I had not heard about this 2022 Indonesian movie before now in 2023, as I happened to stumble upon the movie by random chance. Nor did I know that it was in fact a remake of the 2013 South Korean movie "7-Beon-Bang-Ui Seon-Mul".
Regardless, since "Miracle in Cell No. 7" was an Asian movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and watch it.
Initially I was a little bit put off by the 145 minute playtime of the movie, as it seemed a bit long for a drama. But still, I opted to what director Hanung Bramantyo had to offer. And I am glad I did, because "Miracle in Cell No. 7" turned out to be a rather nice, beautiful and enjoyable movie.
The storyline told in the movie, as written by Alim Sudio and Hwan-kyung Lee, is one that definitely sinks in and stays with you. It is a very emotional and beautiful story. And the writers really managed to create some memorable characters and put together a storyline that fully sweeps you off of your feet.
The acting performances in the movie were good, and I was especially impressed with the performance of Vino G. Bastian in the leading role as Dodo Rozak.
And I have to say that the 145 minute runtime turned out to pass by pretty quickly, because director Hanung Bramantyo was pretty good at doing what was required.
If you enjoy emotional dramas that hit home and sticks with you for a long time, then "Miracle in Cell No. 7" is definitely a movie you should sit down and watch. I was genuinely and wholeheartedly entertained throughout the entire movie.
My rating of "Miracle in Cell No. 7" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

A great emotional movie. A true journey and carousel as you go from laughing to crying to laughing all over. The actors are impeccable, the story is very well followed, it captivates you and leaves you with a wonderful impression that kindness it still exists amongst people.
This is a movie for the people who believe in love, grater than any other feeling. The relationship between Memo and his daughter is special and amazing, the girl is very smart and the father very loving and protecting.

I'm was in low expectation when a company invited for movie gathering in a theater. And it was true, the movie itself overlong, another telenovela style
with polished handsome , cute pretty main actors/actresses. I walked out theater almost end of the movie because boring as ever. If you like a soapy telenovela, you'll loved this. I recommend Ngeri Ngeri Sedap which is more original, great acting and story than this Miracle in Cell No.7 Indonesian version. It's torturing boring drama. The director must change his formula, as it was the same level as his another movies. Sorry , even KKN Desa Penari looks entertain than this movie.
Miracle in Cell No. 7 isn't the kind of film you just casually watch. It's the kind that grabs your emotions, plays with them, and leaves you sitting there like... wow. You don't see it coming-but when it hits, it really hits.
The father and daughter duo? Just beautiful. Especially the dad. Watching a mentally challenged man try to survive in a system built to break people is hard enough, but the love he had for his daughter? That's what wrecks you. And you start imagining what it must feel like to be him-and honestly, it's heartbreaking.
There were moments that just got me. Like when the other prisoners tried to help him tell his side of the story... that part honestly made me tear up. These were guys who had no reason to care, yet they listened, they helped, they actually believed in him. And the balloon escape scene? That was deep. They were ready to risk it all-not for themselves, but for him.
And I can't forget when his little girl came into the prison to see him. That scene? Man. That was everything. Pure emotion.
This movie made me think. Not just about the characters, but about real life. About people out there dealing with mental or emotional struggles, misunderstood and ignored. And it really made me ask: What can I do to help people like that?
If you're looking for something light and fun-this ain't it. But if you're okay with a film that'll break your heart in the best kind of way and remind you what real love and sacrifice look like... then go watch Miracle in Cell No. 7. Just be ready to cry.

- TriviaEvery body movement that Vino makes as autistic has been consulted with a psychologist.
- ErroresIn the final hearing scene, the judge mentioned that Dodo's birthyear was in 1982. Meanwhile, the event when Dodo was accused for Melati's death was happened in 2002. So, Dodo was 20 years old when that happened. It's impossible for a 20-years-old guy had a 7-years-old daughter.
