Jimmy O. Yang: Good Deal

Big fan of HBO Silicon Valley and read his book which was great so had high hopes. I'm Asian and I felt like I should have laughed more. I chuckled a couple times and one time I laughed, but otherwise I thought it fell short. Not cringe like TJ Miller's attempt on HBO, but not especially laugh out loud. If you are a fan of SV then you should give it a try but for me I wouldn't watch it again.

Lol I relate so hard to this stand-up because I've never watched a HK-American stand-up comedian before. I felt like we lived similar lives because I related to almost everything he talked about. I actually laughed out loud several times but it was only because I was canto and I understood the joke. I understand why many people wouldn't find his stand-up funny because they were all based off of being canto and american. He also is not a very facially expressive person, like Ken Jeong is. It was not the most funny stand-up I've ever watched but I would say it was the most relatable, as a HK immigrant, and it's nice to see the representation!

Jimmy O's take on Asian American culture and stereotypes is very funny. Laughed out loud multiple times and, after all, isn't that what we watch stand-up for? This show was a good deal :-)

Not sure why the reviews aren't higher. It's very representative of his book if you've read it. Going in with a preconceived notion it'll be him playing his character from Silicon Valley is not really fair to him.

I laughed my butt off the entire time! I was initially skeptical as I thought the special would be offensive, but Jimmy confronts stereotypes with perfect comedic timing.
