Alas or Ayyo! Just when you thought director Ravichandran couldn't sink lower than that 'Apoorva' disaster, this 'Ravi Boppana' comes along to give company and snag the title as Worst pro maga. I was seriously living in denial, pretending that after 'Apoorva,' our man had finally hung up his directorial boots. Even that OTT release, 'Kannadiga' (2021), a well deserved zero hype film, and it took me weeks to even notice it existed. And when I finally did, it was the same old formulaic garbage, so badly written I fast-forwarded through 90% of it and still felt like I wasted 30 minutes.
Back in the day, crazy star Ravichandran has churned out many hits, full of that creative, subliminal sensuality with sophisticated grand sets. He made so many fans happy, not just here but all over the world, with those classic films. And let's not forget his recent streak of justifying those character roles in remakes - 'Dashamukha,' 'Drishya,' 'Maanikya,' 'Aa Drushya'. But let's be real, as a director, he's clearly run out of juice. This 'Ravi Boppana' smells like he's just indulging himself again, reeking of hedonism. What pisses me off the most is how hard he's trying to stay relevant, completely butchering the source material 'Joseph' (2018). And don't even get me started on 'Crazy Star' (2014), that terrible remake of 'Traffic' (2011) - direct to the dustbin!
Coming back, Ravichandran has summoned his lobotomized alter ego, whose only job is to spew whatever random thoughts are bouncing around his empty head. "Life is this, life is that," some man-child whining about his inner struggles, and these big, philosophical speeches about his "creativity."
What's worse is having to endure his pseudo-intellectual babbling, those creepy heroine shots where the camera's all over her like some pervert with a cheap camcorder, like trying to pull off a poor version of close-ups from Jonathan Demme films, or that weird zoom-in thing Hong Sang-soo does (sorry for that horrible comparison, but my brain needed to put this trash somewhere). He's trying so hard to look all sad and deep, trying to convince us he's got some existential crisis going on. It's just the tiredness of a 61-year-old throwing a tantrum, acting all narcissistic and clinging to this idea that he's crazy, he's right, and the audience can go take a hike. Even Kiccha Sudeep's hyped-up role in the climax is a big zero; by the time it ends, you just want to quickly forget everything.
Like I said, this whole movie just screams "look at me, I'm still edgy and relevant!" It's so full of cringe, it's unbearable. If you want to break up with your girlfriend, wife, whoever - just take them to this movie, or play that "Le Ley Bopanna" song on repeat. It's torture, I tell you! Sometimes it felt like I was in a massage parlor, all relaxed while my neck was cracking from watching the cringe unfold. Total flop, I really wanted to like this film, but my eyes and brain refused. I sincerely hope Ravichandran never stumbles upon the works of Jean-Claude Brisseau, Slavoj Zizek, João César Monteiro, or even Antonin Artaud's poems. Knowing him, he'll just lift it all and make an even bigger disaster next time.
50 years of Eswari Productions, so many hits, it's all about tastes and moments, but you can't deny the long and brilliant career. But this movie? It's a disgrace, man. It worries me to see such a big name going down like this. I really hope Ravichandran can snap out of this creative slump or just start taking roles that suit his age. Enough of this trying-to-be-pseudo-intellect-seen-it-all-know-it-all-ekangi-and-hippie nonsense!

The only good thing I liked about this movie is the few seconds of the house with a view of the river. For the most part this is a cringefest. Appears like a desperate attempt by Ravichandran to stay relevant as an action hero. Not worth visiting the theater. There are hardly 30 people here to watch this. And everybody is sitting due to the sunk cost fallacy. Do not waste your time when it comes on the OTT as well. Not sure how this got over 8/10 as of writing this review.
The film is official remake of Malayalam file by name Joseph. When we have something as reference why and how can we make such a bad movie ? I never understood this .
Kannada movie is stuck with Heroism from many many years and film like this gives a bad impression to non Kannada viewers . To whom we are making these kind of movies ? This movie dont have any potential to show the Kannada cinema to pan India .
I feel bad about this . Kannada film industry should stop making heroism based movies . Please stop making such films . If you want to do a remake why can't just do how the original film was made ? The original film Joseph is made so nicely ?
Why we even bad at copying ?

What the hell is wrong with Ravichandran... he still not learning his mistakes. Drishyam 1 & 2 was good coz they literally remake a movie as it is. What was wrong with Joseph??? This is the worst remake and made just to hype "Ravichandran" and his lover boy character. He is 61 guys his romance looks cringe on the screen... Yakro olle movie & story nim ego, buildupgoskara haal madthira?? If you watch Joesph then avoid this. I pity on KFI especially Ravichandran.
