Adil Ray's mechanical, maniacal delivery just ruins an otherwise decent game show.
His over-the-top laughter at the most mundane of comments, his entirely samey presentation, down to the same phrasing show after show ... his artificially trying to ramp up the tension as the show proceeds ... makes this almost unwatchable.
Do yourself a favour, ITV, get someone half-decent instead.

Lingo is an enjoyable idea for an afternoon game show spoiled by Adil Ray's awkward presentation with hands in pockets or arms folded. This is such bad manners. It is so rude and disrespectful as well as distracting. Also his false loud laugh and repetitive phrases become very grating. His loudly proclaimed "Ooh hello" when anyone gets something right quickly is also very irritating. He makes a huge fuss about the money even if it is a paltry amount. He has relaxed a bit but still just doesn't know what to with his hands and shifts around from foot to foot. But the worst thing are the hands, especially in his pockets or with arms folded.

I could imagine Stephen mulhern hosting this and the show being amazing, but we have Adil Ray who unfortunately wasn't able to show his comedic abilities in this and was a bit boring. Hate to admit it. Although considering schools were shut whilst this aired this was a useful tool as an English lesson for teaching children new vocabulary while being fun too, for them at least. I know enough but I don't express it here haha.
Overall, a really good show but it could've been better. AND ALSO ITS SO ANNOYING WHEN THE WORD POPS UP AND YOU DONT GET IT BECAUSE ITS ALWAYS EXTREMELY OBVIOUS. Happened to me tonnes and I needed to express my anger about that haha.

I cannot for the life of me understand how the heck Adil Ray keeps getting on the tele - unnatural, unfunny, untalented and unlikable making the entire thing unwatchable.

Another game show hosted by a comedian in the hope it will generate some humour, and another format from another country being desperately repacked to make it try and work over here.
Neither works well here.

The show would be great to play along to if not for one of the most annoying hosts on TV (only other equally annoying is Ben Sheppard). Adil Ray stands there annoyingly holding his hand out like some kind of professor presenting a powerpoint on string theory and repeats the same exact phrase of "unlucky" whenever a contestant fails to guess their word! Change it up a bit you ANNOYING DONKEY! Another super annoying trait is him coming up with super annoying quips of the words they guess. For example if their guess is the word "Right" this muppet will 100% announce "is this the 'right' answer??" This happens 99% of the time and combined with his donkey like laugh and failed attempts at witty charisma makes it unbearable to watch!

What a rubbish show. It's the only show l have seen where you have to win the full amount again. Get to the final & have your winnings cut in half & your the winner's.

My husband and I don't normally watch daytime TV but I caught a bit of this whilst in the dentists waiting room. Found it when I got home.
We record and watch later in the evening.
It's a good, light hearted, fun quiz show. Adil Ray is great at presenting it. Very natural. The contestants can usually provide a few laughs.
If you like your wordy puzzles, give it a go. We enjoy it.
Ignore the naysayers. It's an afternoon quiz show. Does what it says on the tin.

The show itself is watchable, but ruined by the presenter's stilted delivery, leaving a pause between each word, as if trying to use up the time.

The promise is good. But the host for this season 2 is very dry very scripted and not warm or even remotely human. I feel his script is is too much for him. Kind of painful to watch really. The host looks like he's not having any fun at all as well. Not sure why they want me to put in a whole lot more information but okay. I guess I should watch season 1 with the blue collar comedy guy that hosted it before so I'd actually have a comparison but again I do like the promise of the show and the contestants are great the host is just dry and not entertaining at all will never watch again! Yeah Not fun at all.

Right, what is going on in with Adil Ray, he's in sitcoms, he's presenting GMB, and now he's hosting this awful game show?
Adil Ray, funny, clever, and smart, but a presenter, just no, what a waste of his talents.
This is another in the line of terrible quiz shows, nothing new seems to hold a candle to the likes of The Chase and The Weakest link.
The hope is when you watch some of these shows you may learn something, I fear this will encourage the loss of cells. Really though, it's not good. 2/10.
Adil please put your talents to good use, your way better than this.

The latest series (September 2024) has more boring conversations than previous outings. LINGO is a "top of the mind numbing" charts contender fast catching the BBCs awful "Pointless" rubbish. Adil Ray should have stuck to radio. His false sincerity and cheesy grin can induce vomiting. The show requires reinvention with 6 teams of two, an AI host, zero chat, scores displayed on screen top, 1st round = 2 teams eliminated, 2nd = 2, 3rd = 1. All failed attempts can be contested. The current 1st round 4 letter and 2nd round 5 letter should remain along with the phrase/word puzzle. Round 3 format should remain. Only a 2 second gap between the end of each completed/failed attempt.

Not a bad show to watch mid-afternoon if you like find out that you're smarter than the average Brit.
MAURI - A New Zealand indigenous tribe. LOL - one of the examples of silly lingo I've heard obviously ignorant of the spelling MAORI, as the initial spelling refers to a flour company on the same country
Yes, the odd word and/or meaning is questionable, but adds to the viewer frustration of players whose brain goes foggy or freezes. Type of game where you can't help but scream out the answers, and you'll find that the contestants must hear your cry as they eventually guess the correct answers.

This has the potential to be a good afternoon show (and provide some lockdown relief!). However, it's made difficult to watch because of Adil Ray the presenter - he is far too forced and patronising. If ITV plan to record more episodes and retain viewers, they need a far more natural host (such as Zoe Lyons, host of Lightening on BBC2, launched about the same time as Lingo).

The premise of the quiz is pretty good and is obviously based on a well known online game, played daily by millions. But the show itself has some major flaws.
Several other reviews have mentioned the poor presentation and a better presenter would definitely improve the show. He is a little cringeworthy. But what really irks me is the prize money. The winners of the knockout rounds get to the final and they have to win the first of the next rounds to get HALF of their money, then win another round to win the money that have already accumulated. How short of money are these producers? It's not like they are giving away life changing amounts.
If contestants make it to the final, give them what they have won. Then give them the opportunity to double and treble it. Otherwise it just looks miserly.

The premise of the show is pretty simple... guess the words. But more often than not, this show just destroys my faith in humanity at just how moronic people can possibly be.
It's just painful to watch when they get a word wrong, and it eliminates certain letters, then their next guess contains the same frigging letters. If the answer is not "DUDDY" and no letters are correct, then the next word is not going to be "DADDY" as the previous guess said there is no "D" in the answer. (After the first letter anyway)
The show is too frustrating to watch when these contestants are as thick as bricks. It makes it in no way entertaining seeing them embarras themselves whilst revealing their poor education.... or applied for a game show they don't even understand how you're supposed to play.
These idiots might as well just shout out they'd like to buy a vowel or spin the wheel. It leaves me convinced there is a screening process for contestsnts where only the imbeciles are selected for the show to reduce anyone actually winning a decent amount of money in the end. I highly doubt they are selected to make viewers feel smarter about themselves compared to these chosen morons, but if they are selected for that reason, then it's a failure on whoever came up with that idea, because it's too frustrating to watch such stupidity when you're shaking your head at how pathetic the contests intelligences are taking away any viewer enjoyment, involvment or entertainment.

I think RuPaul is a good host. He is nice enough and quite eloquent. My issue is it's so easy! It's like...for a chance to win 100k...you'd think it would be a lot harder. But I guess the rules to the game have always been the same. To be honest...I never liked the show. In my opinion...bring back password! Let Jimmy Fallon executive produce it and host! He'll get A list stars and make it so if the contestant doesn't get the money in the quick round...let the $10k or more roll over to the next round so the jackpot grows. Also...the secret word should be for $5,000 and the sane...if it's not solved it rolls over. Make sure stars and contestants do not use hands...only words to describe...remember it's not CHARADES...it's password! But do yourselves a favor...get rid of Lingo...it's sucks!

In a successful re-make of a 1980's American game show; presenter Adil Ray successfully treads the line between admonition and commiseration of contestants as they try to guess the words in a hangman-style endeavour.
With rounds containing either 4 or 5 letter words the producers take a fair approach to what's on offer - with some days producing a lot of double letter words, while others have 3 or more vowels in the mix (curse you ooze!) and you will often find yourself shouting at the TV because you believe the answer to be blindingly obvious (a point that Adil does not fail to point out in a kind manner).
In between these rounds are 9 or 10 letter offerings, with a single clue (that sometimes does not seem ideal for the answer) and a devaluation of cash offered as letters are filled in over the 10 seconds.
Overall this show provides a quality hour of entertainment with a strong cash prize that will keep the attention of both young and old alike.

Please stop Adil Ray from saying 'you are definitely going home with . . .' when contestants complete the 4 letter Lingo in the final round. They could win more money at this point. He should say 'you are definitely going home with AT LEAST . . . '. It's irritating and incorrect!!! After all, this is a word game, so they should get it right. Other than that I enjoy the show; it's lighthearted and good fun. Every episode ends up with me shouting answers at the tv. I'm sure it's easier from my armchair than it is under the lights in the studio. Maybe I should give it a go - test my own personal theory.

I think this is a great show, but I cannot bear the host Adil Ray. Seriously, I don't know how any of the contestants can concentrate on their turn while he's waffling on! He doesn't give them time to think and is constantly barking at them - He is an awful host. The show should definitely have more series, but with somebody else presenting. Stephen Mulhern would be great on this show I think.
