Emily Blunt Jokes About Her “Beef” With Meryl Streep As Their Legendary Onscreen Rivalry Heats Up Again In Devil Wears Prada 2(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Meryl Streep never slips quietly into the background and when Emily Blunt is anywhere near her on a film set, sparks tend to follow. These two Hollywood A-listers are not strangers to playing characters locked in cold stares, veiled insults and sharp power plays. You would think that after three films together, maybe some warmth would show through, but no, it has been a running pattern, almost a cinematic ritual at this point.
Emily Blunt’s Surprising Reputation for Onscreen Feuds
Blunt, who often leans into the roles of quietly strong wives or whimsical heroines, does not strike most as someone eager for a feud. Yet, her name keeps circling the same orbit as Streep’s and not in the soft, fuzzy way fans usually hope for.

Years ago, talk show host Conan O’Brien traveled to Japan for one of his special international remote episodes that helped inspire his new series, Conan O’Brien Must Go. While in Japan, O’Brien checked out some of the unique local sights. One of the things he explored was a family rental service that the country provides to combat the national crisis of loneliness. His exploration into the topic was, of course, done in a very humorous way. Jake Schreier, the director behind Marvel’s recent film “Thunderbolts*,” is gearing up for a big job: bringing the “X-Men” back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Schreier has quietly built a strong reputation over the years, starting with smaller films like “Robot & Frank” and “Paper Towns.”
But it was his work on the Netflix show “Beef” that really put him on the map. There, he showed he can handle complex emotions and tension, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing. His focus has always been on characters who are struggling and on the edge, and that theme carries over into his work with Marvel.
“Thunderbolts*,” which recently became available to stream, is different from typical superhero team-ups. Instead of just big action scenes, it dives into the emotional struggles of its characters.
The team includes flawed heroes like Florence Pugh’s Yelena, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and Wyatt Russell’s U.

Jake Schreier is stepping into a big role with Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot. After directing Thunderbolts*, which recently came out on digital, Schreier is already thinking ahead about how to bring a new version of the mutant team to life. He spoke with The Playlist and shared a few thoughts, without giving away too much, of course.
Schreier isn’t new to storytelling with strong emotion. His earlier work includes indie films like Robot & Frank and Paper Towns, and more recently, he directed episodes of Beef on Netflix.
That show earned him an Emmy nomination and showed he knows how to handle characters with complex emotions. That same skill showed up in Thunderbolts*, a Marvel movie that didn’t just go for big action, but instead focused on its team of broken heroes struggling with their pasts.

Phase In
And just like that, we’re nearly two weeks into Phase 2. After the initial head-swirling buzz of Emmy nominations, the industry has been in that quiet in-between space where studios are working behind-the-scenes to wrangle their stars out of summer vacation plans to get them back on the campaign trail. Expect the plates to start spinning madly again next week with interviews, roundtables and FYC events quickly filling up the calendar.
The TV Academy itself is getting into the Phase 2 FYC space for the first time with the launch of Televerse, a three-day shindig scheduled for Aug. 14-16 and featuring officially sanctioned contender panels. The guidelines detail strict rules for these panels, though, including length of time (a hard out at 60 minutes), number of talent involved (eight plus a moderator), and location. Go anywhere else and you can’t bill yourself as such to Academy members, or invite them directly.

It’s official: Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is directing X-Men for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a recent roundtable attended by Collider’s Steve Weintraub for Fantastic Four, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed Schreier’s appointment, finally putting to rest months of speculation about who would take the reins of the MCU’s first mutant-led film.
“Yeah, it’s official. Jake Schreier is doing X-Men for us,” Feige said. “Very lucky, and we’re very, very lucky to have him, and very excited to have him. And so we're beginning. It’s all starting now. Script’s underway.” The script in question is being written by Michael Lesslie, whose recent credits include The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. No cast or plot details have been announced, but Feige did drop a major hint about the tone and focus of the reboot — one that longtime fans will no doubt appreciate.

The James Gunn that Mikaela Hoover met 17 years ago is still the same James Gunn she knows today.
In 2008, long before he became the writer-director of Superman and co-ceo of DC Studios, Gunn first auditioned Hoover for his web short Humanzee!. He was quickly won over by her performance, but her insistence on outdoing herself ingratiated herself to the filmmaker even more. Months later, he created another web short specifically for Hoover called Sparky & Mikaela, which chronicled the crime-fighting exploits of her low-rent superhero character and raccoon sidekick. (If the Guardians of the Galaxy roots weren’t already evident, Guardians actors Sean Gunn and Gregg Henry also show up.)
Hoover would go on to appear in Gunn’s second feature film, Super (2010), before working on five more Gunn-associated films. Her friendship with Gunn didn’t preclude her from auditioning, particularly when she landed an opportunity to read for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3...

Are we in store for more “Emmy sweepers?”
With more than 25,000 voting members, the Television Academy is made up of 31 peer groups, each representing a specific field of expertise — actors, writers, editors, and so on. Of the many categories, only 15 are voted on by the entire membership. These include outstanding comedy, drama, limited or anthology series, television movie, talk series, variety special (live and pre-recorded), short form, hosted nonfiction series, structured and unstructured reality, reality competition, scripted variety and game show.
Unlike the Oscars, which allow all eligible members to vote in the final round, the Emmys restrict both nomination and winner selection to designated peer groups. That exclusivity shapes the voting landscape — and it explains the rise of a modern phenomenon: the Emmy sweep.
Only once before 2020 had a series ever won all seven major categories: HBO’s “Angels in America” in 2004. Then came the Covid-era stunner: Pop TV’s “Schitt’s Creek,...

Ted Sarandos has always had an uncanny grasp of titles and stars, conjuring them in his pre-internet days as a video store clerk and dropping them frequently during his 25-year run at Netflix.
Even by those standards, however, the Co-CEO may have set a personal record on Thursday, machine-gunning out the names of no fewer than 37 series, films and events soon to stream Netflix. The spree during a 3-minute stretch of the company’s second-quarter earnings call coincided with the company disclosing viewership for thousands of series and movies in its semi-annual “data dump.”
Unlike other companies’ calls, Netflix’s are livestreamed on YouTube. (Watch a replay here.) Questions submitted by analysts are read by Spencer Wang, call moderator and VP of finance, investor relations and corporate development.

After last year’s Primetime Emmy broadcast that sported fresh blood in terms of marquee category winners with Hacks for Comedy Series, Shōgun for Drama Series and Baby Reindeer for Limited Series/Anthology, even down to the usually tired and predictable Reality Series lineup with newcomer Peacock’s hit The Traitors , this morning’s announcement of nominees for the 77th annual Primetime Emmys gives us hope for a repeat of no repeats in the major categories. That is something increasingly rare but perhaps is a new trend where voters actually aren’t doing the same old/same old that Emmys past, fairly or unfairly, were accused of.

With Severance dominating the Drama Series field with an impressive 27 nominations (wow) in its second season, doubling the haul of its first which debuted way back in 2022 (and only two crafts wins then), it looks like a front-runner for a triumph come September.

The 2025 Emmy nominations delivered meaningful gains in representation across race, gender and identity, with a few concerning declines.
A total of 94 actors were recognized in the main acting categories — lead, supporting and guest. Of those 24 are Poc, a decline from the past five years. In 2024, 30 were performers of color, making up 31% of the nominees, which was an increase from 2023 and 2021, though it fell short of the 2022 peak, when 42 of 108 nominees (39%) were people of color, the most in Emmys history. Look at the last decade of numbers to see how this year compares:

It’s been over two years since Brendan Fraser won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Whale. And while he has had supporting roles in films like Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Max Barbakow’s Brothers, he’s once again taking the marquee, as dramedy Family Rental has been announced for a November release via Searchlight Pictures.
In Family Rental – which was announced in November 2023 – Brendan Fraser plays a man hired by a rental family company, an actual service where people are given jobs as stand-ins for friends, family members, etc. – in Japan. It’s through this and his experiences along the way in which he learns far more about himself than he was expecting. With a November 21st release, Searchlight looks to be jockeying for another awards contender; with the themes at play, it also could make for a solid pre-Thanksgiving outing at the theater.

According to Daniel Richtman, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is in the works. No other details were included in the report, and, until further confirmation, it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, after McGregor has consistently expressed his desire to tell more stories featuring Obi-Wan, there may be some validity to the latest rumor. The first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi has an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while audience reviews garnered a lower 61% rating. It should be noted that the latter score was likely affected by review bombing,...

Season 4 of The Bear just dropped, and whew, Carmy might finally be learning that running a restaurant isn’t a solo sport (or a daily anxiety spiral). Sydney’s cooking up more than just potential, Ebra’s turning the takeout window into a one-man empire, and the guest stars are less “look who we booked!” and more “oh hey, that really works.”
Sure, the show’s still yelling, stressing, and moodily slicing herbs in silence, but at least it’s making progress. There’s still trauma, tension, and timers ticking, but The Bear might be inching toward a kitchen that runs on collaboration instead of Carmy’s emotional damage.
And if you’ve devoured this season like a perfectly toasted beef sandwich and still want more, more chaos, more found family, more characters barely holding it together, then congratulations, chef. These 15 TV shows are your next course. They’ve got the flavor,...

No one saw the popularity of Squid Game coming, but here we are. Thanks to the combination of betrayal, drama, and comedy, the high-stakes survival drama became a perfect binge for Netflix subscribers. It led to the reality show Squid Game: The Challenge, and now an English-speaking spinoff is being developed by director David Fincher (Fight Club and Se7en).
To be fair, we're still not sure if the spinoff will actually happen of it if will die before it sees the light of day. Also worth noting it that it's not a remake, but they're not looking to case English-speaking version of the characters we already met in the original. Instead, it will be a new story set elsewhere in the world, with a whole new crop of cash-strapped contestants drafted to participate in the deadly Squid Games in the hopes of walking away with the grand prize, even...

Jake Schreier knows it's exactly what fans are hoping for — but he’s not confirming anything just yet. At the Mediterrane Film Festival in Malta, the Thunderbolts* director took part in a panel — attended by Collider's Steve Weintraub — and he was asked whether he’d do anything differently with Marvel’s long-awaited X-Men reboot. Schreier kept it brief, if cryptic, adding that he was not confirmed to take on the job at this moment in time, despite fervent media speculation to the contrary. However, Schreier did concede that he would start the project from the ground up and focus on what made the X-Men so compelling from the very beginning — their characters.
“Even if I were confirmed on that movie, I don't think I would be allowed to answer that question. I guess what I would say is that it always starts from character and working with great writers and collaborators,...

Not only did a Wheel of Fortune contestant not win $62,000 on the Bonus Puzzle, but he also had a sausage nightmare when he failed to guess the Triple Toss-Ups. Fans cracked up over the meat-related puzzles. Derek Stutz, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, played against Rosemary Underwood, from Charlestown, Arizona, and Vicki Byrd, from Hanover, Maryland, on September 13, 2024. The game show shared the clip on its Instagram on June 23, 2025. Before the Triple Toss-Ups, Stutz was in the lead with $14,250 and a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Underwood, a grandmother of seven, had $1,000, and Byrd had $4,550. Underwood quickly caught up to the leader when she guessed all three toss-ups correctly, giving her an additional $10,000. With the first one looking like “_ _ _E _ _ _F,” Stutz guessed “Meat Loaf.” He was wrong, and Underwood correctly solved “Kobe Beef” when the puzzle looked like “Kobe BE_F.” She also solved the second one, “Beluga Caviar,” with only one letter left.

Jake Schreier started the year strong by directing Thunderbolts*, which is one of the highest-rated Marvel movies of the Multiverse Saga. Schreier has also been one of the names rumored to be directing Marvel’s X-Men reboot, but this had not been confirmed by anyone involved with the company until now. Sinners and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler recently sat down for an interview with Metro Entertainment to talk about Ironheart, the MCU Disney+ series he executive produced, and he was asked about the other side of online rumors that he's attached to direct the MCU’s X-Men movie. Coogler quickly debunked this and didn’t hesitate to say, “No, Jake is directing that.” When asked for confirmation that he was indeed talking about Jake Schreier, Coogler said, “Yeah.”
