The Final Hour

What stuck out the most to me about this film was the surprise of it. While I thought it would be one way, the film went in a completely different direction. To add to that, it had a great message! That is one thing missing today in most mainstream media. I also think this film should be seen by today's young people. Most often, you can't get them to sit still or give their undivided attention to a message of merit. I think this film can do that. It's somewhat likened to, putting medicine in ice cream. Sometimes, what's good for you has to be repackaged in order for you to see it. I honestly thought I was about to watch yet another remake of Friday the 13th, given that it was a Halloween type scary theme. In a time when you can pretty much predict the outcome of the movie from the opening, this was a welcomed surprise.

I had the opportunity to see a free screening of The Final Hour. I think that R.A.W. Cinema crew are very talented and can not wait to see what they are going to do next. The Final Hour is a great short film. It is truly a must see for the entire family. The film is well written, and very entertaining, not to mention - intense. At times it had me on the edge of my seat. All of the actors put on a great performance. There were several surprising effects - ones that I did not expect from a short film, and they were well orchestrated. The only downside for me was it was a short film because I didn't want it to end. It was also great to see young people doing something positive.

The theme of the short film is quite compelling. However, I think a few pieces could be better tied in order for there to be clear enough to be compelling to a person who is not as familiar with Christian vernacular. For instance, the role played by the teacher is not exactly clear - how does his role in his first appearance connect with his role in the second appearance? It is a short film, and I am not a film buff so I am not sure how well developed I should expect each character to be. However, it seems that just a bit more character development would have helped in making the message even more clear. Some of the word choices and analogies made sense to me given my familiarity with the Bible, but I'm not sure the impact or appreciation for the film will be had by someone not as familiar...if indeed the latter is the intended audience. However, again, it is a compelling film and certainly makes me consider how my decisions not only impact me, but those in my life.
