A Worthy Member of the Criminal Mastermind Lineage

After a horrible incident, police officer Tom Armstrong retires and moves to Mexico. But he is forced to return when the madman who targeted him once has returned, and only Armstrong knows the killer's mind well enough to play his games. But, of course, this only makes him a target.

Director Robert Kurtzman ("Wishmaster"), more generally known as the FX maestro behind scores of films (often in the horror genre), brings his vision to the script of Alex Vesha, who knows something about tense situations, psychotic (but brilliant) killers and bomb scares. There are more than a handful of moments here where lives are on the line -- sometimes hundreds. Eat your heart out, Jack Bauer.

While the lead role of Armstrong (Sean Patrick Flanery) has to be admired, there's no denying that Joe Pantoliano steals the show as The Lion. Menacing, devious, a master of disguise... he's a perfect casting choice for a villain. Despite decades in acting (including "The Goonies", "The Matrix" and "The Sopranos"), he still hasn't really achieved the notoriety he deserves. This probably will not be the film that breaks him into the top tier, but that day is coming. Watch out, Kevin Spacey.

I have to say I'm not really keen on the romantic aspects, and there is some slowness in general where the piano music kicks in. I understand the importance of the romance and relationships in this one, but there is a break in the pace that I think ultimately works against the fast action of the movie. I cannot really offer a solution of how to reconcile the need for romance and the pace, though, so I think the best was done with what they had. I would have replaced the romantic interest with a platonic partner or boss, but that's just me.

While I think the film is mildly flawed, due primarily to the pacing issue, it is worth seeing for anyone who enjoys the police or thriller genres. As stated, The Lion is a worthy villain in a long line of criminal masterminds, and Vesha, Kurtzman and Pantoliano really bring that to the forefront.

Not Good but not bad

I'll admit that this is not a great movie, the plot is simple and you can see some turns coming a mile away. However this is an entertaining movie, the performance by Sean Patrick Flannery is very good and the acting of Joe Pantoliano is excellent. Both are believable and deliver good performances. On the other hand the acting of just about everyone else is atrocious especially Carmen Serano she should not be allowed to be in any more movies towards the end I kept hoping she would be next to die so I wouldn't have to listen to her anymore. This movies a one you should rent on a night when you want to be entertained by a mindless movie that doesn't require you to think to much, if you do that you will have fun.

No better or no worst

Deadly Impact is no better or no worst than Speed minus the bus ride for a low budget film the two stories seem very similar they both dealt with a bomber on the loose but this is where Deadly Impact falters the action is far few between and Joe Pantoliano does a better job at being a crazed bomber than Dennis Hopper's character in speed and the surprise ending which I thought was original which I won't give away you will have to watch it and I will give it a five star rating for effort.

Dull and predictable

The script in this movie is very flat. The plot is very predictable and not particularly thrilling. The female lead is eye candy for the lads, but she didn't really sell the part - and her dialogue was pretty weak.

A decent watch

In all honesty, I really enjoyed this movie. It was a decent thriller. It reminded me a little of the TV show 24 for some reason, maybe the storyline. Flanery and Pantoliano do a pretty good job and really make this film. I think the movie could have been better with a different female lead, she just didn't seem to suit the part. I must say though, she is a hottie!! Most of the rest of the cast just make up the numbers. One downfall was that I didn't really like how music played through most of the movie, I don't understand why they do this.

If you like movies in the same genre as speed and the like you will enjoy this one.

deadly impact? not likely

First of all, I love a decent action flick as much as the other guy, given it has a good story, good acting, some nice twists, good action sequences, (keep in mind, I said GOOD and NICE, not PHENOMENAL or BRILLIANT)and let's not forget about the mandatory blond/brunette/redhead bombshell. Deadly Impact has none of the above. Apart from it's cheesy title, the only two good things in this movie are Sean Patrick Flanery and Joe Pantoliano - that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 0 - , and even they are far from their usual acting. It took me half the movie to realize that Carmen Serano really IS the female lead in this movie, and I can't understand why on earth would the producers/casting/director/studio choose an ugly-tranny-lookalike when there are so much more rising - and HOT - female stars out there. And some who CAN act, too. Not even Sean Patrick Flanery's shaggy, beat-up-look - which is always welcome - can't save this one from sinking. Final report: don't bother, unless you have absolutely nothing to do for about one and a half hours. Watch The Boondock Saints instead! (both)

Almost a much higher rating...

It's the writers not the actors. Love Sean!

I've seen this movie four times now. For the life of me, can't pinpoint how/when Tom Armstrong was able to flip the momentum without me seeing him. Even still loved this movie.

The remainder of the actors were good, all believable. Greg I saw a decade ago if not further back in Wildfire. He was just as enjoyable then. I like Carmen.

Poorly acted tripe

Silly and unbelievable story line. Wooden acting to a script that is a mish mash of so many other films. The title should be 'deadly cliché'. The biggest crime in this film is that from the first 5 minutes it leaves things unexplained as if key sections had been cut to confuse the audience. There is little or no tension and it becomes so predictable you can leave the film for 20 minutes in the sure and certain knowledge not much of consequence will have happened.

Deadly Impact - Hardly

Another revenge flick that makes ridiculous demands on the audience - the acting is only just above the typical WWF performance, nothing else is. The plot, premise and screenplay are pure simplistic pantomime. Don't bother unless you are really sucked in by the plots in WWF. Why oh why do these action films have to have such contrived story lines to execute screenplay. An irritating dick-waving contest between and evil 'mastermind' who despite having the ability to take on any challenge sets about playing games with the dumbest cop in police enforcement history. It is very hard to imagine an psychopath so cruel that he would not have just finished the idiot in the first scene and spared us all the agony.

A ridiculous film

Cliché ridden, ridiculous plot. The usual females blundering into stupid situations and have to be rescued by the hero from the usual serial killer/terrorist/bank robber*. Plenty of explosions, with not even sardonic humour to lighten the load.

*Delete as necessary.

It happened to be on when I was doing something else, so I'm glad I didn't actually have to pay to see it.

It rates even lower than Columbo as optical chewing gum (and that's being unfair to Columbo), so if you've literally got nothing else to do, with not even a root canal in the offing, maybe watch it.

Solid Action Thriller

Director Robert Kurtzman's first foray into the action/thriller genre certainly won't be his last. While I have always enjoyed Kurtzman's horror flicks and magnificent special and make-up effects, I was anxiously awaiting his directorial debut into another type of film. I was not disappointed, as "Deadly Impact" is a solid thriller. Joe Pantoliano plays an assassin who is wreaking havoc on his victims, and Sean Patrick Flannery plays a cop on the team assigned to stop him. As Flannery's character gets closer to finding the assassin, he becomes the object of the assassin's wrath and the cat-and-mouse game begins. The two characters try to outwit and out-think each other up, right up until the very end. Be sure to grab this on DVD for an entertaining movie night.

A REALLY GOOD SUSPENSE THRILLER

Deadly Impact is a really good suspense Thriller with some good action scenes & two good leads!!!

I had never seen a "Sean Patrick Flanery" film until i finally watched "Deadly Impact" & he made a good lead & seems like a good solid actor & done very good here as a troubled cop who has done something horrific to the one he loved because he had to!!!

The real star of this exciting Thriller is the Awesome "Joe Pantoliano" who plays a real sadistic evil terrorist they call "The Lion", this guy is so smart & so remorseless, he's a great villain & it's a great performance by "Joe" who is planting bombs all over a city & uses some very funny disguises!!! You get to feel the hate between the Cop & the Terrorist as it's all very personal & gets very intense. A real Cat & Mouse Thriller full of intensity & action & Directed by a legend within the Horror genre "Robert Kurtzman" who is an fx wizard & has done amazing work on "From Dusk Till Dawn '96" which he also helped write the script & has helped create tons of horror movies & has directed a few but his best was the excellent "Wishmaster" back in 1997, this "Deadly Impact" was his first time directing a "Action Thriller" instead of a Horror & he done a great job.

Yes this is a very low-budget B-movie that is made in the old school mould of action Thriller films like "Lethal weapon" & others & that's a good thing!!! I really enjoyed Deadly Impact

Entertaining From Start to Finish

This film kept me entertained from start to finish. It reminded me of "Speed" or "Blown Away" with the same type of tension and suspense throughout the story, with interplay between the cop and the killer. Sean Patrick Flannery did a great job as a cop who rejoins the police force to track his old foe, an assassin played by Joe Pantoliano. The supporting cast, including Greg Serano as the cop's partner and Carmen Serano as an FBI agent also tracking the assassin, did a nice job as well, though they are not as seasoned as Flannery and Pantoliano. The soundtrack was great and really added to the film. This is definitely worth a look on DVD, although I am disappointed it is not going to be released on Blu-Ray.

3 words: Lame, lamer, lamest

I was duped into wasting 1 1/2 hours of my valuable life on this movie because the poster looked like it might be a decent cop movie and the fact that they cast Sean Patrick Flanery who acted in one of my favourite movies of all time (Boondock Saints).

As the subject line says, it was full of lame; the story was unbelievable and full of holes, I couldn't find myself caring about this guy who loses his wife, Pantoliano's character was more of a tool than threatening, and I was disappointed that Flanery's acting was so bad. I believe this may have been because he appeared to be trying to hide his Irish accent which was so great in Saints. I am not sure why producers try to do this (except when it is obviously important to the story); albeit some actors are much better than others (eg Colin Farrell in Miami Vice).

I try to provide some positive in my reviews (this one is hard), so lets just say watch this purely to put more money into Flanery's pocket to thank him for Saints.

Overall its not a bad film, not great either by any stretch of the imagination. Some well know actors features, and there is enough action some filmed well enough. If you need to kill some time give it a go. 5/10
