"Alter" is a gripping psychological thriller directed by Steve Bacic that will leave you on the edge of your seat. The movie delves into the mind of Steve Bryant, who suffers from PTSD due to a traumatic experience he believes he endured as a child. The film's plot centers on Steve's belief that he has found the man who abducted and tortured him 40 years ago, and he takes him hostage to force a confession.
The film's direction by Steve Bacic is masterful, with the tension building gradually throughout the movie. Bacic effectively creates a claustrophobic atmosphere, with much of the film taking place in a single room as Steve holds Larry Decker hostage. The movie is also visually striking, with clever use of lighting and camera angles to heighten the suspense.
The performances by the cast are exceptional, with Richard Riehle delivering a standout performance as Larry Decker. His portrayal of a man who may or may not be the person Steve has been searching for is nuanced and layered, leaving the audience guessing until the very end.
The movie's plot is complex and multi-layered, with several twists and turns that keep the audience engaged. The question of whether Steve is the victim of a satanic pedophile or a schizophrenic serial killer is explored throughout the movie, and the final reveal is both surprising and satisfying.
One of the strengths of "Alter" is the way it tackles the issue of mental health. Steve's PTSD and psychosis are portrayed realistically and sensitively, without resorting to stereotypes or cliches. The film highlights the challenges faced by people with mental health issues, and the devastating impact it can have on their lives and those around them.
Overall, "Alter" is an outstanding psychological thriller that is well worth watching. Steve Bacic's direction, combined with the exceptional performances by the cast, creates a tense and atmospheric movie that will keep you guessing until the very end. The film's exploration of mental health issues is a refreshing and important addition to the genre, and the final reveal is both shocking and satisfying. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good psychological thriller.

As a teenager struggling with mental health issues watching this movie really helped change my view of trauma. The plot line was fantastic and I was interested throughout every scene. Steve Bacic's acting was another very good add on to this amazing movie as it helped build suspense in most scenes and helped set the mood for most scenes also. His struggle throughout his childhood and getting abused is potrayed well and is apparent that it is affecting his daily life. The scenes and filming were very professional and the music also add's great suspense to the already amazing filmed scenes. Amazing movie.
This is not that! A powerful and provoking thriller. Director, Steve Bacic, did an excellent job in keeping you guessing throughout.
Completed with a modest budget, you never felt as though that was the case. It had as much depth as most high budget films released these days.
It's sharply written, sincerely played and perfectly pitched, with everyone involved in the production, whether cast or crew, clearly bringing their A-game to the table.
Filmmaking thrives with a sharp ending, and lower budgets mean more creative ideas, and as a result, more engaging films. Alter delivers exactly this.
