Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez met and fell in love on the set of this film, eventually getting engaged and marrying in 2013.

While filming, Halle Berry was able to touch a great white shark in the wild while leaning over in a boat. She spent some time studying for several weeks with a shark whisperer who had decades of experience to prepare for the role.

The film had a reported $25 million budget, and eventually grossed less than $500,000 at the box office.

Director John Stockwell says the sharks in this movie were much more skittish and lethal, as compared to the tame ones he had while filming Azul extremo (2005).

Halle Berry's biggest weakness during filming was that she would get seasick a lot, which she was able to overcome.
