soul kicking and soul corrupting

I had a chance to watch this movie and I have to say that it left me a bitter taste at the end. Being Greek, helped me to feel better the scenes of the film, transmitting the melancholy and the depreciation of the west suburbs of Athens. The film was depressing but true. The only glitch that I can find is the weak dialogs of the actors, but it doesn't stop to get the message that the writer tries to pass. Takis is sad, Takis rarely speaks, Takis is accepting other people's hate and anger. And what does he gets? Nothing. Nothing but humiliation and inconsideration. They say that in every family there is a tragedy, but in tragedies there is always the solution. Is this the way out? I leave it up to you to judge. Personally I liked the film and I give it 8 out of 10

A punch in the face of western societies

For those who enjoy ethnographic films, this one is brilliant. It is strong, violent, beautiful. From the opening scene the viewer realizes he is about to watch a modern version of pure Greek tragedy. The whole story revolves masterfully around the main character and his desperate efforts to make ends meet. Yet the whole crew performs amazingly. Thus said one should acknowledge Oikonomidis' virtuosity to take the best out of his actors. The use of strong language is not blunt. It is instead meaningful and serves very nicely to portray the violent interaction between characters and a claustrophobic ambiance that puts a question right from the beginning: how long can this go on for and how is-it going to end? Not to be missed.

shallow and not pedantic

A film about oppressed people, being that a result of their psychotic reality, or the nature of everyday life, the psychological instability experienced, through a twisted and shallow understanding of problematic solutions. The point is that all characters are beyond a sample of what might be society's "normal standards". However the truth lays in the fact that being bald to admit – each person in modern social structures manifests some pathological symptoms concerning the functional pathways of an individual mindset. But the ability to control situations is what makes people to continue and find a meaning on their actions. In few words characters such as those portrayed in the film are a glance within the sick or unpleasant human we hide - first - from our self. A world dismantled of dignity which might - as well - be an interesting case study, but it's not. This project fails to allow the audience to become a part of a play that portrays the apoptotic results of an alienated routine towards survival. What actually happens here is that the picture is watched from outside, and from there it's also easily forgotten. What remains in the end is a repetition of meaningless foul language most proper for an alternative soap opera. There is a statement there, surely and a strong one too, but the most disappointing outcome is that the audience tends to think on the basis of the film happening in the present in front of their eyes thus wrongly identifying the right in an unbearably fuzzy and disturbing point of view towards one's actions. At least the director and the actors depicted a grim reality – I hope that bleakness becomes symbolic.
