faltu copy of Holywood though it looks cheap only. Would not recommend. Seems like the movie was created in 1920 and showing it now. Not sure how this can be made even. Doesn't worth the time or money both. Please don't go if you value your hard earned money. Please think twice. It was a bad decision for me.

Probably one of the worst movies I've watched in a while

So disappointed watching this on Netflix. Dubbed in Hindi despite being based in the UK with westerners actors. Kareena's was the only voice not dubbed but badly edited in places. The Hindi to English translations were grossly incorrect with swear words where no swearing was happening.

The plot was disjointed and made no sense. It was like a random bunch of ideas thrown in with no story at all and new storylines added here and there. I can't believe someone of Karren's calibre would star in this. Don't waste your time thinking this was a thriller with a plot. I watched it out of curiosity to the end just to see where it would go.
