In a world that is consumed by fake news, Eddie Lowry is an idealist who has been squeezed out of San Diego's mainstream media because of his daring refusal to change into a click bait or sensational journalist. When the truth-seeking reporter begins to gain notoriety on back page blogs for his journalistic integrity, an off-the-books FBI-SDPD joint task force discovers that he could be their key to uncovering a case of corruption and by a subsequent quick stroke of luck, Eddie literally collides into the woman of his dreams, and finds that she could become his key to breaking out back into the mainstream. In a world where mainstream media has become saturated with click bait headlines and littered with misinformation, one idealistic reporter finds himself in a world of trouble after calling out his own industry for the degradation of journalistic integrity by virtue of an article that he wrote titled 'The Art of Misinformation.' Eddie Lowry's daring attempt is met with a heavy dose of futility after he is subsequently suspended from the news station and consequently the scrutiny he finds himself underneath leaves the future of his career hanging from a thread. Tom, the editor-in-chief and long-time friend of Eddie's provides him several opportunities to adapt to the changing landscape of news media, but Eddie staunchly refuses to sell out on his core values. As he continues to seek out truthful narratives to report on, everything he comes up with is constantly denied and advised that they are just not compelling enough to keep up with the more popular sensationalized stories. With no work coming his way, the truth-seeking reporter decides to utilize back page blogs to chronicle his fight for truth in the mainstream media and surprisingly begins to receive a cult-like notoriety from his blog posts. Shortly thereafter, an anonymous source reaches out to him personally to cast light on a pattern of patient abuses within a senior home. In his pursuit of the story, he tracks down and uncovers the anonymous source's identity as being a currently employed nurse of the senior home. As luck would have it, Eddie and Trisha become immediately charmed by one another and quickly form an intimate relationship rooted in the foundation of a mutual admiration of each other's passion for principles. While Eddie and Trisha continue to grow closer, the senior abuse story is repeatedly shut down by Tom until one day, the patient in question suddenly dies which prompts Tom to reconsider running the story. Unfortunately, Tom discovers that Eddie's 'anonymous' source is the woman that he is currently dating and ultimately refuses to print the article ironically because the conflict of interest, which sinks Eddie into an emotional hole that forces Trisha out of his life. While at rock bottom, an off-the-books FBI & SDPD joint task force identify Eddie as a possible key to uncovering their current investigation of city-wide corruption and convince him that they could be the key to finally break him back out into the mainstream media. But Eddie quickly finds himself in over his head, and when the probe unexpectedly puts him in the cross hairs of the corrupted criminals, he is ultimately forced to choose between his values or his life.
