Just a brief note, I think the Hannah Montana show was OK. Aside from some pretty good songs, it's main lead was OK, but later became annoying and some of the story lines, although funny, were quite predictable. While this movie improved a bit on the show, it's still flawed. The story despite it's nice moments is hugely predictable, the direction is bland, the script is schmaltzy, and the dialog is cringe-worthy.
Some of the characters are uninteresting, but the main lead played by Miley Cyrus is a vast improvement and is a much more likable character and her depth is well-developed. Even her relationships with her family especially her father was touching. Some of the songs were mediocre, but the two songs that were not only emotional, but catchy goes to "Butterfly Fly Away" and "The Climb" and I'm surprised to see that song won an award for Best Movie Song.
Overall, not exactly a great movie worth recommending, but not exactly as terrible as the ratings on this website says it is. It does have it's problems, but it's touching songs makes this worth a view for kids and their families.

I just wanted to comment on how completely ridiculous it is that grown people and older teenagers are commenting on how stupid, obnoxious, childish, un-funny, etc this movie was. I am a mother of 5 children, ages 12 to 2. My 3 daughters are 11 and two 9 year olds. They LOVED this movie and laughed their little butts off the whole time. Granted, there were MANY parts of the movie where I was bored to tears and I actually played a few games on my iPod touch I'd brought along...but AGAIN, this movie wasn't made FOR ME. IT WAS MADE FOR SMALL CHILDREN. And it really wasn't THAT bad. I mean, come on. We've all been watching Disney movies forever now, haven't we? Like you can't figure out who will die, who will win, who will lose, who will kiss whom, etc...in ANY Disney movie. Also, so she can't act?? Who cares? Because ALL of the Disney actors these days can't act. They are wooden and pathetic. BUT THE CHILDREN LIKE THEM. Stop being so judgmental about a movie that was geared towards 7 to 10 year old little girls, OK? It's just silly.
I genuinely enjoyed this. I didn't see that coming.
'Hannah Montana: The Movie' kept me suitably entertained from start-to-finish, it is so much better than I would've predicted. I have never seen an episode of the television series either.
It features a surprisingly interesting and fairly meaningful story, sure the ending is extremely Disneyfied and nonsensical but they make it work. For what it is, it's a relatively engaging storyline. There are a few bits of neat cinematography, also. Music-wise it's alright, "The Climb" is a (good) song that I was already familiar with.
Miley Cyrus does a respectable job in the lead role(s). Billy Ray Cyrus, Margo Martindale, Vanessa Williams and Barry Bostwick all feature too, as does a young Natalia Dyer. I like the casting.
I had very low expectations coming into this, but it's a film that pleasantly surprised me. I'd say it's worthy of a watch.

At this writing, the rating is 3.0 with 8908 votes. I would have expected 3.5 It's fluff, poorly done, with wooden "acting" and the certainty of purpose it seems only a teen could take seriously... and yet its target audience loves it.
And, although I hate to make the comparison, exactly what redeeming features did Elvis or Beatles movies have? In retrospect, not much.
I've been lucky enough to only be forced to watch one episode of the series, and from what I can tell the movie is just more of the same. If science ever discovers a cure for whatever it is that makes kids like this stuff, great... otherwise, this is typical and there will be more.
I will just add that I personally found absolutely no trace of realism or usefulness in this entire movie.

I went to this movie with three of my nieces and a theater full of children, girls AND boys alike. I was expecting a horrible movie because I cannot stand the television show. I was pleasantly surprised. Though not perfect, Miley Cyrus's acting has improved A LOT. The story and plot was okay for the most part, even though the ending was disappointing to me. Though it may be deemed cliché by many, it was very entertaining and was very "cute." The Hannah/Miley of the show has certainly developed in character, growing from bratty to somewhat mature - at least, empathetic. The moral teaches empathy and caring about your family/friends. And, of course, there was a daughter/father bonding moment, which many people can relate to. These are lessons I definitely agree with! On the flip side, there is a lot of glitz and makeup applying which may lead girls to be prematurely interested in these things. But that's up to the parents to steer their children the right way and not let them grow up too fast. In the end, my nieces loved it, of course, and it was nice to be able to see a clean, family movie with them.

- TriviaAt $17.4 million, it had the biggest opening-day gross ever for a live-action G-rated movie.
- ErroresEverytime Miley takes off her wig, her hair is in a messy knot at the back of her head. If her hair was really like that it would be noticeable through the wig.
