Resumen
Reviewers say 'Landman' is lauded for its realistic oil industry portrayal, strong performances, particularly by Billy Bob Thornton, and compelling narratives. The gritty depiction of industry challenges and personal sacrifices is appreciated. However, criticisms include one-dimensional and overly sexualized female characters, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies in the oil business depiction. Pacing and certain character developments are noted as areas for improvement. Despite these issues, many find 'Landman' an entertaining and thought-provoking series.

I apparently am a sucker for Taylor Sheridan shows. They're well written and entertaining. I'd gladly watch anything with his make attached to it at this point. But what's with the girl in her underwear and the creepy sexualization of her? It's grossly gratuitous. It's extremely
weird how obnoxious she is with it. It's almost that much of a turn off to not want to watch. I AM invested in the story tho so far. I'm also not getting why the woman are so utterly unlikeable. The ex wife is just ugggh. It's truly a head scratcher. Is the show just geared towards drawing men? Love Billy Bob tho. He's always plus.
I need to start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of just about everything Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, 1923, 1883, Tulsa King, Lioness, Sicario, He'll or Highwater, Wind River, etc, etc.). He hits home run after home run and Landman is no different. It's another hit for Sheridan. Landman takes place in modern day Texas where everyone from billionaires to roughnecks are trying to get rich in the oil industry. This series follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he tried to take his company to the top during the oil fuel boom. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good new series to watch, especially if you're a fan of Taylor Sheridan.
Without Thornton this series would be no better than 'ok'. I've watched most of Sheridan's work and it's starting to seem like he's just recycling the same stories but with different themes. He injects his politics into his work and in this series he lectures you with it. I'm also uncomfortable with the sexual themes especially with his 'daughter'. It does not need her appearing in each episode wearing hardly any clothes or in a bikini. The plot does not require it. Each episode seems to have one set-piece accident or incident as though these are normal in the industry, which they are not. I'm not sure how this was rated 8+ but I must be missing something.
Plain and simple, the two of them are ruining what could be a great show.
There's absolutely nothing that they bring to the show beyond being eye candy.
Saying that, it's the most awkward and weird scenarios with both of them. The daughter is showing her body off for some grand father aged men who are friends of her dad.
The mother is all over the place with her attitude and maturity level. Never actually reaching what could be called being an adult. She's a mix of a child and a young teen. She wants to be an airhead bimbo and nothing more.
Get rid of them both and the show would be 100 times better.

Any new show with the always uber-cool Billy Bob Thornton in the lead will automatically be interesting. Landman starts out in a promising way, making me hope for another experience on a Fargo or Goliath level.
And as long as the focus stays on the gritty oil business, Landman is that great - and it stays that way for a good part of the first season, before it turns into a daytime soap. Suddenly it's all long heart-to-heart talks (in typical Taylor Sheridan fashion) and extremely annoying characters galore, starting with the stir crazy ex-wife and the incredibly stupid daughter. Plus, there is way too many really bad songs with even worse lyrics (another Sheridan trademark). My rating is based on Billy Bob's performance, without him it would be three stars.
All in all, I think it's time for Taylor Sheridan to slow down a bit. Too many shows going at once makes the quality suffer.
