A musical horror comedy indie delight!

This is one of those amazing films where you wonder (in a good way) what am I watching? This is a genre bending delight. The film is well written with some lovely one-liners and funny insights. The plot revolves around a TV talent contest with the competition including a cheerleader group and a boy band. The musical numbers are catchy and inspired. My favourite number was "I am just a guy dying on the floor". Please watch if you get a chance as I was lucky enough to catch this at the World Premiere in London. Funny, original and imaginative. Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton are great as the leads and are well supported by a strong cast.

A Horror Musical with Heart

I was lucky enough the catch this indie gem at Frightfest London 2022 and it did not disappoint. A horror comedy musical filled with heart, gore and some really fun performances from a clearly passionate cast that put everything into the movie.

The movie follows a misfit cheerleading group called 'Power Cheer', the girls enter a reality TV contest and come up against the Starmen (whose intro harmony had me in stitches every time) and things soon veer into the supernatural territory with a cursed wishing necklace that brings a load of Zombie/Demons to the party, resulting in some great splattery gore. There's also a really fun love story involving a severed hand but I'll let you find out about that for yourself!

The writing is spot on with one-liners and jokes that land well, both in dialogue and the songs which had me tapping my feet quite a few times.

This film is a very pure example of micro budget indie filmmaking at its best and I had a fantastic time watching it. It can be scrappy around the edges in some places but all that is totally forgiven moments later when the next hilarious song kicks in. Check this out as soon as you can, you won't regret it.

Bloody romp for those who enjoy campy musicals

Powertool Cheerleaders vs The Boyband of the Screeching Dead is an indie horror-comedy-musical that's as wild as its title suggests. It follows waitress Emily, who must overcome her fear of cheerleaders to lead a misfit squad in a TV talent show. Things go haywire when a cursed talisman turns their boyband rivals into zombies, forcing the girls to use friendship and power tools to survive. The film is packed with self-aware humor, catchy but campy songs, and practical effects that shine on a budget. It's chaotic, clever, and wonderfully trashy, with fourth-wall-breaking antics and meta references. A love letter to Troma-style horror and a fun, bloody romp for those who enjoy campy musicals with a twist.

Possibly the director's best yet

POWERTOOL CHEERLEADERS VS THE BOYBAND OF THE SCREECHING DEAD is the latest indie horror comedy from British filmmaker Pat Higgins, the man responsible for STRIPPERS VS WEREWOLVES (although don't hold that against him). I recently saw a talk given by Higgins about the art of filmmaking and I can report that he comes across as a likeable and charismatic individual, but my opinion of his films is far lower. This one's better than some of his earlier work, feeling more professional, with neat effects, solid transitions and a semi-decent script; even better, it has a series of musical numbers which aren't at all bad. Sadly, the horror content is too limited for this to work very well, and in the end it can't overcome the usual budgetary constraints of the genre.

Cheer on the Cheerleaders!!

This film is so funny, some brilliant one liners and also plenty of blood and guts. The plot is well thought out with some really rememberable scenes, the songs are catchy.

The characters in the cheerleaders and the boyband are great and you get to see their individual traits and the dynamics of each of the groups. Plenty of other characters that are well thought out and have their moment in the limelight before most of them meet their demise.

I seen it at the world premier and frightfest and it got a massive round of applause when the credits ran so it is a film well worth watching must be the No.1 film that crosses over the 3 genres of Comedy, Horror and Musical ;-)

An absolute riot of a horror comedy musical! A must watch.

Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead is everything the title promises-and so much more. It's an electric, genre-bending rollercoaster that smashes horror, comedy, glam rock, and riot grrrl energy into a gory, glitter-filled spectacle of glorious chaos.

Director Pat Higgins deserves serious kudos for delivering a film that is not only wildly imaginative but genuinely fresh. The creativity on display here is off the charts-from possessed boyband killers to weaponized pom-poms and DIY stage blood showers, every scene is dripping with DIY punk energy and gleeful carnage. It's like Evil Dead met Spice World in a haunted garage and decided to start a band.

At the heart of the madness is Charlie Bond, who absolutely slays as the lead cheerleader. She brings charisma, badass energy, and real emotional weight to a role that could have easily been all camp. Instead, she anchors the chaos with conviction and flair, flipping between high-kick choreography and brutal kills like it's second nature. The rest of the cast? Equally killer-funny, fierce, and fully committed to the absurdity.

The action sequences are a giddy blast of chainsaws, pom-pom fatalities, and creative gore effects that'll make any horror fan cheer. But it's the musical numbers that really push this into cult-classic territory. Yes, the boyband from hell screams, shreds, and murders their way through earworm tunes that you'll be humming even as you're wiping fake blood off your shirt. Think Glee meets Grindhouse-and somehow it works.

And let's talk about the gore-it's practical, plentiful, and lovingly over-the-top. Heads roll, guts spill, glitter flies. The kills are creative and crowd-pleasing, with just the right amount of splatter to satisfy the sickos in the front row.

In a world full of safe reboots and soulless sequels, Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead is a defiant scream of originality. It's raw, ridiculous, and irresistibly fun.

Zombies and Singing Sirens

Pat Higgins' rock opera slasher-fest is a great group-of-intoxicated-friends-getting-together-for-a-movie-night event. It's a schlockfest of the highest caliber. Great practical VFX, and great color saturation. There's gore, there's zombies and there are some fantastic musical numbers. Charlie Bond leads a multi-faceted cast with great vocal harmony. This movie definitely favors a group screening at a movie house, but don't let that stop you from streaming it multiple times. It's a lot of fun.

Cannot recommend this one enough. If you're looking for something fun, unique, and new, this is your movie!

POWER CHEER!

I just watched the movie Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead.

The movie has a lot of strong scenes that I enjoyed watching and which were very comical.

The movie is written & directed by Pat Higgins.

I'm not really sure which category I'd put this movie in... but it's funny.

The movie has fun dialogue and drama and crazy scenes. It was also shot in a very cool way with many scenes that are insane to see and experience. The storyline pulls you in many directions as you're watching this movie.. I thought all the lead actors all had great onscreen chemistry- they were great together. The sets are great for an indie movie. I look forward to what this director and filmmaker has coming up next! Check this movie out! You'll remember it! Lol Scary and funny and crazy!!! POWER CHEER!

Unlike Anything I've seen!

Unlike anything I've seen! Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband Zombies is a film that knows what it is and delivers. Breaking the fourth wall, middle aged women dressing like teenage cheerleaders, breaking into song, death lighting cues, zombies, a credit roll BTS song, and of course a severed hand straight outta Adams Family! It doesn't take itself seriously and that is the best thing for a film like this.

The film takes big swings stylistically and due to its comedic nature certain forgivable allowances are given to its production quality and the effects. That being said the musical numbers are a fun escape from the dark humor that is the film.

Grab a beer, pop the corn, turn out the lights and enjoy!

A fun and wild ride

"Powertool cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead" is a fun indie horror musical extravaganza. Pat Higgins' direction showcases masterful command for the genre, combining colorful visuals, a fast-paced narrative, and an extra dose of outrageous camp. The movie is a gloriously funny, blood-soaked musical experience, so strap on your seat belt and enjoy the wide ride.

The film is populated with lovely one-liners and campy moments. The plot revolves around a TV talent show with the competition including a cheerleader group, a magician and a boy band. The musical numbers are fun and inspired, including a number called "I am just a guy dying on the floor". Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton both shine brightly as the leads and are well supported by a strong ensembles cast.

The supporting characters in the cheerleaders and the boyband are great and you get to see their individual quirky characters, and the unique dynamics of each of the groups, each character is well thought out and have their moment in the sun before most of them hysterically meet their end. The cheerleaders, led by a feisty Charlie Bond, deliver great comedic timing and physical prowess, while the boys led by James Hamer-Morton channel smooth and classic boyband vibes.

A fun and generally charming musical zombie/comedy

Struggling with a crippling phobia, a woman decides to go on a reality show designed to exploit the fear so that she can help overcome it, but when the experience turns into a zombie outbreak following a sacred ritual must bring her group together to stave off the undead hordes involved.

Overall, this was a fantastic entry with so much to enjoy about it. One of the better features of this one is the fantastic setup that provides this one with a far more heartwarming tale than expected. The initial reason to get the band of women together as cheerleaders and go on the show due to her phobia of the profession following the stories she's been told about the grandmother that torments her into this situation makes for a fun and immensely cheesy set up to bring the group together for the show. With enough background work to showcase the group coming together and bonding over their professional ambitions the further they go in the competition which also manages to include some fun sidestories in their interactions with the other contestants. Outside of this, the film's sense of fun that comes about before and after the amulet comes into play releasing the zombie outbreak is immensely fun. Since the cheerleaders have spent as much as they have getting bonded together, the plight they share makes for a fun enough time here as the series of zombification of the opposing band spreads throughout the area turning everyone they come across into creatures just like them leading to encounters at the remote garage studio or the hysterical encounter at the cabin they're rehearsing at which has some bizarre concepts alongside several insanely funny musical numbers that add a fantastically cheesy atmosphere to everything. This all leads nicely into the wild finale where the various storylines turn into a lot of fun encounters with the big musical numbers matching the zany action featuring the ability to come together and stop the rampaging zombies in a slew of zany encounters and bloodshed. These all come together to provide a lot to like here although there are a few slight issues bringing this down. The main factor with the film is that it spends so much time getting to the finale where the zombies run wild that it can run a little longer getting to the more genre-focused material. Going through the bonding with the team, the interactions with the boyband trying to sabotage their rehearsals, and the other backstage politics that carry on with the competition that it can feel a bit too long in this part before getting to the zombie action which could be a factor that turns off some. Other issues, like the musical nature of the film which might not be appealing for all, and the low-budget origins found here, but these are just personal preference factors and not truly detrimental.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

Where musical madness meets supernatural crisis after crisis! - teeth grinding, nail biting mayhem!

Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead:

Where musical madness meets supernatural crisis after crisis! - teeth grinding, nail biting mayhem!

Director: Charlie Bond

Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead is a chaotic, campy, and unapologetically quirky blend of horror, comedy, and musical mayhem. Directed by Charlie Bond, this indie gem is a delightful homage to B-movie culture, infused with a surprising level of creativity and charm.

The film pits an unlikely team of cheerleaders armed with power tools against a resurrected boyband whose sinister serenades unleash undead chaos. While the premise sounds ludicrous - and it absolutely is - the movie fully leans into its absurdity, delivering laugh-out-loud humor and over-the-top action sequences.

The standout feature is undoubtedly its soundtrack. From catchy, tongue-in-cheek boyband numbers to energetic cheerleader anthems, the music perfectly captures the offbeat tone of the film. The choreography and musical interludes are both humorous and surprisingly polished, showcasing the cast's commitment to their roles.

The ensemble cast deserves credit for their performances, particularly in striking a balance between self-awareness and genuine enthusiasm. The cheerleaders, led by a feisty and fearless protagonist, deliver a mix of sharp comedic timing and physical prowess, while the boyband members revel in their undead personas, channeling campy menace with gusto.

The practical effects and set pieces are impressive for an indie production, with cleverly staged fight scenes and a liberal use of gore. However, the film occasionally struggles with pacing, and some jokes don't land as well as others. Yet, these minor flaws add to the charm, reminding viewers that this is a love letter to the gloriously imperfect world of cult cinema.

Charlie Bond's direction showcases a clear passion for the genre, combining vibrant visuals, a fast-paced narrative, and an infectious sense of fun. Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead knows exactly what it is - a gloriously ridiculous, blood-soaked musical extravaganza - and it doesn't try to be anything else.

If you're a fan of films like Shaun of the Dead or The Rocky Horror Picture Show, this movie is a must-watch. It's a riotously entertaining blend of humor, horror, and music that deserves a spot in the midnight movie rotation.

Rating: 10/10 A wonderfully absurd cult classic in the making.

A great indie horror flick with a twist

I really enjoyed the film, another great showcase of Pat Higgins' directing talent! He manages to deliver all the gore and scares we've come to expect, but this time, he adds some musical numbers. I was skeptical about how a horror film could balance musical comedy with the intensity of gore, but Higgins nails it perfectly.

The film makes you genuinely care about what happens to the characters. It's refreshing to see that depth in a genre where that's not always the focus.

I have to give a special mention to Alan Ronald-his standout song midway through the film is an absolute highlight. It really captures the spirit of the film. Overall - a unique blend of horror and humor that's definitely worth a watch!

More fun then you know!

When a cursed amulet transforms their rival boy band into a screeching horde of undead, a spirited group of cheerleaders must use their wits, friendship, and a wild arsenal of power tools to survive a talent show gone apocalyptic. This award-winning festival favorite is a horror-musical-comedy mashup that's as inventive as it is entertaining.

Written and directed by the talented Pat Higgins and starring the charismatic Charlie Bond, this film is a love letter to creativity and genre-bending cinema. Equal parts musical, apocalyptic action, and cheerleader vs. Boy band showdown, it also delivers a healthy dose of comedy. While the "zombies" in question defy traditional labels, their antics provide a hilariously chaotic twist on the undead genre.

With its vibrant colors, fast-paced thrills, and clever moments of fourth-wall breaking, this is a film designed to put you in a great mood. Grab some popcorn (and maybe some chocolate), settle in, and prepare for a ride full of surprises. It's best experienced firsthand-spoiler-free-for maximum impact.

A must-watch for fans of quirky, energetic storytelling with a lot of heart!
