I sat down to watch the 2021 horror/thriller "Girl Next" from writers Zeph E. Daniel and Michael Muscal without ever having heard about the movie. But I must say that the movie's cover/poster seemed interesting, and of course the fact that the the movie was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen made me want to watch it as well.
Well, I gave it a shot, and made it about halfway through, then I just gave up out of sheer and utter boredom. Man, this movie was a swing and a miss from director Larry Wade Carrell. It felt like an art project gone wrong, and as if you were tripping on a bad batch of mushrooms while watching it.
The storyline told in "Girl Next" certainly had pontential, I will say that much, but it quickly fell to the ground and never recovered, as writers Zeph E. Daniel and Michael Muscal took the story into some kind of psychadelic rollercoaster ride.
The acting in the movie was actually fair enough, despite the fact that the actors and actresses virtually had nothing solid or wholehearted to work with. Marcus Jean Pirae (playing Heinrich) and Paula Marcenaro Solinger (playing Misha) carried the movie well enough with their performances.
"Girl Next" fell short of providing me with much of any enjoyment or entertainment. And I wasn't fan of that whole pseudo-drug vision that the movie had going on.
My rating of "Girl Next" lands on a mere three out of ten stars.

I'm a simple man with simple tastes. I love me a good exploitation movie. The premise really piqued my interest. This movie was god awful.
It had some cool concepts like weird drugs and a secret organization, but it never really explained any of it. The process of brainwashing the woman was poorly executed and bland. The r@pe scenes were lackluster and uninspired. I've never seen a r@pe scene where both actors just looked bored. I know I sure was. The antagonists were amusingly over the top, but the schtick got old long before the closing credits. There are a couple of good gore scenes, but they aren't worth sitting through this movie. The lead actress was attractive, but not worth sitting through this movie. Someone gave me 1 million dollars, but it wasn't worth sitting through this movie.
I almost quit watching about an hour in. I wish I had, because there was another 42 minutes after that. This movie was a mess. This movie was boring. This movie was bad, but not in a "so bad it's good way". It was just bad. A truly horrific t0rture scene would have been if the bad guys tied up the woman and made her watch this movie.

A terrible mix of torture porn, necrophilia, bad acting and a really bad LSD trip.
Way too predictable a story, poor characters and editing.
Baffled as to how and why it was made.

Don't believe currently high rating. This "movie" is absolute trash and waste of you precious time. I hate myself that I saw it. All those who created it should be banned from the film industry altogether.

This movie definitely had potential, but ended up a letdown. The story was decent but lost me with the whole fantasy/hallucination world. It would've been so much better without that. I found myself forwarding through most of those scenes that added nothing to the film.

I just saw 10 minutes of this garbage of movie and that was enough for me. Poor acting and bad pictures. Ridiculously low budget and not scary one bit. Bored is the kind of word a filmmaker never wants to hear from their audience. Hard pass.

The worst movie I've watched lately. Keeping to the end turned out to be a concrete feat. Two stars for the fact that I managed to keep to the end. I wonder about such a high rating that prompted me to watch. Could it be trolling...

Girl Next offers a lot of tension with not quite enough release.
It deals with the very disturbing topic of sex trafficking... which is a difficult subject to make entertaining. I found myself disturbed (as I should) and whenever the plot turned toward a favorable outcome I still felt a lack of release. Maybe that's the point. Just like the victim of sex trafficking, the viewer is never the same afterwards.
The cinematography reminds me a lot of Kubrick. I'd say it is a combination of "Clockwork Orange," "Blue Velvet" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." There are also similarities to "Eyes Wide Shut" in that we find that the whole elaborate set up was planned in advance.
It's shocking and disturbing while still remaining intellectual. There are components of spirituality, theoretical physics and supernatural phenomenon mixed in with the blood, graphic violence, kinky sex and gore.
Some might find it "too" disturbing... but it's horror. If you are disturbed that just means it's scary.

If you where a fly on a wall for just one abduction case, this is what it might look like.
Despite all the fabulous face peeling schlocky gore, there is something realistic about this film. That 'something' needs to be shown and discussed more. This is a brave film.

Comforting to know that in a world of electronic cars, green power, vaccine passports, and nuclear spills ... really bad low budget films have not changed much since the 1950s. Color or B&W, watch with audio on or off, you still end up with an incoherent mess.

These other reviews harping on with words like 'Awesome', 'Clever' and 'Re-watchable' ... But so few contain the words 'B-GRADE CRAPOLA!'
Like seriousy, I just wasted 7 bucks hiring this monstrosity because another bunch of indie film makers got all their friends to write positive reviews for their trainwreck of a movie. The plot was beyond ridiculous and the acting was just plain unconvincing. I gave the film one star because the cinematography was decent (albeit wasted on this trash).
I kept checking how long it had left to go because the story was soooo tedious and I was looking forward to the end so I could write an actual GENUINE review.
Like, golly - I wonder why no reputable film critics have bothered to review this movie..? Hmm.

The idea sounded quite interesting but the execution is so poor. Terrible directing and the actors are all god awful. Mostly felt embarrassed watching this.

It gives you the feeling that you will watch a quality thriller in the first minutes. But then it becomes a simple movie that hides behind exaggerated bloody scenes and eroticism. It's a completely empty and simple movie.

This could have been a great film. The problem is that it tried way too hard to make itself look smart and psychedelic. It was like watching a freshman book report. The student thinks they are so clever and groundbreaking, but are actually amateurish. The acting was very good, however. I will give it that. And the concept was good. But it tried way too hard.

Holy s$!t!!! Where did this little mind twister come from?
What starts as a pretty trite #MeToo like narrative, quickly dissolve into glorious surrealism and ultimately madness.
Seriously, it's like watching one of those creatively drug fueled exploitation films from the 70s only it's right here smackdab in the middle of the PC. Center that is the 21th century.
If you like it messy, go watch this ASAP.

Girl Next was like watching 4 movies on one. The story of a woman being trafficked, smoothly goes into cloning and chemically created personalities. Then switches to a few perverse relationships. Ending in a way I never saw coming. This is a strong indie movie.

Didn't recognise any of the actors in this, and it seems to be a low budget film. If you are into the 70s films of blood and gore, this film would suit you. But if you want to be entertained, choose another film.

Couldn't wait for the Crap D'Or to end. Bad everything. I couldn't believe what I was watching, while I was watching it. Don't even think about giving it a try.

I had to watch it just to lose sight of what I've seen before.
