A documentary series on the history of submarines, from their first development in the mid-19th century, to their first effective military use in World War 1, to the famous German U-Boat wolfpacks of World War 2 to the modern nuclear-powered leviathans, armed with nuclear missiles.
An okay documentary series. Covers the history of submarines in breadth but doesn't go into much depth. A longer, more comprehensive series would have been great.
Being a German production it also tends to focus on German submarines and so misses the US designs which make the German ones look quite puny. A brief discussion on modern Russian submarines, including the Kursk disaster, but once again more detail was called for.
Best viewed by people who know very little about submarines as people with a decent knowledge are unlikely to learn anything new.

It could have been a good historical series but soon enough you realise how biased it was made. It focuses on fictitious Nazi victories more than historical facts. It's rather disturbing how they try to glorify Nazi crews and portray American and British navy as unqualified and incompetent.
Situations are often basic, not well thought out. Germans characters that were fatally injured are suddenly fully healed as if nothing ever happened. Characters that in the story did not speak a word of French, suddenly were speaking perfect French with no accent.
Not very believable. Created by and for the average German public, trying to create a rather worrying sense of pride for one of most terrible regimes in human history. Very sad, and not worth watching...
