This is based on a well-known Japanese children's story "Gon-gitsune", one of the masterpieces of Nankichi Niimi. Niimi was known as the Hans Christian Andersen of Japan. Gon-gitsune is his most famous work, and he wrote it when he was only seventeen years old.
