Nice Look at Cooper's Career

Gary Cooper; The Face of a Hero (1998)

A very good documentary taking a look at the life and career of Gary Cooper. We get to hear about some of Cooper's early life but the main focus is on what made him such a great actor and so popular with people. Charlton Heston, George C. Scott, Patricia Neal, Joan Leslie, Jane Greer, Edward Dmytryk, Jeffrey Meyers, A.C. Lyles and others including Cooper's daughter.

As I've said about others in this series, the greatest thing is that we get a documentary that mainly focuses on the films but we get to hear from so many legends who are no longer with us. Getting to hear Scott tell a story about Cooper leaving his trailer to meet some fans was great as is a hilarious story told by Heston about someone who got a bit more than they hoped for when barking at Cooper. If you're a fan of the actor then you'll really enjoy hearing these stories as well as seeing all the footage from the films.

First, it is a profound useful documentary. You know the format, you know the rhytm but you have the opportunity to discover a great actor , with, for many from us is this situation, you are not contemporary and it is easy to associate it with an idilic Hollywood age, great westerns, few touching films . The man behind them is, and this chain of testimonies are significant for that, more. He was authentic and not far by the image on the screen. A documentary about a way to live, in correct manner, with generosity and high respect for admirers . So, just a hero.
