Never seen one as big as that before

So I have to say I love spoof documentaries & when they're done well they're brilliant

We have a history of making good ones in the UK , The office being a great case in point & the American version actually was better in some ways & ran for 9 seasons .

Then there's the wedding ones like Confetti & Wedding video which were both great .

And from the other side of the pond there's best in show which was excellent

And the king of kings playing to an audience on both sides is Spinal Tap & it's comic strip copycat The bad news tour.

And Borat & all his other characters deserves a mention & the brilliant Rutles all you need is cash.

And finally Mike Bassett England manager

All were great sadly Swede Caroline wasn't . It a few laughs & a great musical score including the original version by the poet John Cooper Clarke of the Artic Monkeys I wanna be yours

But it failed on the whole for what it ought have been and that was funny

It had some comedy , Richard Lumsden stood out for comedy as Paul & Celyn Jones as Willy was the stand out actor , though Jo Hartley put in great performance as Caroline

It was ok , it just wasn't great , watch BEST IN SHOW and you'll see what I mean & I had hoped it would be as good

You might enjoy it more than me , for me it never really got in to top gear but the second half was better than the first as soon as they got to Willy's mother's house it went up a gear

Average

Pad. A 5/10.

No one laughed!

Swede Caroline is the world's biggest turnip!

It is a very amateurish affair just a cut above fart jokes. And no one in the audience laughed beyond a mild chuckle, which were few and far between.

The hightlight of the movie was the John Cooper Clark track towards the end of film, which was cleverly written and delivered, and it garnered the most laughs from the audience. The rest of the soundtrack was good too.

In part, I grew up on a working farm and had my own allotment for many years, and I've had better laughs digging in the drenching rain on a Sunday afternoon.

Part of the draw to see watch this steaming heap of compost was the cast, but they were severely restricted by their poorly defined characters and poor script.

Amateurish and Profoundly Unfunny

I had hoped for a relaxing, undemanding and quintessentially British spoof. What a disappointment. The script was devoid of real belly laughs, raising at best a few stifled grunts from the audience ( which could have been snores, because I found my own eyelids drooping at times). And I may be out of fashion these days, but using the word 'fu***ing' so often doesn't actually make the script any funnier, as the shock factor has long lost its effect.

But the really damning verdict is the script's unremitting amateurishness. It is what one might expect from second-year students on a drama degree course at one of the UK's lesser known universities.

Could be better

Nowhere near as funny as I expected it to be. It could have been better especially with some of the cast in the film Another thing that annoyed me, in the credits they give the exit song credit to Dan Baboulene. The Marrow song ( Oh what a beauty) was sung by Adge Cutler and the Wurzels back in the late 60s/early 70s. Its on some of their albums. Including Adge Cutler and the Wurzels "Cutler of the West" album which was released in 2003 on CD but originally released on vinyl in 1968. In fact this particular song was written in 1952 by Edrich Siebert. So it should not have been credited as original music by Dan Baboulene As you can tell I am a Wurzels fan.

Brilliantly funny

Had me laughing from start to finish! The satirical nature of this film sets it apart from current movie releases. Fairly unassuming, this film will catch of guard with it's ability to find humour in the mundane.

What starts off a typical mockumentary, quickly decends into rabbit hole of comedic mystery which will keep you guessing throughout!

The score to the film is fantastic with the songs mirroring what you would imagine caroline (the main character) enjoying herself.

With songs ranging from the poem, I want be yours by John Cooper Clark, to the inevitable Sweet Caroline by neil Diamond it gives the feeling of and everyday working man's Spotify playlist.

If you haven't seen this before it's definitely a must watch!!

funny!

In all the years I've been married to my wife, I've never once seen her laugh!

Sure, she didn't laugh at this film either. But I sure did!

My wife is a straight up drip to be honest. There were moments in this film that any normal person would absolutely piss their pants. Like literally hilarious moments... not my wife though.

To be honest, we've been together so long now that we've just slipped into the drudgery of everyday life. I know it's gonna take more than one film about big massive vegetables to break us out of that, but at least it gave me something to smile about.

So if you need something to lift your spirits and take your mind off your miserable, miserable life, this is the film for you!

Funniest film I've seen in a long long time

What an absolutley spectacular film. Had me in stitches from start to finish, the cast was phenomenal.

At the heart of the film is the incredible Caroline, whose portrayal of the titular character is nothing short of captivating. She brings a vulnerability, wit, and relatability to the role, making her journey feel authentic and deeply moving. Whether she's navigating the complexities of modern relationships or finding her own path in the competitive big vegetable world, her performance draws you in, making you care deeply about her story.

Swede Caroline is a true celebration of love, self-discovery, and the power of human connection. It's a film that will leave you smiling, thinking, and absolutely charmed. Don't miss this beautifully crafted piece of cinema that is both heartwarming and thoroughly enjoyable.

When's Swede Caroline 2 coming out?!?!

How be on, gurt lush film that, full of proper big vegetables and that

"Swede Caroline" is an absolute riot of a mockumentary that had me chuckling from start to finish! Filmed right here in Somerset, it captures the quirky spirit of our local giant vegetable growing competitions with a perfect blend of humour and heart. The film is a witty nod to our community's unique hobby, making it not only hilarious but also wonderfully relatable.

As someone who's witnessed the competitive spirit of vegetable growing firsthand, "Swede Caroline" feels like a love letter to our local traditions. It's smart, it's funny, and it captures the essence of Somerset life with a cheeky twinkle in its eye. Whether you're a local or just in for a good laugh, this film is a must-see for its heartwarming and rib-tickling portrayal of one of our most cherished pastimes and somewhat 'mystical' pastures.

A Brilliantly Comedic Mockumentary

Swede Caroline is a brilliantly crafted mockumentary ( a genre that has been lacking in new and original films as of recently). The film blends charm with.sharp humor to create a comedic yet endearing film. As absurd as the concept of a missing giant vegetable is the film knows how to balance its absurdist nature with truly heartfelt moments. The actors did an impeccable job and there comedic timing was spot on. There might be nothing better than a movie that is simultaneously able to provide you with laugh while also keeping you enthralled in the characters and mystery at play. A film that I believe will turn into a cult-classic in the years to come and will hopefully get the recognition and appreciation it so well deserves.

Original Parsnip Material

I went into Swede Caroline not knowing exactly what to expect, and I was completely blown away. This film is an absolute gem! It's the perfect blend of British humor and originality.

Jo Hartley is brilliant as Caroline and instantly lovable. There is brilliant comedy throughout with just the right amount of absurdity - which you can expect from writer/director - Brook Driver. The story of a giant vegetable-growing competition might sound niche, but trust me, it's gold. The mockumentary style works perfectly, pulling you into the small-town drama in the most hilarious way.

What I loved most is how, even though the film is pretty bonkers, it still has real heart. The writing is sharp and there are lots of laugh out loud moments.

So charming, so funny

I loved this movie! Everyone in the theatre I was in was absolutely loving it. The jokes all hit and it was so funny to see a slice of life of this part of England! I think it will get even funnier on a second watch. I love the British mockumentary style and Swede totally nailed it. Jo Hartley is magnetic on screen and her character Caroline leads the excellent and hilarious ensemble of actors with ease. I will be recommending Swede Caroline to friends to watch! Richard Lumsden and Celyn Jones play such earnest characters amongst the silliness and you really do root for this motley crew. I am looking forward to watching it again.

Hilarious and hearfelt

A comedy gem - wonderfully absurd!

Swede Caroline is a hilarious mockumentary that feels both fresh and quintessentially British, following a community obsessed with competitive vegetable growing.

Jo Hartley is brilliant as the lead, bringing charm and authenticity to her role as Caroline, making you root for her from start to finish. Every supporting character is more delightfully odd than the last, creating a world that feels at once completely ridiculous but also entirely relatable.

The mockumentary format is used perfectly to capture the small-town rivalries, personal ambitions and hilarious character quirks throughout. The brilliant writing and clever dialogue, delivered with pitch-perfect timing makes this a real joy to watch.

A must-watch for anyone who loves a smart, character-driven comedy. It's a story with a lot of heart, all wrapped up in a world of giant vegetables. Proving that the best comedies are homegrown!

A triumph!

Such a funny movie - one of the best mockumentaries that has come from England in a long time. Would highly recommend watching it!

The movie explores the bizarre world of competitive veg growing - full of interesting and hilarious characters. The writing is so clever and humorous which makes it a joy to watch.

The film shines thanks to its witty script and endearing performances. Jo Hartley's portrayal of Caroline is a standout, blending innocence and determination in a way that makes her both relatable and utterly lovable.

It's quirky, original, and filled with laughs, making it a standout in the comedy genre. Whether you're a fan of British humor or just looking for a film that will make you smile, "Swede Caroline" is sure to deliver.

Review from a West Country local...

Spot on and relatable, throughly enjoyable.

The film captures the essence of the English countryside and its intricate small time politics perfectly.

The characters are all people you'd expect to see. If you want an insight into life in the English West Country, albeit with a comedic spin, this is a great watch and useful insight.

It's always refreshing to watch a film that doesn't follow the stereotypical storytelling template of mainstream cinema.

The performance of Jo Hartley is also worth noting, and something that I was particularly impressed with. Of course a fantastic actor, but she impressed beyond my expectations.

A Raw British comedy. very funny and a great sound track.

Swede Caroline is a raw and refreshingly funny British comedy that doesn't hold back. It tells the story of Caroline navigating a whirlwind of unpredictable events, mixing moments of chaos with humor that feels effortless. The comedy isn't overworked-it's natural and flows perfectly with the situations Caroline faces. One of the film's standout features is its soundtrack-it's that good. Watch it with Shazam ready, I would. The songs perfectly match the energy of the film's wild, unpredictable ride...

Swede Caroline is a real gem worth watching.

I need to right a few more words to pass the minimum required.

thats a good movie.

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet find ourselves sitting comfortably behind pens and screens, passing judgment on the efforts of storytellers. Comedy, perhaps more than any other form of art, faces a peculiar burden-it thrives on timing, nuance, and wit, yet it risks everything with a single punchline. Success is loud. Failure is deafening.

But there are moments when comedy transcends its basic obligation to make us laugh and instead delivers something unexpected: heart. Last night, I watched Swede Caroline, a seemingly quirky British comedy that did far more than play for laughs. It offered vulnerability disguised as absurdity, depth hidden within simplicity, and a surprisingly poignant message about identity, belonging, and the chaotic dance of fate.

At first glance, Swede Caroline feels like classic British humor: dry wit, situational chaos, and characters who should be too ridiculous to believe-yet aren't. But beneath its whimsical surface lies something deeper. The series challenged my understanding of comedic storytelling by demonstrating that jokes land hardest when their foundation is truth.

Not every comedy can transcend humor and offer something more, but a truly great one can emerge from the most unexpected places. With Swede Caroline, British cinema may have found something remarkable. It is, in this critic's opinion, one of the most charming and sincere comedies I've seen in recent years.

I will be returning to it soon, eager to laugh-and maybe reflect-once again.

Hilarious and brilliantly ridiculous

A fantastic example of British humour. Eccentric, absurd and extremely funny. The acting and direction is top draw. It's engaging the whole way through. Although it's absurd it actually is conceivable that this could happen in the uk which makes it even funnier. It keeps you on the edge of your seat but is also extremely watchable, which is a lovely combination. Unlike it a lot of modern films it has a clear story line totally holds your attention. It is a simply a delightful British comedy that keeps you guessing and laughing. It's like Wallace and gromit had a baby with the office. Loved it!

A Comedy Worth its Weight in Vegetables

Swede Caroline is a perfect example of British comedy at its finest! The writing is extraordinarily sharp - Brook Driver has crafted a script that manages to find humour in the most unexpected places whilst never losing its heart.

Jo Hartley is absolutely magnetic as Caroline. She brings such warmth and authenticity to the role that you find yourself completely invested in her quest for vegetable glory. Her comedic timing is spot-on, delivering every line with perfect precision, but it's the vulnerability she brings to quieter moments that really makes the character shine.

The soundtrack deserves special mention - it brilliantly underscores both the film's more absurd moments and its emotional core, elevating scenes in unexpected ways. Combined with Jo Hartley's performance and the razor-sharp writing, it creates something really special.

The film had me in stitches from start to finish, proving that sometimes the most brilliant comedy comes from the most unlikely places. A truly remarkable debut that shows Brook Driver is a talent to watch.

Brilliant

Death! Murder!! And giant vegetables lol... So so so good... It's like the UK Office and Andy Samberg's Hot Rod had a baby.

I laughed so hard, a very quotable film, if you like UK comedy's like Hot Fuss you will definitely fine this very entertaining. Such a good ridiculous cast and story. That actually has some truth! They actually have these contests!

I loved every minute and so incredible what they have done on such a small budget. Indie UK comedy features are dying out so let's keep em alive and download this film!

So impressed with this feature. My fav film last year, bringing to life some of my fav characters.

A Triumph for Turnips

Very much enjoyed this movie. Swede manages to capture the gossipy world of the West-Country perfectly and in a hilarious plot.

Star performances from the lead Jo Hartley and Celyn Jones. Alongside much of the cast, they encapsulate the essence of what it's like to be from the West-Country. From the shady dealings, to the down-right absurdness of not-so-quaint country-life, Swede has a bit in here for everyone to enjoy. I'm looking forward to watching again when I'm in need of some Somerset nostalgia.

Swede Caroline is a rare gem that will have you laughing throughout. Bring on Swede 2 please!

Buy it. Watch it.

My humble thanks to all involved in the creation of this absolute gem.

I'd encourage anyone with an unfavourable view of this film to watch it again.

In years to come, when they're using this as an example to teach aspiring film makers how it should be done, all being well, you're not still one of those on the sidelines, puzzled.

If you are, that's okay I guess.

The 10 stars is not an indication of perfection, rather, its an acknowledgement of the pure joy and breath of fresh air this film provides.

As much as pleasure to listen to on a commute as it is to watch.

"How has she done that?"
