Jeez, The Happytime Murders looks better than this... and that's made by an ACTUAL PUPPET COMPANY!
I can tell that all the bad reviews are from the people who can't take a joke at the expensive of their own political party, the show is hilariously satirical and coming at such a perfect time in American politics.
If you didn't have a chance to be disappointed in the 2021 Oscars , here is your chance to regret owning a television. I have to wonder if the network execs or show runners have ever seen " Lets Be Real" and why it has such high ratings. It wasn't cleaver, it wasn't funny, it wasn't entertaining. So how did it get a second season?
Seems like most (all?) of the 1-star reviews are just from conservatives who 1) don't understand satire 2) think everyone is out to get them 3) still believe the election was stolen.
It's important to realize, though, that "people" like Trump and Ted Cruz are already caricatures and puppets, so portraying them as actual puppet caricatures seems somewhat unnecessary, and as such, some of the jokes involving them just fall flat.
The impressions are well-done, in the sense that the voices are realistic, but there is more cringe than humor in a lot of these sketches. I expected a bit more from Smigel, really.

It has been at least 20 years since I watched a "sketch" comedy that made made fun of politicians and celebrities regardless of their political leanings. I am in my 50's and I enjoyed SNL up until about 1999 because they mocked everyone equally. I miss those simpler times where people could laugh at themselves, laugh at comedy (realizing it is comedy) and not get offended by way too many innocuous things.
In other words, you can mock my favorite politician(s) or his/her opponents equally and I can laugh at it all if it is done well.
The previews/trailers for the show were not good and missed the mark. I only watched it by chance, so Fox might want to rethink their commercials for the show.
