A movie like this could only be made by the Yashraj Studio. But if you're not expecting stark realism then its okay, because on the flip-side only Yashraj could pull off a movie like this, with their slick production values and the star power to make it work. Here, the mix of escapism and relatable characters is just right.
Saif Ali Khan demonstrates good versatility and Rani Mukherjee lends real grace to her more straightforward role. But the real star is the little girl, who upstages both in all her scenes. An amazingly good casting, she is reminiscent of the Award-Winning young Anna Paquin and hopefully she has a bright future ahead of her.
The pacing is very good. Just when it looks like things are about to get too clichéd or boring, it picks up again. The songs meld well into the story and the music is entertaining and upbeat.
Some people are trying to burn it at the stake calling a rip-off of Talladega Nights. It clearly started as such. But I think this is the superior and more enjoyable movie. I'm a Will Ferrell fan but I would recommend TRRP over TN. Consider it a case of fixing what was broke.

it has nothing new to offer as it's utterly predictable. It's got those usual songs and dances, crying and laughing, outdoor locations etc. Siddharth Anand's second directorial effort shows improvement over his first (the first one being a ripoff of so many films and sitcoms). One thing I cannot understand is why he (or Yashraj films) chose to shoot the film in America? This could have easily been made in India, giving us more of an insight of the beautiful country. Don't we see New York in Hollywood movies and American sitcoms? Yashraj seems to be embarrassed to show India these days. Are they trying to suggest that India does not have locations worth showing in their films? I really liked Saif and Rani's chemistry in 'Hum Tum' which is why I gave this one a go. I wasn't disappointed where the two actors were concerned. Saif sort of repeats his 'Salaam Namaste' & 'Hum Tum' persona but does a decent job. One may wonder if he's trying to be Salman. Why does he have to take his shirt off in every film? Rani is brilliant and looks supersexy in her new look. Javed Jaffrey finally gets a decent part in a long time. Angelina Idnani is good in her scenes but she shouldn't have done the narration. Ali Haji just tries to be cute. Victor Banerjee has about three small scenes. Yet, he makes his presence felt.
The technological aspect stands out. Sound effects, visuals and cinematography are almost top notch. Background score is intrusive at times. Songs are forgettable but fit nicely with the screenplay.
I watched 'Ta Ra Rum Pum' with little expectation. In any case I wasn't expecting a realistic flick. Hence I enjoyed most parts of it. I wouldn't say it's anywhere near the best films of 2007 but still watchable. It does have its share of excessive melodrama (as almost all recent Yashraj films do) and deja-vu coincidences or accidents. In one sentence, this is more of a family movie, something you wouldn't mind watching with kids around.

Ta Ra Rum Pum" is generally reviewed as a feel-good family entertainer with a mix of romance, drama, and thrilling car races. While some critics found the plot predictable and melodramatic, others appreciated the film's sincerity, uplifting messages, and portrayal of family values. The movie's strengths include its catchy music, strong performances by Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji, and well-executed race sequences
The film's soundtrack, particularly the song "Ab To Forever," received positive feedback, and the visuals, especially the aerial shots of New York, were appreciated..
The movie's focus on family unity, love, and perseverance resonated with many viewers.

Siddarth Anand is back in the director's seat after giving us Salaam Namaste. This time,Saif Ali Khan plays Rajveer Singh aka RV who is a successful race car driver. He is joined by his wive Radhika aka Shona(played none other by Rani Mukherji) and their two children,Champ and Princess.
The first half we see RV having a rags to riches story from being a tyre changer to a successful race car driver. He is joined by Billy from "Speeding Saddles",a disintegrating race company. He also falls in love with Radhika and we see their courtship to their eventual marriage.Following that they have 2 kids and a wonderful house and a wonderful life.
So that's that right? Apparently not.RV's career takes a turn for the worst when he gets involved in an accident during one of his racing stints. One year later,he attempts to get back into the racing game but memories from his accident still haunt him to this day.He eventually gets fired from Speeding Saddles.Money is now suddenly a big issue and the family of five (of course the would have to include a pet dog wouldn't they?)have to experience to live the hard life.
The first half is filled with racing scenes (surprisingly well done)and as mentioned we see the courtship of Saif and Rani complete with two songs "Ab to Forever" and "Hey Shona".Second half we see the family of five living the hard life but yet ending the day with a positive outlook on life, that tomorrow will be a better day.
The film picks up toward the second half. The family of four (excluding Bruno, the dog) have good chemistry together.Saif and Rani, two strong performers together with the two children entertain us throughout. Its a feel good movie that ought to be watched with the whole family.Siddarth is still clearly missing his "Salaam Namaste" days where Javeed recycles his jokes and the restaurant manager from SN is also back in this film.Is this film hard hitting? No.But nonetheless, you are sure to have a good time.

This film is such a joy for Hindi cinema goers and non Hindi cinema goers alike.
The songs are fantastic, they really move the story along and occur at just the right time to heighten the emotion. AB to forever is so catchy the audience clapped along! It is not a film for men who are expecting The fast and the Furious, it is a film, for softies - a great and genuinely lovable cast of characters portrayed with dignity and truth by top actors as they face the trials of life - with courage and a smile, according to the tag line. And they really do.
Rani and Saif are a believable and appealing couple, one hopes they will be paired again on screen, the children are adorable. Rani drunk is HI-Larious and Saif is such a thoughtful and witty actor. They both look at their most beautiful in this film. The family unit is totally compelling.
Ta Ra Rum Pum stays true to its Indian heart whilst embracing Western cultures and ideas without envy. A very enjoyable well made film

- TriviaThe crew had to lock up Times Square for the shoot of the song 'Hey Shona'. The brief was that the 2 actors were supposed to be alone in every location in New York for the love song. The crew got there at 2AM to prepare for the shot, and timed everything so that the location could be locked up & the first shot could be canned as soon as the light was right.
- ErroresIn 8 years of successful racing, RV drives the exact same car (the Chevy Aveo, which didn't exist back then), with the same endorsements.
