This was another film I watched without knowing anything about it. The only star I knew from it was Jackie Weaver. It's a film about 2 people with learning disabilities who marry and have a baby, and the lives they all lead. Based on a true story.
It speaks volumes about the way our society sees each other. About what normal is and should be, and that just because you're seen to have a disability, doesn't mean you can't live a better life with someone considered not to have one.
There's a huge statement n here about people who wish to be what they consider to be normal and acceptable in society, and yet they seem to have the lives most flawed and unsatisfying.
It's beautifully written and flawlessly directed and I absolutely loved it.
Shipka who plays Bea absolutely rocks the role. I'll be looking for more from her. Dash Mihok and Samantha Hyde were way down the cast list and yet their performances were so strong throughout. Hyde was flawless.
Don't miss this.

This movie is a cocktail of humor, deep feelings, anxiety, faith, romance and love. The acting of every single character is so convincing that you will instantly get absorbed into the story. The main topic is love, unconditional love. The movie breaks down existing stereotypes to show what really matters in this plane of existence. While money and good looks have always been overwhelmingly advertised in the film industry, here we are presented with two people who could be anyone's family member or neighbour. The couple is special in many different ways, primarily because they have managed to preserve their purity in a world which constantly pushes people to control one another for an hypothetical greater result. But guess what? We are all connected and in critical moments, when things get totally out of control, all we are left with is each other.

Didn't know what to expect of this movie. The title sounds good and watched in on a plane. I was so pleasantly surprised with how good it is. It's not the usual challenges a teenager will face and the cast makes everything so believable. Great acting, good script and wonderful balance of family drama, emotions, comedy and a touch of romance. There are a few times I nearly tested up. The movie is well- paced and the comedy is good too as it keeps it light hearted amidst the sadness and fry you feel for the female lead in her challenges. Highly recommend to watch and it's watchable together with your family too.

"Wildflower" is a movie based on a true story about family love and family dynamics.
The story starts kind of bumpy, but finds its rythm quickly, as it moves from the current timeline, in which Bea is in the hospital and her family along with a social worker are trying to piece together what happened, to the past as Bea herself narrates her life's story from her parents marriage to her birth, to her having to take care of them.
The movie overall is enjoyable and the pace of it was nicely handled, as to not confuse the viwer with the back and forths of the timeline. The performances were good as well.

Honestly I was surprised to see the rating on here, my friends and I thought this was a really sweet and enjoyable film. The cast works well together and there is consistent humour throughout. This is a heartwarming story about family, and if you're in the mood for a feel-good film I would recommend the watch!
It does contain some mature themes and language which means it's probably not best for young children, but I think the film handles these topics in a way that isn't gratuitous or inherently explicit. The film is not shying away from very real and human topics and I appreciate that they do not overly censor these issues, but at the same time it does not glorify them either. Wonderfully handled, tbh!

I cried 4 times, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'll do it again in a heartbeat. I will absolutely be watching this movie again, but I probably won't need to anytime soon, because it's one of those that will stick with you for a while. This movie pulls on your heart strings, while giving you that warm fuzzy feeling with its heartfelt moments. The acting is great and the soundtrack is perfect. I found myself wanting to Shazam every other song. Don't be afraid to happy/sad/whatever you feel like cry because it will be worth it. To find out that this was based off a true story made it hit even harder! Do yourself a favor and watch it now :)

Upon viewing the movie trailer, my initial expectation was a comedy, and nothing beyond that. However, what I encountered exceeded my expectations by a substantial margin.
The acting was truly exceptional, and I found it impossible to harbor any dislike for any of the characters in the film. The reason I felt this way is because each character felt incredibly genuine, and each individual was left grappling with their own distinct challenges - whether they wanted to or not. Life essentially confronted nearly every character head-on, and you could sense it; not necessarily in a negative manner all of the time, but rather in a matter-of-fact way. Nearly all of the characters involved in the storyline found themselves compelled to undergo personal development in some way as a result.
This movie also has a "feel good" aspect to it, as much it has dramatic tones. This cinematic experience goes to show how strong the bond between a family can be when they undergo challenging situations. This motion picture takes love and contempt to such lengths that it challenges the boundaries of relationships to such extents, that it ultimately serves as a heartfelt reminder that reconciliation among friends, family, or even romantic love interests is often possible - even when it all seems too late.

This was really good - just across the board good. And it's true - it's about a real family. It's very well done - we enjoyed it start to finish - but it does get better towards the end. Anyhow - excellent movie - amen. I hope more people review and bump up the ratings - because this is way better than it currently shows!!! It's sweet, it's fun, and again it's true - really enjoyed it. And that's about that. And now I'm rambling to hit my minimum character requirements - I really don't need to type 600 characters - to say whether or not I enjoyed a movie. But again - we really enjoyed this - lots of fun!

I ended up watching this movie, in part because of the positive individual reviews I read here, which seemed much more enthusiastic that the 6 rating attached to the movie, and I'm so glad I did. This was an uplifting, emotional, and funny indie drama with an earnestness that I appreciate so much. I thought the script was really well-written, weaving a story through a complex set of conditions and emotions, giving the characters weight, and interest, and complexity. I was rooting for them, and frustrated with them, and feeling compassion for them, and understanding their humanity, all from moment to moment. The casting was superb, and the performances from everyone were so solid, particularly Shipka, who is an actor of great depth, and I can't wait to see her career grow over the years. So many moments made me feel, and it's one of my favorite movies of the last decade.

500 filmflowers ive seen till now this year this is the most beautiful wildflower of them all. Its also based on a true life story, and i should really like to see a decent documentary biographical styled film about beas life and family for real...
its a simple fact that western society never have cared too much for the ''special'', ''the slow'', and the idea of letting two slow grownups having a baby would be like swearing when doing the sacraments. This story shows something different than we usually sees on film, its in fact a story too good to be true...
but it is, and the cast and direction is heavily to blaim for that, the musical score and sets and decoration managements do uphold the beauty of the caracters of this film. And the choice of cast is really ingenious. Its a film about life, love, love and love, and the magics how to live out that life of a lovelife. Its laughter, its tears, its the values of friends and family, but most of all it is a film that brings and gives hope for everyone.
So if you wanna have a nice start on your weekend then bruise your wings over this swainsong of love, even a squirrel wouldve loved this one.a big recommend from the tearful and snotty happy( for them) grumpy old man. Bravissimo.

This is a beautiful film that shows what families can and should be to each other, no matter what their abilities are. It follows the story of Bea and her intellectually challenged parents Derek and Sharon as they raise her and she raises them. It is told from her in a coma which we learn right at the very beginning but we aren't sure why she's in a coma until the very end. It definitely deserves higher praise than a 6 point something as it shows the humanity and vulnerability of human nature and human love. Excellent cast. Excellent acting. Yes there is some typical teen drama and stereotypes but overlook those things and appreciate this film for what it is.

What I loved about this film is the honesty and fearless attitude it portrayed. As a parent of a disabled person, it can feel like "can't, can't, can't" all the time, but that is a lie, and this film shows two very capable people who were lucky to have support that inspired them to "can." This film encourages while also educating others who might not know about the world of disability. The film isn't all about being disabled, but rather about every person's life challenges, and how each character relates to each other, ultimately using their shortcomings to create whole relationships and build each other up even more.

Wildflower, Matt Smukler's debut feature, follows Bea, a plainspoken teenager navigating life with neurodivergent parents. The film follows Bea's high-school drama, cheeky romance, and the struggles of her best friend and relatives. The film is inspired by Smukler's family and features a cast of distinctive characters. Kiernan Shipka leads an endearing cast in her animated portrayal of Bea, who lies comatose in a hospital bed, surrounded by worried family members. The film explores Bea's life from childhood to the recent past, narrated by her omniscient subconscious in VoiceOver. Bea's intra-family relations, resentments, and communication style are explored through flashbacks. Her feuding grandmothers Loretta and Peg, her neurotic aunt Joy, and her anxious husband Ben, are all involved in their bickering. Bea's parents, Sharon and Derek, are calm and collected, maintaining a steady faith that their daughter will wake up. Bea grew up hearing other adults describe her parents as "special," a euphemism for neurodivergent. Bea recounts how Sharon and Derek met, the rush of their marriage, and the thrill of her birth. However, everyone else, including Peg and Earl, struggle to trust their daughter to make her own decisions. Loretta, Derek's mother, harbors animus for Sharon's family but seems less fazed. There is an unacknowledged but suffocating assumption that the new parents simply can't do it. Wildflower is a film that reinterprets the experiences of disabled characters through the perspective of a child turned caretaker, Bea. The film follows Bea's journey from her early years in a mobile community to her senior year in Las Vegas, where she learns valuable lessons about her parents and their neurotypical lens.
Bea's early years are filled with adventure and freedom, but her exposure to life outside her immediate family leads to a decrease in her tolerance for Sharon and Derek. She reads their laid-back attitude as clumsy and finds their carefree approach frustrating. After a driving lesson goes wrong, Bea is sent to live with her aunt Joy and Ben, who teach her skills she missed out on but annoys her. Wildflower quickly moves on to Bea's senior year, where she hawks school raffle tickets with her best friend Mia, hoping to win a free trip to Disney. Her attitude changes, but she still has a renewed appreciation for her parents. The film gains momentum when it settles into Bea's recent past, chronicling her romance with Ethan, a fight with Mia, her guidance counselor's insistence on college application, and a petty feud with their high school's resident mean girl. The film highlights Bea's struggle to overcome her condescending relationship with her parents and everyone around her. When she starts to see them in the same light as the rest of the world, she overcompensates by turning herself into a caretaker, resurfacing childhood resentments and revealing hard-to-swallow truths. The film culminates in a tumultuous blow-up, but relationships are repaired, amends made, and Bea learns valuable lessons along the way.

Usually movies with amazing ensemble cast manage to blow it. Sad but I have seen it too many times. I went into this with high hopes and low expectations!
The cast is insane! Some of the top actors, favorites of mine for sure coupled with a great story! My heart was swelling one minute and broken the next!
Little Sally from Mad Men just keeps proving herself! Dash Mihock, damn, he is a good looking guy! Actor I would most like to go on a date with. I think he would be a lot of fun. Jackie Weaver at her best, funny and enrolling in her special brand of humor. I don't know the actress who played B's Mom and she was so relatable. Big heart, and sidetracked. By buddy Brad Garrett, always pulls his weight. Dependable, stand up kind of guy and it comes across on the screen that he can be counted on to give a solid performance. Charlie Plummer, up and coming hunk! And of course the creme de la creme, Jean Smart! Along with Alexandria Daddario, 2 of the most beautiful women on the screen!
I think they got this level of talent because the story is so touching. I was touched! I was in love with everyone! It was like doing shrooms without the shrooms. It was the same story that people go through growing up and even the twist were relatable. My parents were both geniuses and yet the same feelings prevailed. It's normal life, no matter who is living it.
I hope you watch this movie and enjoy it as much as I did.

"Wildflower." Just the name itself conjures up images of untamed beauty, resilience, and a quiet, persistent strength. And that's exactly what this film delivers, but with a raw, heart-wrenching honesty that left me breathless. It's a 9 out of 10 for a reason, and that one point withheld is less about any inherent flaw and more about the sheer emotional toll it takes.
Kiernan Shipka, as Bea, is nothing short of a revelation. She breathes life into a character burdened by circumstances most of us can't even fathom: navigating adolescence while caring for parents with intellectual disabilities. It's a performance that transcends mere acting; it's a visceral experience. You feel her frustration, her love, her desperate yearning for a normal life, all tangled together in a knot of fierce determination.
The film doesn't shy away from the complexities of Bea's situation. It doesn't paint her parents as saccharine figures, nor does it demonize the challenges they present. Instead, it offers a nuanced portrait of love, responsibility, and the messy, often painful realities of family. The moments of tender affection are juxtaposed with the harsh, everyday struggles, creating a tapestry of emotions that feels profoundly real.
What struck me most was the film's refusal to offer easy answers. It doesn't wrap everything up in a neat, tidy bow. Life, as "Wildflower" reminds us, is rarely that simple. Bea's journey is ongoing, a constant negotiation between her own desires and the needs of those she loves. It's a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the ability to find beauty and hope amidst chaos.
The supporting cast, particularly Jean Smart and Jacki Weaver, provides a grounding presence, adding layers of depth and complexity to the narrative. Their characters, flawed and well-meaning, represent the often-conflicting forces that shape Bea's world.
Why not a perfect 10? Because the film's emotional intensity can be overwhelming. There are moments that are genuinely difficult to watch, scenes that linger in your mind long after the credits roll. It's not a film you watch for escapism; it's a film you experience, a film that forces you to confront the uncomfortable truths about love, sacrifice, and the often-unseen burdens carried by those we deem "different."
"Wildflower" is a film that blossoms in the most unexpected places, a testament to the resilience of the human heart. It's a reminder that even in the face of immense adversity, beauty and strength can still flourish. It's a film that stays with you, a quiet whisper of hope that resonates long after the final scene fades to black. A truly moving piece of cinema."

This is the story of Bea, a girl grown up in a joyful but peculiar family, who must take care of her parents and find a way to live her life fully.
Wildflower is a beautiful feel-good coming-of-age drama/comedy, with a solid plot. This movie really gives you emotions and puts at his core family and friendship in a critical but optimistic way, something that happens less and less in films nowadays.
Bea has not an easy life, but with her efforts she always finds the way to overcome difficulties and remain positive: this is a strong message that needs to be stressed more in our hard times. And it's not stereotypical.
The cast is amazing, from Kiernan Shipka, who portrays the main character, to the supporting ones.
It's a rare gem in a sea of nonsense and overboring contents. Watch it!

Told as a look back on our protagonists life, this narrative device can easily go wrong but it fits here. The amount of setup would be otherwise overwhelming. This allows a slow reveal as to who her parents are, who they are as people, refusing the help of their parents when taking help would be the easy path. It works well.
We skip quickly over her childhood and go straight towards her final high school years resulting in a heartwarming coming of age story.
That this is based on a true story adds all the more to the punch of what she has to overcome and the uniqueness of her struggle to achieve a normal life, where we discover together that normal is what you make it to be.
