Do yourself a favor and read up on the Mitford sisters. Way more interesting than this tripe. One married a famous British fascist (Mosley), one was a Hitler groupie, and one married a Duke, and another was a member of the American communist party. Nancy should have written about that! Not "The pursuit of Libido."

Excellent acting cannot redeem the scatterbrain sequences

These social butterflies cannot land anywhere, even for a moment. It becomes irritating when we watch sequence after sequence of fleeting thoughts and moments The script just tries too hard, a bit like the girls trying to find love.

If you liked Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette or BBC/HBO's Gentleman Jack...

...then this may well be up your alley (I should say I think it's far better than Coppola's M-A) . Both the 'purists' and the parvenus (and staunch fans of assorted Mitfords) will and have turned their noses up - I guess all reviews are opinions and nothing more so....good for them. Personally I was a fan, I think a traditionally safe version would have been great but this is good fun and seems to have its tongue firmly in its cheek.

Wry and witty satire.

Emily Mortimer has done a great job adapting Mitford's novel. Engaging and witty mini-series, looks lovely, good cast.

Enjoyable Diversion

Having not read the book or any erlier dramatizations I cant compare, but I enjoyed the series. The characters, though often fustrating were never dull and. I binged it in one sitting. Recommended.

Mortimer's version and Andrew's Scott interpretation of Lord Merlin is reminiscent of the Edwardian dandy Henry Cyril Paget, 5th Marquess of Anglesey. The 5th Marquess of Anglesey also lived the rockstar life, was very much an aesthete, and even dyed his poodles different colors. He died in Monte Carlo at the age of 29 of consumption.
