Summer Shadows is an enchanting ghost anime that takes place in a picturesque coastal town during the sweltering summer months. The story follows a group of high school friends, led by the shy and reserved protagonist, Hiroki, as they embark on an unforgettable adventure that intertwines friendship, love, and supernatural mysteries.
Animation and Art (9/10): The animation quality of Summer Shadows is top-notch, showcasing vibrant colors that perfectly capture the essence of summer. The coastal landscapes and atmospheric ghostly scenes are beautifully rendered, immersing the audience in a world where the line between the living and the dead is blurred. The character designs are expressive and evoke a nostalgic charm, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
Plot and Pacing (8/10): The plot centers around the discovery of an old, abandoned mansion rumored to be haunted by the vengeful spirit of a tragic love story from the past. As the group of friends starts investigating the mysteries surrounding the mansion, they find themselves entangled in a web of chilling encounters and paranormal activities. The pacing is well-balanced, keeping viewers engaged while allowing sufficient time for character development and backstory revelations.
Characters (8/10): The characters in Summer Shadows are relatable and endearing, each bringing their unique traits to the story. Hiroki's transformation from a timid introvert to a brave leader is one of the highlights, as he becomes the linchpin for the group's unity and determination. The romantic tension between him and the charismatic and outgoing Kaori adds depth to the plot, creating emotional moments that resonate with the audience.
Sound and Music (8/10): The anime's soundtrack complements the narrative wonderfully, with a mix of haunting melodies and catchy summer tunes. The sound effects during ghostly encounters effectively heighten the eerie atmosphere, sending shivers down viewers' spines. Additionally, the voice acting is commendable, conveying the emotions of the characters convincingly.
Themes and Messages (8/10): At its core, Summer Shadows is about friendship, love, and overcoming fears. The anime explores the theme of letting go of the past and learning to cherish the present. As the characters confront their fears and regrets, they develop a profound appreciation for life and the connections they share. The ghostly encounters serve as a metaphor for the emotional baggage that can haunt individuals, emphasizing the importance of facing one's inner demons.
Overall, Summer Shadows is a captivating ghost anime that successfully blends supernatural elements with heartfelt human drama. It will undoubtedly appeal to fans of both the supernatural and slice-of-life genres. Though it might not push the boundaries of its genre, the well-executed animation, compelling characters, and poignant themes make it a must-watch for any anime enthusiast, especially during the summer season.

I love this anime
This was one of my favorite experience.
Good story and really emotional.
How come this movie has a score of 7? This movie was great, it doesn't deserve it.

This anime was so relatable and not going to lie it did really open up some feelings from before because i did think that life was meaningless and death was the reason I was living because life did feel like a chore but as the anime progressed it showed how I also made that same progress of finding happiness again and that's why this anime is truly fabulous for putting the words that we sometimes can't express into reality. So low-key this is a comfort anime and would recommend for people who are going through the hard part of life because it shows that you have come a long way surviving despite not knowing that it will be worth it or not but it does worth it , nothing was in vain.
Tha movie had great potential. The story line was lovely and it was a real tear jerker. However, there was too much content to be simply covered in 40 minutes. An anime adaptation or a 2 hour long movie would have been fitting. The art is marvellous and pleasing to the eye. The voice acting is decent. But the movie didn't do the story justice. It felt- rushed. We didn't get to familiarise ourself with the characters and we didn't get to see their story properly. We didn't get to see the characters develop their friendship and there werent many scenes to show that they were friends. The backstory of each and every character was rushed. There are certain story telling styles in which the story is told in an ambiguous manner to make the viewer decipher the story themself. The story telling was similiar, but it felt rushed even then. They were put together poorly. This could have been better if the characters had more to them. The simplicity simply made the movie mid. It could have been amazing, but it wasn't up to the mark. The movie left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied. All in all, it was a good movie with a deep and amazing story but poor story telling. Give it a watch.
Summer Ghost doesn't really discover anything new about the story it's telling, we've seen it endless times in all media and the whole thing can be read like a book form the first scenes. Nonetheless, this densely packed 40 minutes long movie still managed to grasp my heart more than once. Definitely recommended.
