I'll be honest on both fronts and tell you straight up. I'm a huge Alien fan. From the original, sequel and hell I even didn't mind number 3 and resurrection. I'm not a fanatical fan by any means but I enjoy sci fi sand horror so yeah these films were right to my alley
To the tv series .
I feel asleep half way into the second episode.... I never fall asleep unless the content genuinely does not stimulate my brain.
It lacked atmosphere, strong characters and just felt genuinely cheap. They add in some occasional sound effects from the old trilogy and call it a day.
This is more about the evolution of humans after death transferring their minds to an Android body.
It should probably be better if they focused spend aliens a little bit more. Or want horrible, but if I'm falling asleep then in definitely is not good either.
Watch with low expectations and you probably won't be disappointed.
Hopefully it improves.

I've just finished the first two episodes. As a fan of the original movie and being in my fifties, this series is definitely not for me. It's got none of the suspense, tension or build of the original, a weird teen genius who eats apples and appears to be a moron, super-fast synthetic children in adult form who move painfully slowly at all times. Sorry but I just found the whole thing utterly ridiculous.
Also - it's still just set in a spaceship, it just happens to be crashed into the side of a building.
Very disappointing.

There have been plenty of Alien projects that have come out over the years since the original trilogy and while some have been watchable and the other down right awful, this is closer to the unwatchable ones than the watchable. Somehow, it's gotten nothing but great reviews from both critics and split from fans of the franchise. It actually currently has a fantastic 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Alien: Earth is about when a mysterious spaceship crashes on Earth and a ragtag group of soldiers, led by a woman named Wendy, have to make the discovery that will put them up against the greatest threat the planet has ever seen. What follows is a series that looks like it was made for kids and not adults.
The production values are a solid 10. For better or worse, the target demographic is adolescents and mid-teens of median intellect. The writing and plot are at a level of a 1980s Saturday morning cartoon. Dumbness and plot holes ruin the experience virtually every 30 seconds. For example, a search and rescue team is dispatched to a spaceship crash: they look and act like a comic small town militia, sloppy, inept, no discipline, armed to the teeth, no rescue or search equipment. The WTF moments just keep stacking up until the irritation factor just turns you off.
The show is absolutely wonderful in its stupidity. A ship crashes in the middle of a city - apparently, there is no air defense or military on the planet at all. There are no firefighters either; only medics arrive at the crash site, but for some reason they're carrying assault rifles. They run around shouting "search and rescue!" while pointing their guns into every corner.
Seeing a hole with a beam sticking out, they immediately crawl inside without securing anything in place or even thinking about how they'll get out again (with the wounded, since they're medics) afterward. When faced with obvious organic contamination and containers with experiments inside, nobody informs the medical service or cordons off the crash site in case of infection - why bother.
Not to mention that right in the middle of the crash site, some millionaire's plane lands, people run out of it and climb onto the ship, and absolutely no one cares. Meanwhile, the almighty Weyland-Yutani is just scratching its head somewhere and doing nothing the entire time.
