Do you remember the days when "Star Wars" movies used to be good? Not "Star Wars" in general -- the movies. "Andor" season 2 has barely stopped tugging our heartstrings with its grounded rebel stories, the well-received "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor" video game was released in 2023, and Marvel is dropping sweet (and often Darth Vader-themed) comics all the time. "Star Wars" as a franchise is doing just fine. The movies, on the other hand, could use a win.
It's been close to a decade since the franchise rolled out a truly worthwhile big-screen effort -- either "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016) or "The Last Jedi" (2017), depending on your opinion...

James Gunn‘s Superman landed on digital this month, and fans could not get enough of its teased fight between David Corenswet’s Superman and Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern. Although the two did not fight in the movie, the tense scene where the heroes come face-to-face has sparked a debate among fans on social media (via X). As a result, it is natural for fans to wonder whether David Corenswet’s Man of Steel can beat Guy Gardner in a fight, and here is how...

Frank Grillo had no idea who John Cena was before he was cast in “Peacemaker” Season 2, much to his son’s dismay.
The “Warrior” actor has a key role in the second season of James Gunn’s “Peacemaker” as Rick Flag Sr., the father of Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), whom Cena’s Chris Smith/Peacemaker killed in 2021’s “The Suicide Squad.” In an interview with GQ published Friday, Grillo said he knew nothing about “Peacemaker” or its star when Gunn first approached him about joining the HBO Max series.

Steven Knight may have "Peaky Blinders" and a handful of other beloved shows under his belt, but perhaps his most daring venture is a movie about a man in a car. Back in 2013, the writer/director paired up with Tom Hardy for "Locke," a one-person drama that is now considered one of the actor's best movies ever and holds a 91% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Heading down a very different kind of fury road, Hardy plays the titular Ivan Locke, the manager of a construction site that's on the verge of the largest concrete pour in Europe. Faced with the biggest day of his career, Locke suddenly finds his life is falling apart upon learning that a work colleague he had a brief affair with months ago became pregnant and is now going into labor.

The history of 2008 sci-fi misfire "Jumper," from "Edge of Tomorrow" and "The Bourne Identity" director Doug Liman, is one littered with shouldas, wouldas, and even a few couldas in its history, particularly regarding its casting. The film saw Hayden Christensen and Jamie Bell lead the way as a pair of heroes with the ability to teleport while an ancient order of hunters is led by Samuel L. Jackson. It was even teed up for a sequel that never came to pass. Speaking to MTV News (via Today), though, Liman recalled that legendary rapper Eminem was approached for a role before Christensen got the call to jump on over to the project.
"We did have a meeting. We did have conversations with Eminem," recalled Liman, who hinted it was more of a studio suggestion than someone he was actually seeking out. "At that point, I had already met Hayden and had fallen in love with Hayden,...

Tom Hardy lit the world on fire earlier this year with his performance in MobLand, but 10 years before he ever suited up in the Guy Ritchie-directed series, he starred in an underrated gangster drama that’s now streaming for free. Hardy stars alongside Taron Egerton (Smoke) and Emily Browning (A Series of Unfortunate Events) in Legend, the 2015 true crime drama following identical twins, Ronald and Reginald Kray (Hardy), who terrorize London in the 1960s. Legend has been absent from streaming for a few months, but the film is now available to watch for free with ads on YouTube. Legend earned 60% from critics and 59% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and the film failed to find major box office success, grossing only $42 million globally against a $30 million production budget.

The review embargo for Millennium Media's Red Sonja reboot has lifted, and - somewhat surprisingly - the movie has received a more positive response from critics than you might have expected following the reaction to the recent trailer.
Though only a few reviews have been added to Rotten Tomatoes so far (a score has yet to be generated), most of them are positive - although even the outlets that gave the movie a "fresh" rating do point out a few problems with the low-budget sword and sorcery adventure.
Star Matilda Lutz (Revenge) comes in for high praise for her performance as the She Devil with a Sword, but the movie is said to be let down by a clunky script and lacklustre production values - impressive practical creature FX aside.
Have a read through the reviews at the links below, and check out some new stills via the Red Sonja Instagram page.

"Warrior" walked a long and lonely road to make it on screen. It all started with the one and only Bruce Lee, who in 1971 developed a TV series that he hoped would showcase his world class martial arts skills. Called "Ah Sahm," it told the story of a Chinese immigrant in the American Old West who gets pulled into the Tong Wars of turn of the century San Francisco. Hollywood took Lee's treatment for the series and turned it into "Kung Fu," a show about a kung fu master who is decidedly not Asian.
It seemed like that was the end of "Ah Sahm" for Lee's daughter Shannon, who looked for projects that would further his legacy and not just capitalize on his image. And that's when Justin Lin, hot off of several of The Fast and the Furious's best installments, approached her about dusting off Lee's original pitch for a series.

Hollywood stars using steroids to bulk up for a role has been an open secret of the industry. Yet, fans were shocked when some actors openly admitted to using steroids in the past. Fans still debate whether Arnold Schwarzenegger was right to use medically prescribed steroids for his bodybuilding career, even though it is already in the past.
The use of steroids is a sore subject, and the studies surrounding their health effects have made fans more cautious about it. It is for this reason that stars who use them receive immense backlash, while a star like Henry Cavill is praised for not using them for his Superman body. Here are the Hollywood actors who openly admitted to using steroids.

Some days you feel like curling up on the couch, putting something on the TV, and getting your base instincts stimulated.
Shows that are heavy on violence can be pretty entertaining as the creative team devises new ways to make you recoil at the thought of being on the receiving end of what’s happening.
Violence on TV doesn’t have to be gratuitous, and enjoying it doesn’t mean you’re depraved. It can serve a bigger purpose than entertainment, elevating a show by accurately depicting certain times and places where violence was the norm.

It’s an opportunity to comment on the complex history of the human race, the progress we’ve made, and the road we must travel.
The shows in this list stand out because of their ability to use violence as art. These carefully choreographed scenes constitute a significant feat in television production.

So much of the appeal of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs is the thrash of the music. Song after song, the art-punk band found a way to convert a maelstrom of pent-up energy into no-fucks-given liberation that soundtracked a generation of teen rebellions in the aughts. The freedom to let go was fueled, in part, by the kinetic powers of frontwoman Karen O, described once for her “reckless, whirling-dervish stage demeanor.” Her form of release was to rasp and howl as loud as she wanted, and she invited anyone listening to...

Tom Hardy’s 80% Rotten Tomatoes ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Replacement Is a Sleeper Hit After Box Office Bust
It’s been a busy year for Tom Hardy thus far after starring in Gareth Evans' divisive Netflix action movie and Guy Ritchie’s new crime series, but now another recent project from the star has jumped back into the streaming spotlight. Hardy stars alongside Austin Butler and Jodie Comer in The Bikeriders, the gritty drama that's been likened to Sons of Anarchy following Kathy (Comer), a headstrong woman who finds herself in the middle of the violent storm between warring motorcycle clubs. The Bikeriders is currently streaming on Prime Video in America, but it’s one of the most popular streaming purchases on Google in countries such as Venezuela and Finland. The film earned a “Certified Fresh” 80% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 73% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, though it grossed only $36 million globally against a $40 million budget.

Per FlixPatrol, Your Friends & Neighbors continues to hold strong in the top ten streaming series list for Apple TV+. On the chart for Jul. 15, Your Friends & Neighbors currently holds the sixth place spot on the list, sitting just below Ted Lasso in fifth place, while the recently released golf comedy Stick has maintained its place at the very top of the chart.
Created by Jonathan Tropper, best known as the creator and showrunner of both 2013's Banshee and 2019's Warrior, Your Friends & Neighbors stars Hamm as Andrew "Coop" Cooper, a wealthy financier who loses his job but is unwilling to make any material changes in his life because of it. Rather than cutting back on his expenses in any meaningful way, Coop instead turns towards stealing from his similarly affluent neighbors in order to keep up appearances.

It’s time for Liam Neeson to pass on the aged action hero baton to another. While the Taken star’s continuing domination of the genre at 73 may be impressive, it’s nothing compared to this Daredevilstar who, at 86 years old, is all set to become our new favorite senior with a particular set of skills.
The Daredevil star chosen to take the lead in the first trailer for this killer new thriller is none other than acclaimed actor Scott Glenn. Alongside his role as Matt Murdock’s harsh-but-wise mentor, Stick, in the Marvel series, Glenn is best-recognized for the likes of The Right Stuff, The Silence of the Lambs, Backdraft, Training Day, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Leftovers, and more. Now, he takes on possibly his most challenging role yet as a former marine who finds himself at the center of a deadly game with a serial killer.

What makes a great sports film? Oftentimes, the assumption is that a focus on the ultra-competitiveness of the sportsmen and the story of grit is all that's needed to make it a great piece of work. When some of the best sports movies are spoken of, the likes of Creed, Rocky, and Warrior all easily come to mind, and for good reason; however, The Fighter shouldn't be far off. There is a case to be made that it has flown under the radar, but upon closer inspection, it is a worthy entry into the genre.
Originally released in 2010, The Fighter, directed by David O. Russell, starringMark Wahlbergand Christian Bale, has found a new streaming home. After all these years, it is now more accessible than ever to a new generation of viewers who might have missed the Oscar-winning film the first time around. For those of us who grew up watching Dustin Nguyen on “21 Jump Street,” seeing him back on our TV screens in recent years — most recently on Apple TV+’s “Dope Thief” — has been akin to reconnecting with an old friend. So where has Nguyen been, and how did he make his way back to Hollywood?
Turns out Nguyen had been building a busy and successful film career in Vietnam, where he had born but left as a teen (with his family in 1975 after the fall of Saigon). He first returned to the country to shoot the 2007 Vietnamese language film “The Rebel”— which became a huge blockbuster there.
“People were saying, ‘hey, you should come back here and be a part of this renaissance with the movie industry,” Nguyen recalls. “I made a decision to just move and hope for the best. I opened a production company there, and I...

“The Accountant 2” is a fun, charming action thriller. It may not be the sequel that fans of its 2016 parent film were expecting, but that is why it works. It doubles down on the electric chemistry between its stars, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, to deliver a sequel that has many of the same ingredients as the original “Accountant” but even more heart. As contradictory as it may seem to call a sequel original, “The Accountant 2” is, thanks to its combination of familial drama, intrigue and unsparing, pulse-pounding action, a unique concoction.
There are some films, however, that scratch the same itches as it. Case in point: Here are seven movies like “The Accountant 2” that you should watch next if you loved the film.

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for One Piece episode 1132.
Another week, another tragic moment in the life of Bartholomew Kuma. I have now come to the conclusion that Kuma’s backstory is the saddest flashback in One Piece’s history, and nothing will ever come close to it. It has been more than three episodes since his story began, and the One Piece character can’t seem to catch a break.
First, it was his parents’ suffering that brought him pain. Then, he took on the pain of the people of his villages. Following that, he suffered through the loss of the love of his life, Ginny, and now he is going through another tragic moment as his daughter gets diagnosed with an incurable disease.
While this twist of Bonney getting the disease that killed her mother certainly broke my heart, it did reveal a big secret about her.

Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation is still remembered as one of the best moments in Dragon Ball. @DBSKAKERU1 creates impressive fanart featuring exclusive characters and scenes, both canon and non-canon. Although Gohan rarely uses his Super Saiyan 2 form now, @DBSKAKERU1's artwork captures his combative spirit.
In the anime and manga world of Dragon Ball, Gohan is an incredibly powerful and skilled warrior who ascended to the level of Super Saiyan 2 well before anyone else could come close. A big-budget live-action adaptation of a cult Nickelodeon animated fantasy series, the return of a sports docuseries that transformed the global appeal of Formula 1, a new animated feature written by the incomparable Charlie Kaufman, and another season of a reality dating show that inspires equal parts love and hate on social media are among the standout projects hitting Netflix in February.
Netflix’s big feature release this month is the animated film Orion and the Dark, which debuts Feb. 2. Written by Charlie Kaufman, the celebrated scribe behind Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation, the film is an adaptation of Emma Yarlett’s children’s book about an anxious kid who is scared of the dark. It’s a weird month on Netflix in February; one that will probably require you to be open-minded about the shows and movies you’re willing to consume on the service.
There are quite a few library TV series arriving this month, for example. If you’re ready to start binge-watching Monk, My Wife and Kids, or acclaimed show Warrior, you’re in luck, as those complete seasons will be available. The Blacklist season 10, Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, Brooklyn Nine-Nine seasons 1-4, and Young Sheldon season 6 will also be hitting the ‘Flix.
In terms of what’s new, there’s a ton of foreign language content and true crime stuff, but original English language stuff will largely be unscripted fare like Love is Blind, which is back for a new season. There are a few bits and bobs on the way outside of that, though. Netflix’s animated movie Orion and the Dark will debut,...

Iko Uwais' debut movie Merantau poised The Raid films for success in several key ways. Released in Indonesia in 2009 and releasing internationally in 2010, Merantau follows a young man named Yuda (Uwais), who ventures from his tiny village to Jakarta and encounters a human trafficking operation. Armed only with his skills as a Silat exponent, Yuda must fight to stop the ring's overlords Ratger (Mad Koudal) and Luc (Laurent Busan) and save the captive Astri (Sisca Jessica) and her brother Adit (Yusuf Aulia).
Written and directed by Welsh-born filmmaker Gareth Evans, Merantau was a big hit, but it was his and Uwais's follow-up movie The Raid: Redemption that truly shot them both to stardom in 2012, with Evans and Uwais re-teaming again in 2014 for The Raid 2. Everything from the Bruce Lee-based series Warrior to Marvel's Daredevil has been influenced by The Raid's impact on action movies and fight choreography. However,...

But specific to HBO and HBO Max, all of the company’s scripted fiction shows where they are the lead producer (which includes Euphoria, Succession, White Lotus and more), regardless of where they shoot globally, have to adhere to the HBO Green program.

The two punching scenes in The Raid movies each have a deeper meaning relating to the two film’s stories, and this is something that many viewers miss upon first watch. Legendary thrash drummer Dave Lombardo has announced his debut album, Rites of Percussion, arriving May 5th via Ipecac Recordings. The lead single “Journey of the Host” can be streamed below.
The idea for a Lombardo solo album has origins as far back as 1998, when it was suggested by the drummer’s current Mr. Bungle bandmate Mike Patton.
“He introduced me to Tito Puente’s Top Percussion album,” Lombardo said via a press release. “I was already familiar with Tito and was a bit shocked that Patton was so musically diverse, and that he surrounded himself with musicians of the same mindset. That inspired me. I have had ideas that I’ve recorded on cassette over the years, but Patton kept insisting that I had to do a ‘drum album.’ So, the idea behind the album is years in the making. I just had to find the right time—for me—to do it.
