Max has been recently left by his wife, Sophie. He's desperate, and he has no idea how to pay his rent. He then takes psychiatrist Henri as his roommate. A decision he will soon regret because Henri, who has just been kicked out by his wife, is only whining and complaining. Instead of offering Max a professional help, he complains about his own heartache. In the meantime, Max has to hide from his owner that Sophie moved out. Valerie tries to help him but only makes things worse.

Max needs to get ready for a doctor's role on television. That's why he decides to take a medical student, Philippe, as a roommate. He hopes to learn secrets about doctors' life and profession. But Philippe is more interested in girls and car magazines, at the same time closes his eyes to the blood drop. Max has to make Philippe take an interest in the content of his courses. And it is exactly at the moment of a "dress rehearsal" (with ketchup imitating blood) that the owner knocks at the door.

Max is going to a workshop to prepare a musical. Upon his return, he discovers with horror that his new roommate, the so-called English designer Paul, completely transformed his apartment in his absence. The furniture is made of recyclable materials and one is uglier than another. And as if that wasn't enough, Max breaks his leg. All his efforts will be wasted: he will not be able to perform in the musical.

The new roommate, Marcel, a man a little older than Max, is nice and quiet. Too quiet. Two days after he moved in, Max finds him dead in his bed. And under the bed, a suitcase full of money. Freaked out, Max calls Valerie for help, and she informs the police. The situation is worse than they could imagine. The young commissioner suspects not only Max of Marcel's murder but also Valerie. And intends to prove their guilt. Do they still have a chance of not ending up in jail?

Max doesn't want to hear about roommates anymore. But when a pretty dancer Jenny appears on his doorstep, he quickly forgets about his new decision. For the first time since Max broke up with Sophie, Max became interested in another woman. Jenny offers online gymnastics courses in the dining room, which is a pleasure not only to Max but also to his friend Ivan and theater producer Nathan. Even Valerie falls under Jenny's spell. Until Ivan and Nathan chose to give Jenny the role that was originally intended for Max in their new play.

The young Yves now lives with Max. Even as a child, he dreamed of becoming a firefighter. To train, he installs a fireman's bar in Max's dining room. But when a hamster loses his life during one of his interventions, Yves is traumatized. At night, he keeps Max awake - which is impossible, since Max must look young and fresh for the shooting of an advertisement. Max has to dare to call Sophie and ask her for professional help.

But his agent Danny is setting him up for a meeting with a very famous Danish director. In order to get the lead role in his next play, Max must devote himself to the Spartan lifestyle in the coming weeks. No sex, no drugs, no alcohol, no rock'n'roll, he has to get up at sunrise and practice yoga for hours. Danny decides to keep an eye on Max so he could keep his promises. Meanwhile, Sophie is looking to get closer to Max.

Now it's Valerie's turn to live with Max. Her apartment is under renovation and she can't live there. But Max's stepmother is the worst roommate he's ever had. She is constantly lying on the couch and giving orders to Max. Soon he feels like he's not at his place anymore. With Sophie's help, he is working out a plan to get rid of Valerie.

Max is deeply surprised when a tax inspector comes to his door. But the reasons for his coming are clear: Max has not been very honest in his tax returns over the past few years, and Mr. Scholtes seems to know everything. He knows that Max played Santa Claus in the local supermarket, and knows the small roles he got abroad. As it rains outside, Max lets him spend the night at home. Olivier is a perfect roommate, the kindest and least complicated of all. Valerie herself falls completely under his spell, to the point where she even spends the night with him. But when she wakes up, her jewelry is gone.
