Willie Garson died during production at age 57. In a touching interview with Stephen Colbert, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon revealed that the cast and crew were not informed of his condition when production began. Davis broke in tears describing going to work without him: "It's hard. I wish he was here".
Charlotte's new dog is named "Richard Burton," after the famous Welsh actor. This is a nod to her former dog, named Elizabeth Taylor, as Taylor & Burton were famously wed. Twice.
Kim Cattrall does not reprise the character of Samantha Jones. She was not asked to return for this series, after negotiations of a third Sex and the City film fell apart, between her and the production. Cattrall had repeatedly stated over the years that she is done playing Samantha, and that she will not be part of additional movies or a series reboot. Several media outlets has focused on a "toxic relationship" with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker to be one of the reasons she decidedly will not return.
Costume designer Patricia Field, who won an Emmy for her work on the original series, will not return for this project, due to scheduling conflicts with the second season of Emily en París (2020). Instead, the costume designer on this series is Molly Rogers. She previously worked as wardrobe supervisor of the original series and costume co-designer on Sex and the City: La película (2008).
Sequel to Sex and the City 2 (2010). Filming began in Summer 2021 and wrapped one week before the premiere of the first episode. Darren Star, the creator of the original series, is not involved. Meanwhile, Michael Patrick King, previous showrunner and director of the two feature films, returns as director of three episodes and producer.
