I felt there were too many songs and not enough story. It seemed that they sang a song at every turn instead of giving some depth to the overall story. It did have some nice parts in it. I feel that it could be good for someone that does not watch the show and hasn't seen some of the old cast members again. It was not as magical as an experience because we have watched the show. My kids lost interest and left me alone to watch it. I think that cutting out maybe half of the songs would have been better. They really like the show though, just the movie didn't cut it. Maybe they will do it again sometime.
My entire family and I have been watching this movie non-stop. Its super magical and cute we LOVED all the music! Please make more movies! I know there might be a bunch of millennials (I'm a millennial too, listen to meeee) watching this thinking they should understand it but guys, this is a children's movie, it's for the kids of this current generation so the plot might seem "dumb" and all over the place but its not, and it goes PERFECTLY with the current show. So if you're an adult you might not understand it but if you and your kids love Blues Clues and you💙 then they will absolutely Love this movie.
We can remember watching Blue's Clues that ran from 1996 to 2020 back when we were little and enjoying it for the characters, songs, and locations. Now, we have the reboot series Blue's Clues & You that started recently, which is what this movie is based on.
Blue's Big City Adventure (2022) is clearly aimed at little kids who watched the old show and the new show, but I can see fans of Blue's Clues liking this movie. This movie has a nostalgic feel to it, bringing back memories of the old show with callbacks and the return of some characters.
The host of Blue's Clues & You Josh in this movie is doing the best he can acting happy and excited all the time and pretending this animated dog named Blue is there with him like in the show. The well-known dog named Blue is cute and clearly CG when she is moving around and being picked up, but kids will like seeing her, so it is not an issue.
The way the storybook world and New York City are connected was interesting world building and use of magic, making ask questions. The songs were fine, and the dance choreography is good when going around a real location like New York City, along with the two original hosts Steve and Joe showing up to help, which will be satisfying to fans of the show.
Kids will like this movie even if they have not seen the show, but I can see fans of either the old show Blue's Clues or the new show Blue's Clues & You will like this movie. It has a simple plot and likable characters to make this a simple enjoyable time.

My kids grew up on Blue's Clues. We still watch the Christmas specials each year. We love Steve & Joe. It was so good to see them again. But the premise of the show, coming to a "real" NYC just didn't work for any of us (my kids range from 9 to 22). We feel that if they would've been in a fictional place, it would have worked better. That's what made the original so magical. We loved the cameos, but there could have been more. It was good to see Steve & Joe, but the storyline, even for kids, didn't work. We didn't understand the idea of talking to real objects then turning into cartoons. Maybe Josh can go to Broadway and Steve can come home.
Blue's Big City Adventure had a lot of spunk, heart, and musical numbers. The kids loved seeing the storybook land, Steve & Joe, Josh's voice, and the songs. My oldest son rated this a 9/10, as an adult I would have rated it a 5 (watchable once).
The movie lacked plot, continuity, and sense most of the time. There's a night dancing scene right after he gets to New York (but it's day time with a same-day audition). Did not see the point in Josh talking to inanimate objects and them coming alive throughout the film- all it did was distract him from getting where he needed to go. Loved how all the main characters were willing to help one another but the "mystery" and "solution" of finding Josh didn't make sense (and didn't work). The "Blue's Clues" didn't help Josh find where he needed to go. A sad moment had my sensitive kid in tears (that was the only complaint he had for the movie was he didn't want to watch the sad part ever again). I disliked the phrasing of "this was Josh's only chance" for him to follow his dream- life isn't just the pursuit of one dream and a win-or-lose scenario! Even the cab driver told him it's the journey and he was still making it an all-or-nothing moment at the audition.
The overall themes of following your dreams, every day is a gift, & supporting your family (and family can be the ones you choose) were nice but personally felt so over-the-top that they weren't sincere.
There were several nostalgic moments for the older generations. Overall I just wish the story line was better. The actors have great chemistry & passion. I know this is a children's movie but it had the potential to be really special for multi-generations.
Side note: the camera shots, angles, and movements were obnoxious. Lots of jump cuts/sideways shots which got annoying. There were a few unique shots that didn't make me nauseous.
