Levi Miller and Jason Isaacs previously starred as the younger and older version of the same character in Siempre estarás conmigo (2016). Here, they play father and son.
Australian swimming legend Ian Thorpe, as one of the executive directors, helped bring authenticity to the competitive swimming parts of the movie as well as helping 17-year-old Levi Miller train for the role of Benjamin Lane. Thorpe was able to help the director faithfully create the atmosphere of enormous pressure that has become a part of the Australian Olympic swimming success. At 14, Ian made history by becoming the youngest male to ever make the Australian Mens' swim team. At 17, Ian was selected for the Australian Mens' Olympic swim team. He became the hero of the Games for Australia, and was even asked to carry the flag during the Closing Ceremony.
