As a Hong Kong Film Critic myself, this is one of the most anticipated Thai film for years as I noticed there are two up and coming film directors from Thailand shining the world. Of course, Mr. Wong Kar-Wai saw the same thing and took one step farther to produce Thai film. It happened once again after Mr. Peter Chan produced "Sam gang (2002)", while I started my career as film critic in which I didn't understand at that time. 20+ years later, Korean and Thai film are already bypassed HK movie and take over Asian market, so what's happen? I finally understood the situation of HK Movie Industry when I got in. Anyway, Mr. Wong Kar-Wai shown the world Thai ver. Of "See You Tomorrow (2016)", also shown the world Hong Kong Film Producer can push to next level.
An uneven road trip with not so compelling characters and an overly sentimental plot. Especially in the first half. Fortunately, it's getting better in the second half when the film finally gets a more clear point of view. Should use some trimming to make it tighter and lose some of its unnecessary narrative fat.
Even the movie is not perfect 100% But i feel the improve of thai movie and it's an gdh movie!!!! Mr. Bas Nathawut still show us a cool movie that he directed since bad genius.
At first, the boss seems like a nasty guy. But as the narrative progresses, it becomes clear that he is genuinely a devoted friend, particularly to Aood. It has some unnecessary narrative, but the storytelling is still great. The dramatic journey of Aood and Boss has me feeling deeply moved. It's certainly not all that smooth; there are definitely some bumps along the way. Every person that they cared about is depicted in the movie with a variety of situations and feelings. Although it's not as sad as I thought it would be, this movie is nonetheless very touching and heartwarming. Besides, I enjoy the soundtracks and color grading!
One for the Road is full of nostalgia as multiple genres come together including romance, buddy film, as well as sex-positive melodrama. The film had a wonderful soundtrack with some Cat Stevens music along with several mainstream hits, a strong production design, and a lovely mise-en-scene with exquisite cinematography and a touch of colorization. One For the Road follows a young Thai man, who is dying from cancer and has decided to make his final amends by delivering a parting gift to those closest to him on the earthly plane.
One For The Road is very visual, very visceral, and one I was sad to see it end after 136 minutes. But end it did and as the credits began to roll, there it was - a title revealing "Produced by Wong Kar Wai" - "... a filmmaker who specializes in making the evanescent tangible, in capturing fleeting emotions in a style that is always poetic, often ravishing and, despite his films' surface-level dreaminess, unerringly precise." I'm a huge fan of Mr. Wong's work so all I could do in that moment was sit and smile. What a wonderful gift. (Wong and Director Baz Poonpiriya worked together on One For The Road for three years.)
Director Baz Poonpiriya, a strong storyteller who has come into his own, had previously helmed Bad Genius the 2017 Thai box-office smashing and the record-breaking winner of twelve categories at the 27th Suphannahong National Film Awards (the Thai Oscars), before embarking on One For The Road with Wong. If you're a fan of Wong, this is a film you don't want to miss. And, if you're a fan of Thai film (Apichatpong Weerasethakul's 2010 Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives turned me on to Thai film), it's a must-see! Lastly, if you simply enjoy exquisitely told films, I highly recommend you see Baz Poonpiriya's One For The Road!

¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaThe film was simply divided into chapters, guided by cassettes in the car; A-side and then B-side. The main characters' names "Aood" and "Boss" purposely resemble A and B sides on the casettes
