After a thousand years of cultivation a white snake called Bai Suzhen is granted the human form. To gain immortality she descends to the moral world and meets Physician Xu Xian.
Fa Hai begins his hunt for demons in Lin'an City, following rumors of missing children. Saving Yu Luan and enjoying the lantern festival together start the romance for Xian and Suzhen. Suzhen saves Qing from Fa Hai.
When a fire starts in the town, Suzhen uses a celestial power forbidden to demons to summon rain and stop the fire, while Xiao stops the Souding Staff from interfering. Fa Hei fights a centipede demon who eats children, but fails.
Xu Xian and his brother in law Gongpu put their minds together and figure how the missing children were marked. Now that Xiao has pledged to stay female in order to protect Suzhen in the moral word, Suzhen gets more interested in Xian.
Fa Hai has to make his first choice between demon and kindhearted and chooses the latter. The centipede demon is defeated. The children live, except Chang Sheng. Xian finds the hastily conjured Bai Mansion and invites Suzhen for dinner.
Ruyi gets jealous at the dinner where to her surprise, Suzhen is attending as well. The constables are celebrating the rescue of the children. When Ms. Kexin is performing the constables are in awe - yet Gongpu resists her charms.
Ms. Kexin's charms work on the town magistrate and she does not get arrested. Instead Gongpu gets scolded. Fa Hai gives Gongpu a magic weapon. Kexin almost gets slain by it in her fox spirit form. Jing Song pushes to return to heaven.
Suzhen decides to stay and Xu Xian declares his feelings for her. Ruyi throws a fit engaging her father in getting rid of Suzhen, but fails. Kexin decides to make use of Ruyi's feelings for Xian to obtain Suzhen's cultivation.
Xu Xian almost drowns because Song, Xiao and her helpers stage an accident as revenge for what they think is a betrayal. Suzhen cuts ties with Xiao and Song after rescuing Xu Xian and finding out what they did. Jing Song does not give up.
Xu Xian tries to defend Suzhen, but Prime Minister Liang, who killed his father long ago interferes with the trial. Kexin tries to outsmart Jing Song by taking Suzhen's demon core, but fails. Suzhen tries to clear Xian's name.
Jing Song checks if Kexin is doing her job and warns her again not to mess with him. However, Kexin is exposed as the femme fatale that murdered the town official. Xu Xian is released and Fa Hai, Suzhen and Xiao Qing hunt the fox.
Clan Master Lingyou sacrifices himself to save the town after Fa Hai, Suzhen and Qing destroyed Kixen and she let out rage causing snow. Xian is ill and Ruyi feels like she about to loose everything to live for. Suzhen cuts ties with Song.
