I downloaded this not knowing that it was a comedy drama which is a genre I particularly dislike. I lasted for about 15 minutes before switching off and deleting.
I'm sure this is something that appeals to a lot of people but that audience does not include me. In any case, I found the humour leaden and the situations ludicrous.
When I realised there was going to be a screechy, precocious brat involved in the series that was my cue to get out.
The filming locations looked interesting but the situations portrayed did not. I've seen so many good Flemish series in the past which is why I got this one. I should have done due diligence first to save my bandwidth.

It's my first time watching an entire Flemish language Belgian series .
This is a light comedy police series: very refreshing !
Storyline is excellent.
Casting is really wonderful. The actors playing the various characters are simply brilliant and funny ! Great variety of characters.
This small, local police station, headed by the first woman ever in charge, investigate a range of murders and other very unusual occurrences.
I particularly enjoyed how good the screenplay is !
The humour is dark yet very funny at times.
Actress playing the chief is so funny.... the way she looks at people after they say something is so funny.

I didn't know what to expect when my husband and I started watching Chantal on a whim on MGHz streaming. It is a fun and original show, where a smart woman steadily marches to her goal without letting herself be distracted, and where even the nasty idiots (neighbors, colleagues, ex-lovers) will get to show redeeming qualities, so we viewers can relish all these characters, warts and all.
These Belgian actors are fabulously efficient in their delivery and dead pan humour. We love the intonations of their flemish language (we watch the show reading the English subtitles) and we enjoy this comic window into a very provincial world of police work.
Detective Chantal is a sharp cookie under the guise of a country bumpkin. Her brand of feminism is discreet and gentle, but incisive when needed. Patience, kindness and wits. A great comedy without pretension.

/refers to Season 1/
Chantal is a fun and surprising Flemish police comedy-drama that quietly draws you in with smart writing and a strong atmosphere. At first, the show seems like a simple small-town crime story, but as you keep watching, you notice how clever it really is. The main character, Chantal, is a country woman who becomes the first female chief at a local police station. She seems calm and humble, but she's actually very sharp and thoughtful. She gets things done with patience and quiet strength, never losing her cool or focus.
The humour in Chantal is dry and subtle. The cast is full of unique characters-like annoying coworkers, gossiping neighbours, and clueless ex-husbands-who are all funny and strangely lovable. Even the most frustrating people get their moments to shine, showing that everyone has some good in them.
The show is in Flemish, and watching it with English subtitles gives it a special charm. The way the characters speak adds to the humour and gives the show a unique feel. The writing is clever and balanced, mixing dark comedy with touching moments.
Chantal is a great choice if you're tired of flashy crime shows and want something more down-to-earth. It doesn't try too hard to impress-it just tells a smart, funny, and warm story with great acting and a real sense of place.
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys character-driven stories with quiet humor and heart.
