NBC has moved up the premiere date of the upcoming crime drama, TVLine has learned: It’ll now debut this Sunday, Jan. 19 at 7/6c on NBC, following the NFL divisional playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the winner of tonight’s Vikings-Rams game. An encore episode will air Monday, Feb. 3 at 10 pm, the show’s original premiere time slot, with new episodes following Mondays at 10 pm after that.

NBC has given a series order to “The Hunting Party,” a high-concept crime procedural from JJ Bailey and Jake Coburn, with both serving as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners.

Created by Bailey, who also wrote the pilot script, “The Hunting Party” follows a small team of investigators who work together to track down and capture the most dangerous killers the country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.

Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the series, which isn’t surprising as Bailey has an overall deal there while Coburn has a first-look deal.

The order for “The Hunting Party” comes as NBC has already ordered three other pilots for next season, including “Suits: LA,” an untitled Reba McEntire-led comedy and more recently, a pilot for “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” from Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs.

NBC is siccing The Hunting Party on some VIP prison escapees.

The network announced on Tuesday that it has given a series order to The Hunting Party, a new procedural created by JJ Bailey, who will serve as co-showrunner alongside Jake Coburn (co-creator of NBC’s The Endgame).

Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, running unopposed, has been elected president of the WGA East. Cullen, who until now had been VP of the guild’s Film/TV/Streaming sector, succeeds Michael Winship, who chose not to seek re-election.

In the WGA East’s other officer elections, two other candidates also ran unopposed. Chris Kyle was re-elected secretary-treasurer, and Erica Saleh, a member of the guild’s Council, will be the next VP of Film/TV/Streaming – the post previously held by Cullen.

Votes were cast by 13.3% of total eligible voters for president and secretary-treasurer.

In the guild’s other races, six Council members representing the Film/TV/Streaming sector also elected: Sofia Alvarez, incumbent Josh Gondelman, incumbent Liz Hynes, incumbent Greg Iwinski, Sarah Montana, and incumbent Sasha Stewart.

Winship said in a statement today that his decision not to run again “was made right from the start two years ago when I was asked to return to the presidency. Despite having already served five terms as president, from 2007-2017, I agreed to run again in 2021 to help work out issues the guild was facing in terms of constitutional revisions and other membership concerns, but I did say then that it only would be for two years.”

Striking writers in New York made a bid on Monday to disrupt work on American Horror Story by picketing outside a production facility in Queens where the popular FX series known for its macabre plot lines and star-studded casts is filming season 12.

Exclusive: NBC has commissioned writers rooms for two hourlong projects, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, from Good Girls creator Jenna Bans and her frequent collaborator, former Good Girls executive producer Bill Krebs, as well as The Hunting Party, a high-concept crime procedural from JJ Bailey and The Endgame co-creator Jake Coburn. Universal Television, where Bans, Krebs and Bailey are under overall deals and Coburn has a first-look deal, is the studio on both.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society, which had a put pilot commitment, was one of two sales at NBC this development season for Bans and Krebs through Universal TV. Their other script, Murder By the Book, with Good Girls‘ Retta attached to star, was picked up to pilot. It also originally had a put pilot commitment.

NBC has split its drama slate between the two models, with two pilots, Murder By the Book and Wolf, and two writers rooms for a straight-to-series consideration.

IFC has dropped the trailer and art for its upcoming comedy “Paint,” and leading man Owen Wilson goes full-on Bob Ross mode in it.

The film stars Wilson as Carl Nagyl, Vermont’s top TV painter who has everything going for him, from a fanbase to a van and even a perm, until a younger artist takes his spotlight. Nagyl is reminiscent of beloved TV icon Bob Ross, who led PBS’ instructional TV program “The Joy of Painting” from 1983 to 1994. He passed away in 1995 at 52 years old.

Wilson leads the film, having been previously featured in “Zoolander,” “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Bottle Rocket,” “Loki” and “The French Dispatch.” The actor also has the upcoming film “Haunted Mansion” on his docket with Jamie Lee Curtis, Jared Leto and Winona Ryder.

Joining the Oscar-nominated star, the “Paint” cast includes Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus, Stephen Root and newcomer Lucy Freyer.

Mean Girls‘ Jonathan Bennett guest stars on Fox’s Fantasy Island season two episode six. “Forever and a Day” will air on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 8pm Et/Pt.

Roselyn Sanchez leads the cast as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke played by Ricardo Montalban in the original ’70s series. Kiara Barnes (The Bold and the Beautiful) plays Ruby Akuda and John Gabriel Rodriguez (Rosewood) stars as Javier.

“Forever and a Day” Plot: Oliver’s fantasy is to surprise his boyfriend Emilio with the perfect proposal, but when Emilio says no, Oliver finds himself reliving that day over and over again. Meanwhile, Roarke, also caught in the time loop, must confront her fears about her relationship with Javier.

The “Goosebumps” live-action series at Disney+ has added three more cast members.

Variety has learned exclusively that Ana Yi Puig, Miles McKenna, and Will Price have joined the show as series regulars alongside previously announced cast member Justin Long.

Per the official logline, “The series follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together — thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries and pasts with each other — in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.” According to Disney Branded Television, the series is influenced by five of the most popular “Goosebumps” books.

Puig has been cast as Isabella. She is described as “smart and naturally shy with an overwhelming sense of responsibility.” McKenna will play James, “the class clown who loves the spotlight and hails from one of the wealthiest families in Port Lawrence.

Comedy writers Emman Sadorra and Ida Yazdi and drama writers Hernán Barangan, Aurora Ferlin, Amelia Swedeen, Varta Torossian, Tommar Wilson and William Yu have been selected for the 2022-23 class of the NBC TV Writers Program.

The program, formerly known as Writers on the Verge, was created in 2005 to prepare diverse, emerging writers for careers in television, The program is hosted by NBCU Launch , the umbrella brand that houses the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across NBCU’s television portfolio.

The 2022-23 class of eight was chosen out of 2,100 applicants.

Over the next eight months, the new class will develop an original pilot under the guidance of NBCUniversal programming executives. They will also participate in weekly workshops that will include writing intensives, mock showrunner meetings and personal branding sessions. Exclusive: Drama writer-producer JJ Bailey is expanding his relationship with Universal Television. Bailey has signed an exclusive overall deal with the studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, to develop and produce projects across all platforms. He has set his first project under the deal, The Hunting Party, a high-concept crime procedural which he is developing with The Endgame co-creator Jake Coburn for NBC.

Written by Bailey, The Hunting Party revolves around a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.

Exclusive: Andrew Dice Clay (Pam & Tommy) and Jordan Johnson-Hinds (The Endgame) will star in the Quiver-acquired basketball drama Warrior Strong from director Shane Belcourt (Red Rover), which has entered production in Northern Ontario, Canada.

The film written by Dan Gordon (Wyatt Earp) centers on basketball protege and egocentric Bilal Irving (Johnson-Hinds), who is asked to be the assistant coach of his former high school team, the Dumont Warriors, alongside Coach Avery Schmidt (Clay). Bilal subsequently learns that true coaching involves far more than simply teaching the game. The question is, will this rag-tag team of misfits have what it takes to put aside their differences and become Warrior Strong?

Nicholas Tabarrok and Leah Jaunzems are producing for Darius Films, with Quiver’s Berry Meyerowitz, Jeff Sackman and Larry Greenberg serving as exec producers. Quiver holds worldwide rights to the film and will be introducing it for sale at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.

Julie Plec is ramping up her development slate and has put a slew of projects into the pipeline including an adaptation of YA novel Running Out of Time at Peacock.

It comes after a number of shows from The Vampire Diaries co-creator were axed earlier this spring including Legacies, Roswell, New Mexico and The Endgame.

Plec and her production banner My So-Called Company signed a mega-multi-year overall deal with Universal Television in 2020. She said that when she signed that deal she told the studio that she believes in “earning my keep” and added that “this slate reflects that promise”.

The first project set is Clifton, based on Margaret Peterson Haddix’s Running Out of Time. Julie Plec, in the wake of the surprising Legacies cancellation, is putting her energy into a sprawling development slate for Universal Television.

The prolific showrunner, who already has Vampire Academy due in September on Peacock, has unveiled five new scripted shows in development at the studio where her My So-Called Company has been based since mid-2020.

The five shows are: Clifton, based on the book Running Out of Time and set up at Peacock; medical drama Douglass Medical; thriller Freeman; romantic dramedy about a transgender teen Stay Gold; and This Savage Song, the horror fantasy that is based on the novel of the same name. Exclusive: Aadrita Mukerji, a writer on The Endgame and Reacher, has struck an overall deal with Universal Television.

Mukerji, who will write, develop and produce projects across all platforms for the Usg studio, has already signed up to her first job as part of the pact – she will join NBC’s reboot of Quantum Leap as a co-exec producer.

Mukerji is a film and television writer originally from Kolkata, India. She got her start as a writer on the CBS television series Scorpion before becoming an executive story editor of Supergirl. She recently worked as a supervising producer on Universal Television’s The Endgame for NBC and a producer on Amazon’s Reacher. She has also developed with Skydance Media and CBS.

She will join Universal Television’s Quantum Leap, which premieres on NBC on September 19.

The series, a reboot of the classic 1990s sci-fi drama, stars Raymond Lee. It takes place 30 years since Dr.

NBC is the fourth broadcast network to firm up its plans for the fall.

We already knew which nights and times the shows would be airing, but we didn't know when the ball would be rolling.

Monday, September 19, marks the return of The Voice (check out the revamped cast).

The reality series will lead into the premiere of the Quantum Leap, giving the reboot a strong launching pad.

Tuesday, September 20, features the timeslot debut of The Voice, which will air a two-hour installment that night, leading into the final season premiere of New Amsterdam.

One week later, La Brea returns for its second season in the 9 p.m. slot when The Voice scales back to one hour on Tuesdays.

Wednesday, September 21, will mark the returns of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D.

The next night features the premieres of Law & Order, Svu, and Organized Crime.

No one would argue that broadcast TV is booming in 2022, but on a show by show basis, things don’t look quite as bleak as they did a year ago.

Whereas in 2020-21, only one network series — The CW’s All American — grew both its total audience and adults 18-49 rating, several shows managed the feat in the 2021-22 season, according to Nielsen’s final seven-day ratings for the season. The gainers were led by the top two shows on TV, NBC’s Sunday Night Football (18 million viewers, 5.0 rating in 18-49) and Fox’s Thursday Night Football (15.4 million, 4.3), which posted decent improvements in both measures.

The Monday edition of American Idol (6.99 million viewers, 1.0 in 18-49) and several other sports franchises, including ABC’s Saturday college football and NBA showcases, also had gains in both viewers and the key ad demographic. NBC’s Law...
