Netflix Shelves Indian Film ‘Tees’, Director Dibakar Banerjee Seeks New Buyer
Image
Exclusive: Indian director Dibakar Banerjee’s Tees has been shelved by Netflix and the auteur is now seeking a new home for the feature.

Netflix confirmed it has no plans to release the feature, but has not commented on the reasons for shelving it.

Tees was announced in 2019 as a Netflix original under its previous title Freedom as “the story of an Indian family interwoven with the personal, ideological and sexual history of India.”

Banerjee shot the Hindi-language film in 2020 and delivered it to Netflix in May 2022, but it remained in limbo for several months until the streamer confirmed that it has no plans to proceed with a release.

The International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) invited Tees to premiere in the Limelight section of this year’s edition, but Banerjee was unable to secure Netflix’s approval to screen the film.

Netflix confirmed that it has given Banerjee permission...

Interview: Danny Boyle Talks '127 Hours,' His Upcoming Projects and Favorite Film of All-Time
Danny Boyle on the set of 127 Hours

Photo: Fox Searchlight Pictures Over this past weekend Fox Searchlight released 127 Hours, Danny Boyle's follow-up to the Oscar Best Picture-winning Slumdog Millionaire, into four theaters. The same day as its release I spoke with Boyle after first seeing the film at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year (read my review) and enjoying it so much I made sure to catch it again before chatting with him.

Already declared an Oscar front-runner and receiving glorious reviews from every corner of the globe, 127 Hours jumped out of the starting gates this weekend with the second best per-theater average of 2010 and will expand nationwide over the coming weeks (see the release schedule here). The film is based on the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston (played impeccably by James Franco) and what happens after a boulder crashes down on his arm, trapping...

Box-Office Wrap-Up: Nov. 5 - Nov. 7, 2010
This was the biggest weekend since Inception's second weekend back on July 23 as the top twelve films took in $146,950,000. However, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I already tracking for $130 million for its release on November 19, we should probably hold off discussing records for the time being.

This week Laremy didn't do too poorly with his predictions with an average percentage of error of only 19.3% with seven accurate placement predictions. Let's see how well he did as well as how well you predicted the weekend's newcomers. Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly: 1 Week In A Row Megamind Well, Megamind performed a little better over the weekend than I expected it would after a $12.5 million Friday. Yesterday morning I assumed that would only translate to about $40-42 million, but Saturday and Sunday proved to be a bit healthier than that. Tracking on this one said about $51 million and Laremy was...

Danny Boyle Exclusive Interview 127 Hours; Plus Updates on Shekhar Kapur’s Paani, Frankenstein, the Olympics, and a Lot More
The biggest constant in Danny Boyle’s career is change. The 54-year-old director left a successful run in British theater and television to tackle a striking range of genres on film: horror, romantic comedy, family drama, thriller, dark comedy, among others. This weekend’s limited release of his real-life man vs. nature film, 127 Hours, marked the first time Boyle has let one actor fully drive a film. The venture paid off with a lead performance from James Franco that is getting rave reviews and the lion’s share of early buzz for the upcoming awards season.

This will also be the Oscar winner’s last directorial effort on film for some time. Boyle is the artistic director of the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony and will smooth that transition from film to live events with a return to theater as the director of a new adaptation of Frankenstein at the Royal National Theatre in England.

Beaufoy back with Boyle for 'Maximum City'
Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy will work again with his Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle on Maximum City. It was recently confirmed that Boyle will return to Mumbai to make a big screen version of Suketu Mehta's book Maximum City: Bombay Lost And Found, which explores Mumbai's criminal underworld, the Hindu nationalist Shiv Sena party, the city's slums and the Bollywood industry. "Maximum City is a non-fiction work, so it will be a huge challenge to find the story in it. (more)...
