Gerard Butler's career began in the mid-1990s with brief appearances in the James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and Tale of the Mummy (1998). During the early 2000s, Butler continued to star in franchise films, playing the eponymous role in Dracula 2000 and appearing in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003).
Butler achieved major fame as King Leonidas in Zack Snyder's 300 (2007). Beginning in 2010, he voiced Stoick the Vast in the animated How to Train Your Dragon franchise and reprised the role in the recent live-action remake. The same decade, he starred as a Secret Service agent in three Has Fallen movies.

Dwayne Johnson’s 2012 family adventure film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is making a climb up the Netflix viewership charts, years after critics initially dismissed the film. While it might seem surprising at first, the come-up makes complete sense as the film became available to stream on Netflix just about a week ago.
This second installment of the franchise might have a modest 44% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, but that clearly hasn’t stopped it from trending over a decade after its release. In addition to this semi-sequel, the first installment of the franchise, Journey to the Center of the Earth, which also became available on Netflix on the same day and stars Brendan Fraser in the lead role, is also trending. Johnson’s flick has cracked the national Top 10 and, as of August 9, it has reached #3on the U.S. movies list on Netflix. That’s not all, though...

Vanessa Hudgensmay be forever linked to her breakout role in High School Musical, but her career has been a more nuanced journey. She made her feature film debut in the gritty indie Thirteen (2003) before gaining widespread fame as Gabriella Montez in Disney's High School Musical trilogy (2006–2008). This launched her into the mainstream, cementing her as a pop culture icon of the 2000s.
Beyond her Disney roots, Hudgens has steadily expanded her filmography. She has appeared in films like Bandslam (2009), Beastly, Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch (both 2011), and the early A24 movie Spring Breakers (2012), showcasing her range and bold choices. Her later work includes Second Act (2018), Bad Boys for Life (2020), and the Netflix musical Tick, Tick... Boom! (2021).
Recently, Hudgens has become known for Netflix Christmas movies, starring in The Princess Switch (2018) and its sequels, subtitled Switched Again (2020) and Romancing the Star (2021). She's also starred in The Knight Before Christmas (2019). However, it's an...

YA dystopian movie adaptations were a major trend during the 2010s. It all started with The Hunger Games movies in 2012, which, based on the books by Suzanne Collins, have made $3.3 billion at the box office and lived on even after the trend has died, with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes becoming a hit in 2023 and a sequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, set for 2026.
Other examples that found success include the three Maze Runner movies, based on the books by James Dashner, which made $949 million at the box office, and the three Divergent movies, based on the books by Veronica Roth, which, despite being panned by critics, made $765 million at the box office.
Other examples include I Am Number Four (2011), Ender's Game, The Host, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (all 2013), The Giver (2014), and The Darkest Minds (2018). Steven Spielberg even got in on the trend with Ready Player One (2018). However,...

After American Pie1 and 2, another pair of fan-favorite films is charting a course to Netflix this August: Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) and its semi-sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012). The announcement brings together Brendan Fraser’s hit and Dwayne Johnson’s take on a similar plot under one streaming roof.
The news comes after Whats on Netflix reported all that’s about to arrive on Netflix starting August 1. The films will offer Netflix audiences a double-dose of family-friendly action, fantastical creatures, and high-stakes exploration. Both films feature Josh Hutcherson as the connecting thread and tap into the Jules Verne-inspired spectacle of today’s CGI-heavy blockbusters. Journey to the Center of the Earth marks the first installment, led by Fraser in a role that reminded audiences why he was one of Hollywood’s most likable action stars. Born in Nantes, France in 1928, Jules Verne was sent to Paris as a young man to study law, but fell in love with theatre. He wrote several plays, got married, worked as a stock broker, and continued to write on the side. Eventually, Verne had an epiphany: What if he combined his twin passions of adventure stories and scientific inquiry? You might say this was a "novel" concept in the mid-1800s. Verne's vision was realized when a publisher agreed to print Verne's "Voyages extraordinaires—Cinq semaines en ballon" ("Extraordinary Journeys: Five Weeks In A Balloon") in 1864. The serialized story became a bestseller, so Verne quit his job, writing "science fiction" for 40 years until his death in 1905.
"Extraordinary journeys" doesn't have the same ring as "sci-fi," but Verne is often called the "father of science fiction". Considering sci-fi stories dominate narrative storytelling, Verne can be considered the grandaddy of "Star Wars,...

Some men climb mountains. The Rock seems content battling snakes, spirits, and stone-templed curses, all without leaving the jungle. With six separate movies set deep in foliage and danger, Dwayne Johnson’s cinematic résumé seems to have sprouted its own subgenre: The Rock Jungle Movie. But not all vines are worth swinging. Some of these adventures are well-created crowd-pleasers with stellar casts and clever writing, while others feel like overgrown relics or missed opportunities, lost in the underbrush.
In this rundown (no pun intended), we’re not just looking at jungle-set action; we’re diving into box office numbers, Rotten Tomatoes scores, directors, and performances to separate the classics from the cinematic compost. From Jumanji’s billion-dollar success to the forgotten misfire of The Rundown, here’s your definitive guide to which of The Rock’s six jungle odysseys deserve your time and which should be left behind with the mosquitoes.

The Rock and John Cena are the biggest mainstream superstars synonymous with the WWE. Dwayne Johnson has been a Hollywood behemoth for over two decades, while Cena is on the path to becoming a Hollywood superstar. Before all the glitz and glamour, they gave their all in a wrestling ring and became so popular that the mainstream couldn’t ignore them.
The strangest thing about them is that they haven’t yet played any role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel films from both within and outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe have featured WWE stars, and there are also a few wrestlers who narrowly missed out on joining their ranks. That’s why it’s strange that they haven’t yet done roles with Marvel.
John Cena and The Rock were left out of the MCU for some reason or another
It’s also not like they weren’t considered.

Dwayne Johnson's $177 million box office disappointment lands on Netflix's global chart seven years later. Johnson, also known by his ring name The Rock, began his career in professional wrestling and became one of the most celebrated stars in the WWE, his charisma and physical prowess leading to opportunities in Hollywood. His first film role came in 2001's The Mummy Returns, which spawned the spin-off The Scorpion King. This led to a variety of roles for The Rock from action-hero to comedic lead, becoming one of the most bankable stars.
Over the years, he has starred in family-friendly comedies like The Game Plan, Tooth Fairy, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and Jumanji: The Next Level. Dwayne Johnson's action movies include Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Hercules, San Andreas, Skyscraper, Rampage, and the Fast & Furious franchise. Vanessa Hudgens shot to fame playing Gabriella Montez in Disney's High School Musical, and along with her star, her net worth continues to rise. Like many young Disney Channel actors, Hudgens sought to distance herself from her squeaky clean roots by taking on roles in more mature films like Sucker Punch and Spring Breakers. And while she's come a long way since her HSM days, Hudgens hasn't forgotten her roots, and has continued to show her musical talent in Fox's live musicals, Grease Live! (2015) and Rent: Live (2019), along with Lin-Manuel Miranda's feature film directorial debut, Tick, Tick...Boom! (2021).
Hudgens was born in Salinas, California to her mother, Gina, who is of Filipino descent and held various office jobs, and her father, Gregory, who passed away in 2016 and was a firefighter of Irish and Native American descent. Cash Out opens with Mason Goddard and his crew stealing an outrageously expensive supercar as what he intends to be his last heist. Things don’t go as planned however as one of them, his girlfriend Amelia no less, is an undercover FBI agent. He barely escapes, and since he was already planning to retire, takes it one step further, he fakes his death and drops out of sight.
Three months later, his brother Shawn drops by trying to interest him in coming out of retirement for one more job. That doesn’t work, but when another member of the crew, Link calls he’s packing and on his way to the airport.
The next thing we know, Mason and Shawn are kidnapping a bank manager and the plan is in motion.

Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock has portrayed a lot of different characters in a plethora of movies. Yet, despite him doing an amazing job, the wrestler-turned-actor has never managed to convince fans that he is ‘acting’. The reason is, that Johnson often seems to be portraying more or less similar characters in numerous projects he has undertaken throughout his years in Hollywood.

In the world of advertising, there’s a term called “negative marketing”. It’s when a company benefits from how terrible its products are because people cannot stop complaining about it. Well, Jennifer Lopez’s 2024 Netflix film had something similar but maybe they didn’t mean to do it intentionally!

Plot: Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. When plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it
Review: Jennifer Lopez has been in five films over the last two years, and another, Unstoppable, is still on the way. After her acclaimed 2019 performance in Hustlers, Lopez has starred in two romantic comedies, two action films, and a bizarre music video-slash-biopic monstrosity linked to her latest album. Now, her second Netflix feature in as many years, Atlas, aims to be J.Lo’s Marvel-esque blockbuster but falls short in every conceivable way. Directed by San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton, Atlas is a special effects-laden foray into the most cliched science fiction genre offering I have seen in a long time.

“Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, pervasive language and brief drug use.”
Watch the official trailer for Abigail below, which is a bloody blast. The Don’t Breathe-esque setup introduces a band of criminals who attempt to kidnap a seemingly innocent young girl. Of course, the little girl turns out to be a vampire – a ballerina vampire, to be specific.
The cast for this one is absolutely stacked with talent, and the killer premise looks to have been executed by Radio Silence in the most fun – and bloody – way possible. It channels the spirit of their pre-Scream horror hit Ready or Not, and it promises to be a gory good time.

Jules Verne's work has inspired numerous movie adaptations and is the foundation for some of the earliest science fiction films. Some Jules Verne adaptations are entertaining and enjoyable, while others are outdated and not required viewing. The film "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (2008) successfully updates Verne's classic story with modern special effects and remains fun to watch.
Jules Verne is undoubtedly one of the most prominent authors in science fiction, and its no wonder that his works have inspired countless movie adaptations. One of the most translated writers in human history, the French author has written legendary tales like 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in 80 Days. Verne's daring imagination put him far ahead of his time, and it's no surprise that movie studios have sought to replicate his sense of wonder with multiple live-action adaptations of Jules Verne stories.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island brings a fresh perspective with a shift in narrative focus, combining mystery, fantasy, and action. Dwayne Johnson's charismatic performance as Hank Parsons adds humor, physical prowess, and emotional depth to the film. Vanessa Hudgens' portrayal of Kailani is full of confidence and charm.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the second installment in the Journey film franchise, which features an all-star cast including Vanessa Hudgens. While 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth was inspired by Jules Verne's classic sci-fi novel of the same name, Journey 2 embraces a different Verne novel, The Mysterious Island, as its primary source material and focuses more on comedy. Unlike the first film's underground exploration theme, Journey 2 expands its horizon to an enigmatic island, introducing new characters and challenges. It makes for an exciting standalone adventure while maintaining a connection to the franchise's adventurous spirit.

Lobo's unique persona and captivating presence make him an ideal character for a rebooted cinematic DC Universe. Despite previous failed attempts, the big screen debut of Lobo may finally be coming to fruition, with rumors of an appearance in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy. While a Lobo film directed by Guy Ritchie or Michael Bay would have been exciting, fans can trust that James Gunn will do right by the character.
Despite his status as a somewhat fringe comic character, Lobo is the perfect candidate to help lead a rebooted cinematic DC Universe. There's just something about the 7-foot-tall, blue-skinned biker that grabs an audience's attention and doesn't let go. Lobo has done it all in the DC universe -- from joining the Justice League to fighting Superman in order to win a bet -- but he still has so much more to bring fans of the superhero genre.
