It has been more than a decade since Wanted hit theaters in 2008. Now, director Timur Bekmambetov has proposed making a sequel to his unique action flick, but with a new gimmick. Instead of curving bullets, the filmmaker is interested in using Screenlife technology, as seen in movies such as Unfriended and Searching, to bring forth a very different kind of assassin flick in Wanted 2.

Universal Pictures recently locked down a deal with Timur Bekmambetov to produce five movies utilizing the Screenlife technology. For those who are unfamiliar, it ditches traditional cameras and tells a story using smartphone cameras, webcams and computer screens. Bekmambetov, in speaking about the deal, explained that they could do Wanted 2 in this style. Here's what he had to say about it.

When a movie does as well at the box office as Wanted did ($341 million on a $75 million budget), a sequel is usually assured, but it’s been a long six years since that action-thriller hit theaters, and the lack of news about Wanted 2 led many to believe that the project had been laid to rest. Well, Coming Soon had a chance to speak with that film's producers and find out what the status of that film is- now that we're six years removed from the original. One of them, Marc Platt, was willing to speak candidly about where they are in that process.

His answers, though, lead me to believe that we're still at the "wait and see" stage and, with so much time having gone by, I get the feeling it would take a major development for this thing to happen.

Producer Marc Platt has offered an update on Wanted 2.

He revealed that writer Mark Millar is involved in the comic book sequel.

"We have a script that's getting pretty good," Platt told Coming Soon. "To do a sequel when it wasn't really set up for a sequel - one of our main characters dies in it.

"You don't want to just retread a similar story, but when we get the script to a certain bar, there will be a sequel. It's taken a while because it's challenging, as I said, because we lost a main, main character, so where that James McAvoy character goes now... we have good ideas though. It's coming along."

The first film was loosely based on Millar's comic book miniseries, which was set in a world where supervillains had eradicated all superheroes.

Wanted 2 keeps edging closer to actually happening, as producer Marc Platt confirms the script is "getting pretty good"...

From the earliest days of the website we seem to have been reporting on a potential sequel to 2008's surprise hit, Wanted. The original movie starred James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, with Timur Bekmambetov directing. And the first film ate up $341m at the global box office, Wanted 2 has been on the cards ever since.

However, Wanted 2 appeared to have fallen off-radar in recent years, and we'd assumed that the project had quietly been dropped. Not so though, says producer Marc Platt. One of the more entertaining action flicks I’ve seen in the last few years is Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy as bullet-bending assassins fighting for their lives. Between Bekmambetov’s visual prowess and the film’s gleeful amount of gun-firing intensity, I walked out of the film like I’d just hopped off an amusement park thrill ride, ready to give the whole ordeal another go around.

After finding box office success, producers were also keen to give the property another go, and the studio hired back original writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas to delve deeper into J.G. Jones and Mark Millar’s source comic for an even more explosive sequel – then everything went dark on Wanted 2. Ahead of this summer’s Kick-Ass 2, we spoke to producer and comic-book writer Mark Millar about sequels, C-words and more...

A sleeper hit in cinemas and hugely successful on DVD, Kick-Ass was an anarchic, blackly comic take on the superhero movie. Three years later, and the sequel’s almost finished, while in the intervening period, its trio of young stars - Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, have continued to rise in stature. So too has comic book writer Mark Millar, who’s been fortunate enough to see two of his stories - Wanted and Kick-Ass - adapted into hit films so far.

With Kick-Ass 2 set to be released this summer, Nemesis, Supercrooks, The Secret Service and Wanted 2 are all in various stages of development in their respective journey's to the big screen. It now appears as if we should add Jupiter's Legacy to that list as writer Mark Millar (who has created the book alongside artist Frank Quitely) offers us an exclusive update as to what's going on with a movie version of the upcoming Image series. Millar also reveals that he would like to see Richard Dreyfuss play 'Walter', and while he makes it clear that there haven't been any talks with the actor as of yet, the writer is sure to make this happen (take Mark Hamill's planned appearance in Matthew Vaughn's take on The Secret Service for example). Perhaps most interesting is the fact that he envisions the adaptation taking place across more than one movie.

Filmmaker Brett Ratner took a page out of Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past playbook by announcing on Twitter that Antje Traue has joined the cast of Hercules: The Thracian Wars. That tweet has since been deleted, which likely means the director jumped the gun and announced the news too early.

No details have been released as to what character the actress is portraying. She joins a cast that already includes Dwayne Johnson as Hercules, Aksel Hennie as Tydeus, Rufus Sewell as Autolycus, and Ian McShane as Amphiarus. The story follows Hercules, the son of Zeus who turns his back on the Gods. He leads a team of mercenaries who will fight anyone's battle for them, provided the price is right. The plot thickens when their latest mission becomes more complicated than anyone could imagine.

Ian McShane has joined the growing cast of Hercules for MGM Studios and director Brett Ratner.

Dwayne Johnson stars as the title character, based on the Radical Publishing graphic novels that take a different approach to the Greek god. Instead of being the son of Zeus, Hercules is a fierce mortal who is feared by many. When he leads his group of mercenaries on their latest mission, the job turns out to be much more complicated that previously imagined.

Ian McShane is playing Amphiarus, a priest, prophet, and warrior who serves as Hercules' adviser. Aksel Hennie and Rufus Sewell also star as Tydeus and Autolycus, other members of Hercules' group.

Brett Ratner is directing from a screenplay originally written by Ryan Condal (Paradise Lost), which is being polished by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Wanted 2). No production schedule was released at this time.

Rufus Sewell has signed on to star as Autolycus in MGM Studios' Hercules, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Aksel Hennie.

In the Radical Publishing comic books the movie is based on, Autolycus was the son of the messenger god Hermes. Dwayne Johnson is portraying the title character, the son of Zeus who leaves the gods behind to live in exile as a mercenary for hire, along with his six trusted companions. Hercules is put to the ultimate test that makes him question everything he once believed. Aksel Hennie is playing the axe-wielding maniac Tydeus.

Brett Ratner is directing from a screenplay by Ryan Condal (Paradise Lost), which is being revised by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Wanted 2). Brett Ratner will also produce with Beau Flynn and Radical's Barry Levine. No production schedule was given.

Hercules comes to theaters July 25th, 2014 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane. The film is directed by Brett Ratner.

Jj Abrams' "Star Trek" brought the long running franchise into the 21st century, capturing massive audiences and creating a whole new generation of Trekkies. The film was such a huge success that sequel rumors began to swirl as the credits started to roll.

Today, audiences finally have something tangible to salivate at in the form of the new "Star Trek Into Darkness" teaser trailer. The trailer is awesome, but what it represents is what is really exciting. It means that this movie is actually being made. While there are so many sequels and remakes being made in Hollywood these days, there are plenty of sequels that audiences have longed for years that fall by the wayside for any number of reasons.

There is a sequel to "The Collector", a gore-filled horror film that grossed a mere $7 million, but no sequel to "The Italian Job" a movie that grossed nearly 200 million.

Between Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies, the BBC's Sherlock, and the new CBS show Elementary, it's pretty clear that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved detective is experiencing a major comeback as of late. And since the character is technically in the public domain, there is nothing to stop someone else from launching yet another take on Holmes. Paramount Pictures is planning to remake the classic 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes. Christopher Columbus is producing the project and they are in talks with Disney DVD movie scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos to write the script for the movie. 

I loved watching this movie growing up, and it was the first movie to incorporate realistic CG animation with that awesome stained glass window Knight coming to life. The original film was produced by Steven Spielberg, directed by Barry Levinson, and written by Columbus. The story centered on Holmes and Watson after they meet at a British boarding school and stumble upon a series of mysterious deaths and murders.

According to The Wrap the new story will basically be the same thing. It follows "Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they meet as teenagers in England, and embark on a series of sleuthing adventures."

I recently showed my kids the original movie and they loved it.
