WordGirl's character, backstory and powers are similar to Superman/Clark Kent. They both came to earth from a distant planet and crashed landed on earth and near a metropolis that they would call home, as well as being raised by a family there. They both protect their city from villains and they both have the same weakness which is physical contact with a substance from their home planets.
According to Tom Kenny, each character, hero or villain, has an obsession about their themes & something that they like.
The Butcher, Chuck the Evil Sandwich-Making Guy, Captain Tangent, Big Left Hand Guy, The Coach, The Whammer and Granny May are, thus far, the only villains in the show that are wholly original and not based off any DC, Marvel or any other literary characters.
Whenever Victoria Best plays her recorder to mesmerize other people, the tune that plays is slightly reminiscent of The Twilight Zone theme.
The first season of WordGirl used traditional hand-drawn animation, while the rest of the seasons used computerized animation.
