It's so refreshing to see a competition in the form of a course, where people aren't sent home for failing but instead get extra practice time with the teacher. Amaury is not only a skilful and inspiring teacher, he also sets a beautiful example for how to be a good and humble person - something some of the students definitely needed to learn (I'm looking at you, Mellisa).

During the first episode I waited to hear Chef Amaury yell, swear or get angry. Color me surprised when he interacted with his students instead with helpfulness and a willingness to educate instead of tear down and intimidate. The vibe was so fun and mellow. I wasn't expecting that. I really enjoyed this series and hope for a second season to hit Netflix sooner rather than later.

It's a different kind of competition show. It allowed the contestant to learn from their mistakes instead of getting kicked out. The drama, though.... I wouldn't wish a Mellisa on my worst enemy. (You have to watch to understand how awful she is. If you read this, girl, you brought it upon yourself). I could really do without the drama. Unfortunately, having worked in a kitchen before I'm familiar that this dynamic does exists. I'd get rid of the backstabbing, otherwise the show is good.

There are no derogatory or shaming comments from Chef Amaury or his team, and that alone is HUGE! It shouldn't be such a big deal, but shock tv and today's sniping comments in a reality show is usually parr for the course.

Chef Amaury's work with chocolate is stunning and thrilling, and if for no other reason, check those out! His demeanor and teaching techniques are enviable and lively. He teaches one big technique that even amazes the student chefs who are actually all brilliant and/or successful in the dessert/hospitality industry. Then he bases the challenge on that new technique. Also, people at home can EASILY understand what's going on, and maybe add those new options to their home kitchens, just as any professional chocolatiers can grab ahold of these FRESH IDEAS and run with them.

He teaches, challenges and grades better than any other reality show out there. Many more seasons to come, please! Bravo!

I love that it's not an elimination show. It's actually a school and they are there to learn, not compete. The teacher is so genuine and inspiring and professional. He's a breathe of fresh air. We've had enough of screaming and insulting Chefs so it's great to see someone doing it right. Fun and pleasant show to watch.

This show had some amazing chocolate work, from the sculptures to the technique. Amaury kept the tone light and kept all the chefs around to learn, which was different and nice. Could do without all the drama from the chefs, detracted from the bakes.

Frankly, I watch shows like these when I am stressed out and very very tired, but seeing this chef, this amazing person, Amaury, and his impecable way of handling things made me feel a little bit better. Because that is what this types of shows are about, about the people! What grace! The perfect balance between gentle and firm! I wish all of us could behave like him! Leading by example isn't enough! A bit of empathy can and goes a long way! Excellent!

Honestly, I hate these shows. The horrid "other" host, there because they don't think the expert being an expert is 'dramatic' enough... the annoying af editing that shows everything NOT important to the task... the oh so dramatic PAUSE whenever a decision is made... the weirdness of the tasks that couldn't even be created in such a short time frame by seasoned pros... sending people home based on ratings politics over skill (yes showrunners we know this is happening)... and obnoxious attitudes enhanced in the editing room for the sake of those politicized ratings. Normally you can't get me to click within an arm's length of a reality show.

But this is chocolate. And Chef Amaury.

This show is quite honestly just good television. There is drama because it's a kitchen, but moments that would normally have operatic infused faux momentum attached are handled instead with a relative storyline and properly paced editing. The host IS the teacher, and he is not only fantastic but he is KIND and he knows his stuff. The outtakes are there but not spliced with nostril closeups of the most dramatic players or contrived crying scenes.

Mostly my favourite part of the show is that you feel like you are actually a fly on the wall (heaven forbid) of a French patisserie academy and you are getting a glimpse of their year end assignments. Difficult to execute but with purpose and a properly laid out game plan. There is a competitive air but not one that overshadows the group dynamics that would authentically create both drama and emotional up's and downs.

Most of all the point of the show is not dropped to the floor of the editing studio in post. It's the perfect mix of seeing a master at work and being given ample opportunity to ask "what would I do in that situation if that were me?" which is a lot of why people watch a REALITY show in the first place. Perhaps we need a new approach. We can have True Reality (True Crime is doing well, right?) and R. Drama... "reality inspired" drama, for those who like Real Housewives, Selling Sunset and those Kardashian wannabes. Because I reeeeally hope we see more of this.

Ive only seen episode 1, but i like how in this competition show, everyone gets to stay and is allowed the opportunity to grow and improve their skills. I feel more competition shows should be like this. Keep all the contestants until the end and base the winners on the overall wirk they have done. Getting rid of a contestant over a bad day means you could be getting rid of the best overall competitors. I have watched competition shows from makeup, tattoos and cooking and they all get rid of someone over a bad day, a competitor who had done such good work as to never land in the bottom, has a misstep, lands in the bottom with someone who is constantly in the bottom, but the better artist ends up being eliminated! If the competition was based off of the entire portfolio vs just one day of competition you might end up realizing that the person who wins, shouldn't have.

On a side note, now after watching a few more episodes Melissa has one if the worst attitudes I have ever seen in a competition show. I get its a competition but seeing how humble Daniel was to vote for her instead of himself, then for her to turn around and vote for herself as well, like who the hell does that. Plus during the group projects she has been so annoyed with her team, and just down right has a bad attitude.

I wasn't expecting to be this good. First the host is amazing. He's not only great at what he does he actually cares about the students. He teaches and guides them. I thought maybe somebody would lose and go home each episode, like every other cooking competition show... But No.. Everyone stays and learns how to better their craft. There's still a Lil drama between the students and obviously their competition go against each other to win.. but there's an element calm that I admire. I really enjoyed this show!!

Love that the host is a star chef(instead of a clown host) that teaches during the show. Most of the contestants were not good enough to be there but a very talented person did win. Did not appreciate the attempts at drama by the producers and editing. I watch for the talent and learning not for the drama. For instance the 2nd place person(proof the scoring needs to be improved)should have been at least 3rd as the only consistently good thing she did was constantly over rate herself and berate the judging in every episode. There were way too many group challenges so not enough showcasing individual skills and talent but that may have been because there were not enough talented contestants. Nor did I like the way the groups were chosen. Would like a season 2 with improvements.

I could not get past the constant whining from Melissa. Whaaaaaa. Such a bitter person who felt she was better than everybody else. No rhyme of reason to who wins. The judging was all over the place. Only reason I kept watching was just to make sure cry baby Melissa didn't win. (Won't say if she did) Maybe that was the producers plan all along.

Too bad because I did enjoy seeing the creations.

The professionalism of Amaury just makes this show the best baking show. GBBO has been one of my favorites. But Paul Hollywood doesn't pass on his knowledge. I always think this is a shame because he should be helping amateurs improve. Even if it's a demo after the "competition." Amaury is showing techniques I can use at home. The sugar domes and flower petal techniques were invaluable.

I like that the prize s education along with money. The American shows always have to have a cash prize. In GBBO, they win a inscribed cake plate.

Amaury is kind and generous and he loves what he does. He has a new fan. What a great leader.

Very entertaining show. The only flaw is the is not really focus on the technic as other cooking shows, where you can fooly follow each steps of the creations. Instead there are a lot of cuts mostly focusing of when people make mistakes. But overall it seems a more human approach of cooking competition as people don't get eliminate after each episodes. And the expert chef Amaury seems genuinely willing to help the participants when in other competition the Chef is somehow untouchable and don't want to help anyone to apparently not being unfair. So still entertaining. I would definitely watch a second season.

I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere of this show, it's nice to see something different from the usual baking competitions where every participant seems to be on the verge of a heart attack. I would call this show ''comfort entertainment''.

Chef Amaury Guichon teaches the best and brightest young pastry chefs techniques they've only thought about in their dreams.

This is a fun show. The artistic precision Guichon teaches is almost magical (imo).

We all know Amaury Guichon is very talented, as he work speaks for itself. But would he be a good host and judge, and would the show itself be compelling? For me the answer is Yes to both. The show, like the British Bakeoff, stresses friendly competition. The contestants (so far) just want to do their best and there isn't any cutthroat style activity. Likewise, Amaury stresses teaching over cruelty. Mistakes happen and we should learn from them. Amaury's teaching background shows and he wants everyone to learn, grow, and do their best. His critiques are honest and direct, but never cruel or badgering. The honesty may sting, but it's the kind of honesty people need to hear.

The Trailer said the cash price was $100.000 but when it came to the finally they won only $50.000.

What's up with that?

Otherwise really good show, very nicely paced, good cliffhangers, amazing creations!

Just to point out... the clay scene is from the movie 'Ghost' not 'Dirty Dancing', yet Patrick Swayze featured in both films. Good show overall. Watched it in one day!

I love Amaury Guichon's work and I follow him on instagram - amazing artist, so I really enjoyed the show. However, the same counts for most reality-shows like these on Netfix - why is there always 1 black person and they are the worst at what they do?? The way these shows are cast its always deliberate. So you mean to tell me that you cannot find a pastry chef of colour that can make a proper chocolate illusion?

But it was a delight to watch. I loved that this is first show host who actually didn't watch them struggle at points but gave them tips.

I like that the contestants stay until the very end and there are demos in the episodes by Amaury.

Unfortunately, I fast forwarded a lot of episodes because the drama was cringeworthy. I was excited to watch the show to learn. I wanted to like the contestants, but there was too much on the drama and structure of the show that makes backstabbing possible.

Amaury is talented but could use to relax a bit more. The the scenery reminds me of an episode of csi Miami. It just always feels intense and awkward. The two hosts they've added don't really have a voice, and they don't make the contestants or the audience more comfortable.

Finally, I don't agree with the last episode and how prize is given out. It was a team effort and yet one one person wins, given that they were solo for just the final hour? Don't make a show if you can't afford to compensate the entire team.

Very good host; professional and really teaching without finding himself too important. Great to have a new concept where people learn and develop without leaving after every episode. Melissa is a terrible person! I hope that she will develop herself too.
