Deserves major awards recognition

A heartbreaking and beautiful film anchored by an amazing performance from its young child star. The director, cinematographer, and young actor all deserve major awards recognition and I hope this film is widely seen across the world in cinemas and gets picked up by a major streaming service.

So many elements in a single movie

A touching film with a deep messages coming up throughout the movie . Makes you aware of the Kurdish cause and how humans are divided in the world and how a small boys/girls view world quite differently than adults until they are misguided by people with deep hatred in them . Would be surely top 5 Independent movies I have ever watched . Only complain I have is slow movement of the story at certain points in the movie . The title of the movie is surely justified and signifies how important neighbours can be in your little world very both of you are not seen on very friendly terms with the establishment .

Unique film about persecution of Kurds in Syria

A beautifully conceived and filmed movie depicting the lives and persecution of the Kurdish population in Syria, Life, seen through the eyes of a young Kurdish boy, who has to deal with hardship and violence, is portrayed with enough warmth and humor to soften the harshness. The child star gives an amazing heartfelt performance, and so does the rest of the cast. You get a real feel for the people and region where the story takes place, as well as its history.

My Favorite Movie

This movie was a piece of art along with being highly informative. It tells people about Ba'athism in Syria, and it also tells audience about the human spirit, friendship, and solidarity.

It starts with the first twenty minutes of humor and character development. Then, the film changes its tone by showing more poignant scenes. But it still creates emotional harmony and combines laughter and tears of sadness. The movie describes elements of the Ba'athism psychology demonstrated by a teacher in a variety of ways.

The acting is pretty much flawless. The child actor gives an admirable performance

I would highly recommend watching this movie, although it is very heartbreaking.

Nice Movie

A charming and brilliant film.

It is a stunning masterpiece with excellent storytelling, cinematography, and acting... it's a perfect film.

And even though it is a heart-breaking story, there is enough humor to help get through the film without taking away from the serious gravity of the situation.

A Hidden Gem of Genuine Cinema

Neighbours is one of those rare films that took me by surprise with its beauty and authenticity. Despite its brilliance, it has not received the attention it deserves from media, festivals, or cinema audiences. I went into this film without any prior knowledge, and oh my god, it gripped me so quickly. Its slow narrative and storytelling seeped into me so deeply-it was so pure.

The movie is amazing, not just in its narrative but in the way it handles its slow-paced storytelling with such raw emotion. Every idea the film explores is written with intelligence and beauty. From its core concept of neighbours to the village on the border, to Syria in the 1980s, and most importantly, to the journey of young Sero. Sero, the film's heart beats through his interactions with everything around him. His relationship with his Jewish neighbours, his experiences at school, the events that unfold within his family, and the gradual loss of his innocence-it was all truly heartbreaking.

The performances of all the actors, particularly the young ones, feel authentic and deeply moving. What sets Neighbours apart is its ability to balance tragedy with humor. Despite the heavy themes, the film never feels overwhelmingly bleak... instead, it finds light in the resilience of its characters. This blend of warmth and sorrow makes the story even more poignant, leaving a lasting emotional impact.

Visually, Neighbours is understated but effective. The rugged landscapes and earthy tones reflect the harshness of Sero's world. The cinematography allows the story to breathe, never overwhelming the quiet yet powerful moments of human connection.

The director, Mano Khalil, did a phenomenal job-not only in writing but also in directing. He knew exactly what he wanted to convey and guided the actors with precision to bring this deeply personal story to life. He was also very smart with his framing and camera angles, using them to enhance the emotional depth of each scene and immerse the audience in Sero's world.

While Neighbours doesn't necessarily break new ground in its depiction of political oppression, it excels in its intimate, character-driven storytelling. It is a deeply personal yet universally relevant film, highlighting how authoritarian regimes shape young minds and erode communities. A haunting yet tender film, Neighbours is a must-watch for those who appreciate cinema that blends humanistic storytelling with social commentary.
