Lindsay Lohan was the original casting choice for Jackie Truman. Due to her erratic behavior and substance abuse problems, the film could not secure a completion bond. The bond company feared it would lose its investment if her self-destructive personal life actually prevented the film from being completed.
Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes in Batman inicia (2005) sequel Batman: El caballero de la noche (2008) to star in this film. Maggie Gyllenhaal was subsequently chosen to replace her.
The stock ticker at the bottom of the screen during "Mad Money w/ Jim Cramer" mentions Stark Industries, the fictional company owned by Tony Stark in Iron Man. El Hombre de Hierro (2008). Iron Man was released four-and-a-half months after Mad Money and also features a segment from "Mad Money w/ Jim Cramer".
Based on the 2001 British TV film Hot Money (2001) which in turn was based on the true events known as The Loughton Incinerator Thefts (1988-1992) from The Bank of England's Royal Mint. It also is similar to the movie Who's Minding The Mint.
Up until the mid 1970's it was the practice of the Government to burn the old currency. The EPA then ruled that the chemicals used for the dyes were a pollution hazard. That was when the practice of shredding the currency began. This would still be a hazard buried in landfills, so plan was to reused the shredded currency as insulation purposes. This could potentially mean a house could have millions of dollars of insulation.
