Not even mediocre

Do you know those English language video lessons sketches? That people dub Oblivion music over? That's the level of acting in this movie. The main actor especially, speaks like a text-to-speech program and shows the same range of emotion.

The script and dialogue seems alright at first, but the cast has no chemistry at all. Then things take a nosedive - dialogue goes from weird to just disjointed in relation to what is happening - for example one hour into the movie they still deny anything supernatural.

The scares are the tired old loud noises and doors banging stuff. All the sets and props - house, office, hospital, outside shots - they looks so sterile, as if you are watching a commercial and not a real living and breathing world captured on camera.

The demon is just a copy-paste Creature of the Black Lagoon or Stranger Things season 4 type of deal. Of course done way,way cheaper and goofy looking. A demon from "Wish" as the kids say.

Overall a bad movie with no redeeming qualities. Can't kill time with it, can't enjoy it in a so-bad-it's-good kind of way either. Stay away no matter how desperate you think you are for a supernatural horror flick.

Terrible and boring!

Nothing happens! Nothing! No monster payoff, nothing scary, just nothing! Horrible writing! How does this even qualify as horror? It should be called a drama at best.

I'd rather watch paint dry.

Terrible acting by all. The monster did the best acting ffs. Anyone who gave this a good review must have been paid, family member, was their first movie or they have an IQ of 54 or less. Daddy's boss did the acting.

You can save this one with a remake.

This movie started perfect. But then the writers got stupid and forgot it's a fictional movie not reality. Started perfect until the point where the demon arrives. Upon the wife seeing the demon and running to get a knife, hearing his wife shriek the husband rushes towards her calling out in the house for his wife but unbelievably she doesn't hear or answer back to his calls even though she sees a demon sitting at the table. Then shortly after their daughter shrieks in terror but the parents only walk towards the bedroom where there young daughter is about to fall out a window. The horror movie cliche of a door slamming shut when they arrive frustrates the viewer even more. The ghost buster or demon buster later in the show is called in but at one point stands in a circle ⭕ in the homeowners kitchen while bedlam is going on all over the house. The movie writers forgot all about her being in the script. They aso completely forget that the movie character reveals that a similar horror case took place in the town. A priest was called in to save the victim. So in the end why wasn't a priest or exorcist called to help. Instead the Father is taken to a looney bin. Ruining the movie ending completely also. That said (and it was more clownery in this movie to add) this movie could have been very good if the storyline remembered it's a fiction horror movie so make it believable in the world of fictional horror. Finally, I will finish with the demon guy. It's never impressive to have a guy in a rubber suit playing a supposedly scary demon villain in a horror movie.

If you have time to spent for nothing...

Nothing spetial. Any "surprise" element. Good horror should have it.

Like I already wrote, you can watch it, only if you have time, and nothig better to do.

Mediocre

Okay story but the acting and the dialogue was cringe and weird multiple times. There's some weird interactions happening, like when they enter the hospital the dad is yelling for a doctor (which makes sense seeing as his child is unresponsive) and the nurse is offended by that; "you don't need to yell... we always take care of her." Then later the doctor and nurse are discussing a previous similar case to that of the child, and the nurse says "well they were best friends." How does she know?? They're 7 year olds, how would she know who their best friends are? Also, of course the first and only person to die in this movie was the one POC in it...

Lastly, the true horror in this movie is corporate America: Mike's boss not caring that he is taking many days off because his daughter is sick and making him choose between his job and his family.

Horrendous!

How is it possible for anyone with an IQ over 100 to put this together for viewing? Their reactions to danger was atrocious, and of course the first person killed is ummmm, welll, the bbbblack guy. I'd stopped watching movies created post covid for this reason, where I guess I deserve this, but come on now, this is just cruel entertainment, hmmmm? Maybe that should be the name of this genre "cruel entertainment" or "post-covid". Prime movies and Diego Silva Acevedo...shame..shame!

A joke

This movie has nothing to offer at all. The acting was horrible , all actors. The script was weak and the special effects were bought at Spirit Halloween store. Who bankrolls this crap? The directors rich aunt?

Low key demonic stalking...

The 2022 horror movie "Hunting Souls" from writer and director Diego Silva Acevedo was a movie that I hadn't heard about prior to getting to sit down and watch it. I must admit that I was drawn in by the movie's cover/poster art, and the fact that it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen.

While "Hunting Souls" was watchable, it was also a movie that was lingering on the threshold of being an ultimately bad low budget horror movie. I mean, the concept idea here was adequate, although very, very generic. And Diego Silva Acevedo was essentially playing on every stereotypical trope that these demonic stalking movies tend to share. But hey, at least you know what you are getting here.

The acting performances in "Hunting Souls" were for the most parts of the movie fair enough. However, here and there throughout the course of the movie there acting performances and dialogue so cringeworthy that you just stop dead in your track and shake your head in disbelief. These moments were horrible and sort of made the movie feel somewhat of a rollercoaster ride.

Now, I wasn't familiar with the cast in the movie, and that is something I tend to enjoy when I sit down to watch movies. And it was adequate enough in "Hunting Souls", despite the fact that some of the dialogue and performances were perplexingly horrible to bear witness to.

Visually then "Hunting Souls" was adequate. I mean, the demonic entity was low budget for sure. I mean, you have a guy dressed up in a latex body suit that is made slick with some kind of lubricant. Yeah, that just doesn't scream creature from the depths of Hell.

For a horror movie then "Hunting Souls" was pretty straight forward. It was generic and pretty much followed the how-to-make-a-demonic-stalking-movie blueprint to the letter. It wasn't a scary movie, not even in the least bit. Then there was the ending of the movie. While I will not spoil anything here, I just have to say that the ending was pretty bad.

My rating of "Hunting Souls" lands on a four out of ten stars. There are far better movies of a similar type out there, so this movie is not something I would recommend you rush out to get your hands on.

Don't waste your time

The plot holes in this waste of time are endless. Entire premise is garbage and completely unbelievable. You could spend the entire length of this film picking out all the things that don't make sense which nobody ever questions. Like a kindergartener who can't read or write apparently but is writing a phrase with no adults around and her mom's like "why did you do this?" Duh, you said she can't read or write? And yet no one asks through the entire movie what the phrase is supposed to mean or why it's even relevant... And when it ends up being scrawled across a bedroom wall, they just shrug and try to clean it off as if someone smeared dirt on the wall. That's just one example. There are countless inconsistent and incredulous moments just like this.

The demon looks like somebody picked up a 2 bit Halloween costume. Acting is terrible and characters are flat out annoying. And the ending makes zero sense leaving you saying Wtf? I can't believe someone wasted money making this crap. I want my hour and a half back.

JUST AWFUL !

Hi folks ! Do yourself a big favor and pass on this ridiculous film. I watch a lot of horror movies, and this movie is among the worst I've seen. The acting is atrocious by everyone in it. The storyline took a turn into a complex theory that was completely butchered. Some psychologist suddenly becomes an expert in the supernatural. The actual demon is laughable and I was hoping he'd take everyone back to where he came from ! It was boring, unimaginative, and not scary. I like cheesy B movies, but this movie isn't even worthy of a B rating. I couldn't wait for it to end. Stay away from this one.

Very watchable, but Not recommendable

This film follows the standard plot pattern of a possesssed house or person with the target family initially disbelievers. The movie has a subplot with another family having just experienced the same "symptoms." But about all we can glean is that the child died and the father has a heart attack (could it related to the other mysterious going's-on?) The police and social workers add a new thread, but like the first family, there's no further development. Like the genre's standard plot, a family friend suggests they talk to an uncredentialed dream interpretation therapist. When the family hears what she has to say, which w compasses much more than dreams, the bumpy and fast moving conclusion begins. And about 10 minutes later we're looking at credits.

Talk about so called "horror" movie! It is so silly I was amazed (in a bad way)!

The evil entity was slimy enough and looked rather similar to many other actually scary monsters. The young child was the best actor of the bunch. (Great under water scene, which is why I gave it a two. Not a spoiler.) Child also showed superior intelligence at 1 hour 23 minutes. I don't know who she inherited her brain from, certainly not the parents. Maybe she was adopted. This could be a sort of spoiler: A ROPE, what? I have seen a few thousand horror movies in my almost 77 years, fan since I was allowed to see my first one when I was 10 and that was a first, you will know what I mean, if you make it that far. As expected in a horror movie, plenty of dead people, mostly due to stupidity. I watched the whole thing so I could review it fairly.

Very entertaining

I lliked a lot! It's an horror movie with a different rythm. Its faster than other ones and it's worth to take a look. The demon and the filmage has good quality so I didn't regret. I guess the acting it's ok too. At the ending, the movie gets a lot better and more interesting.

Rough draft or schizo couple

I watched this on a streaming platform nearly a week ago. Very eerie as horror movies should be. The acting was good enough by aal but the lady from social services. But it seemed to be pre-edit copy, meant to be viewed by the producers for editing suggestions. The couple, although played very well by these well-seasoned actors, seemed to had multi-personalities. And, like so many horror, sci-fi & thriller movies, the couple doesn't communicate, but these people took that to extreme, not sharing with each other even after witnessing the spookiest experiences & sightings, things that real people would evacuate the premises, at least for the night for. I feel sorry for the little girls who play Sophie, this being the debut for one of them, who performed their scenes as their role demanded. I sincerely hope the copy I saw was a rough draft, & the final story was evened out.

A different type of horror movie

Diego's hard work is showing up in this film. To know that he did most of the post project solo is truly remarkable. This film really should not be rated R. It's what I like to call a family horror film. It had very intense moments but doesn't leave you feeling like Evil has remained. It is every parents story of fighting the influence of the world to save their child. The demon represents the world stealing the most pure energy upon the earth, that of a child. What wouldn't you give for your child?

Ok movie

I love all horror movies. Good or Bad. I watched this movie for Chloe and Sophia the twins that played Sophia in the movie. I was a fan of theirs in the Walking dead and so I wanted to see them in this. The movie just jumped right in to what was happening with no lead up. In some cases that's bad and you get a little lost with the movie. The father in the movie I have seen in other movies he was usually good but ok terrible acting in this one. Got to hand it to Chloe and Sophia though. They are just getting started and are still learning so I thought they did pretty good. And I thought the mom was good in it too. The twins were on the Walking Dead when they were so young and didn't have any lines. I saw them have one I think when they got older. I look forward to them doing more and growing.
