Image
The Boys is getting a prequel series. Titled Vought Rising, the prequel serves as an origin story for Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy, who Prime Video has just revealed will be sporting a new costume in the upcoming series.

The official X account for The Boys has unveiled first look images for Ackles' Soldier Boy and the three superheroes who will round out the main cast of Vought Rising — Mason Dye's Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey's Private Angel, and Will Hochman's Torpedo. Soldier Boy's chest emblem has also been tweaked a bit. As for the three new superheroes, their costumes all look straight out of the 1950s, which is fitting...

A Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology exhibit, along with two theaters, over thirty galleries, and a library, will be included in the museum, and Lucas is rounding it out with a display of Frida Kahlo paintings he owns as a nice, personal touch. The museum is set to open in 2026 in Los Angeles after years of delay due to construction problems (rejections from Chicago/San Francisco) and the pandemic. A pair of DC actresses are among the genre folks getting a big push from Variety on a list of the up-and-coming stars!

This year’s list includes many faces familiar to sci-fi and fantasy fans, proving how these stars are on the rise beyond the genre.

‘Freakier Friday’ Director Nisha Ganatra Might Have Cracked the Code on the Studio Comedy
Image
Over the course of her directing career, Nisha Ganatra has tackled nearly every stripe of comedy, from cute romances to wacky workplaces, mistaken identities to screwball send-ups. From films like “Chutney Popcorn” and “Late Night” to a truly staggering array of TV directing gigs, Ganatra knows funny.

Over the course of her last three films, however, Ganatra has hit upon something of a compelling niche, a kind of old-fashioned comedy about women trying to make their way through the world, often coming up against generational mishaps and misunderstandings, and emerging all the better for it.

All of that and, yes, still funny.

When I pointed out this theme in “Late Night,” “The High Note,” and her latest release, this week’s much-anticipated “Freakier Friday,” the already effervescent filmmaker really sparked. “I miss those old Mike Nichols movies where it’s just smart women being smart and having ambitions, and not fighting over a guy,...

'The Boys' Prequel 'Vought Rising' Adds New Cast Members as Filming Begins
Image
The Boys finished filming Season 5 earlier this summer, but Amazon is not slowing down anytime soon in expanding the raunchy superhero franchise. Titled Vought Rising, the upcoming prequel will, you guessed it, show the rise of the Vought International and follow Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively. They won't be alone, of course, as the series has added several new cast members that will join The Boys alums.

Vought Rising has cast Jorden Myrie (Bridgerton), Nicolò Pasetti (Industry), Ricky Staffieri (The Bear) and Brian J. Smith (Sense8) in undisclosed roles. They join a previously announced cast that includes Ackles, Cash, Mason Dye, Will Hochman and Elizabeth Posey. The Boys prequel begins filming this month, not long after the fifth and final season wrapped filming in June. It is said that the events of Vought Rising might be directly related to The Boys Season 5, but further...

‘The Boys’ Spinoff ‘Vought Rising’ Adds 4 Series Regulars
Image
“Vought Rising” – the latest spinoff to come out of “The Boys” – has expanded its roster of series regulars by four.

Ricky Staffieri (“The Bear”), Brian J. Smith (Sense8), Jorden Myrie (“Bridgerton”) and Nicolò Pasetti have all joined the cast of “The Boys” prequel series. Information on who the four new additions will play in the series is being kept under wraps at this time.

The new castings join Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash who return to reprise their roles of Soldier Boy and Stormfront first seen in Seasons 2 and 3 of “The Boys.” Both Ackles and Cash will also serve as executive producers on the new show.

Set in the 1950s, the show will track the “humble” origins of the superhero corporation Vought International. The series will also focus on Soldier Boy and Stormfront and their dynamic. A product of Vought’s research in Germany during the 1930s, Stormfront is a literal Nazi.

Olivia Rodrigo Makes a Case for Errands-Core
Image
The Gen Z superstar is mastering a new kind of street style: low-pressure, high-impact, and endlessly watchable

By now, we’ve seen Olivia Rodrigo command red carpets, crowd-surf at concerts, and sell out tour dates across continents. But this summer, without making any grand declarations, she’s shifted her focus. Or at least, her wardrobe has.

In paparazzi shots and TikTok reels, she’s no longer just the stage star. She’s the girl on the street. The one running errands in flared leggings and vintage Cortez sneakers. The one grabbing an iced matcha in a gingham shirtdress and ballet flats.

TikTok users have started calling it “errands-core” — a term that, like most online fashion language, is both ironic and sincere. It describes an aesthetic where comfort leads, but detail follows. Think thoughtful basics, subtle throwbacks, and accessories that complete the look without shouting about it. Rodrigo didn’t invent it,...

‘Gen V’ Star Teases ‘The Boys’ Upcoming Crossover in Season 2
Image
From the jump, The Boys spin-off, Gen V, has fully leaned into its strengths. The in-universe offshoot that follows a young up-and-coming group of promising Supes in training at the prestigious Godolkin University had plenty going for it on its own, characters and story-wise, but throwing in cameos from familiar faces that audiences already knew and loved turned things up a notch. During the first season, viewers tuned in and saw crossover appearances from favorites like A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford), Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), Ashley (Colby Minifie), and Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit). Thanks to a new trailer shared last weekend at Sdcc, we know that not only will the upcoming sophomore installment feature a fan-favorite character in a cameo capacity, but that she’ll be woven into the storyline.

From what we saw, Erin Moriarty’s Annie January, aka Starlight, will play a major role in Season 2 of Gen V,...

‘Gen V’ Star Reveals 'The Boys' Major Impact on Season 2
Image
The cool, soothing tone of Hamish Linklater has been disarming audiences since he first came onto the scene more than two decades ago. That’s why he was the perfect man to don the top hat and beard of President Abraham Lincoln for Apple TV+’s Manhunt and why he was the right choice to portray a priest attempting to shepherd his followers towards the truth in Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series, Midnight Mass. Once again stepping into the spotlight and allowing his mild-mannered tone to lull us into a false sense of security, the actor is set to join the cast of Gen V for its second season, which arrives next month. Linklater will be taking on the role of Dean Cipher, the new leader at Godolkin University — a place for young superheroes to grow their powers. But, as the trailers have told us, there’s nothing safe about...

Gen V Season 2: What Are Marie’s New Abilities?
Image
Prime Video‘s Gen V Season 2 is set to premiere on September 17, 2025, and all eyes are on Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair). Her power appears to be evolving into something far more dangerous. Based on the season 2 trailer, Marie’s new abilities could be telekinetic-like, blood manipulation, and non-contact offensive force. She may now manipulate blood within others as well.

The trailer shows Marie levitating objects and throwing people, hinting at a possible telekinetic upgrade. These scenes suggest she can now manipulate blood pressure similar to The Boys‘ Victoria Neuman, the head-popping supe. In the Season 1 finale, she halted a fatal injury to Cate and neutralized armed guards without touching them.

It can also be speculated that Marie may have adapted powers related to Andre Anderson. His telekinetic abilities resemble what Marie is now showing.

Why Marie Accepts Starlight's Mission In Gen V Season 2 Explained By Boys Spinoff Star
Image
Gen V star Jaz Sinclair has shed some light on Marie Moreau's upcoming partnership with Starlight in season 2. Though The Boys and Gen V can technically be watched independently, there's no denying that Gen V's story has greatly impacted the franchise's flagship show.

The supe-killing virus introduced in Gen V season 1 was a focal point in The Boys season 4, and now, Gen V season 2 looks primed to act as a bridge between The Boys seasons 4 and 5. The trailers for Gen V season 2 have promised appearances by The Deep (Chace Crawford), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), Firecracker (Valorie Curry), and, most importantly, Starlight (Erin Moriarty).

As the shows unravel the link between Vought and Godolkin University, Starlight asks Marie to help her uncover and stop an ongoing research program: Project Odessa. Project Odessa's aim is currently unknown, but it was created by God U's founder, Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater). So,...

'Gen V' Season 2 Will Feature a Big Time Jump
Image
The last time Gen V fans were at Godolkin University, things took a turn for the worse for some students. Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and her friends were imprisoned while Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) were elevated. A small crossover in The Boys Season 4 confirmed that Cate and Sam were the new Guardians of Godolkin, but what happened to Marie and her gang? Gen V's showrunner, Michele Fazekas, told TV Insider that when the show returns for Season 2, viewers will be immersed in the next chapter of the story. "There’s a time jump,” she revealed at Sdcc to the outlet. She teased what's on the horizon for the characters, saying,

“And everyone starts in a completely different place, and they’re not all together… They’re in a place that we have been told in Season 1 [is] the last place you should want to go, which is called Elmira…...

Gen V‘s long-awaited return is nearly here, and ahead of The Boys spinoff’s Season 2 debut, the stars and showrunner Michele Fazekas hit up TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine’s studio at San Diego Comic-Con to tease what’s in store for this latest chapter of the college-set superhero series. As viewers will recall, Season 1 of the show, which focuses on a group of coming-of-age supes attending Godolkin University, saw several of the students imprisoned at a mysterious location with their fates uncertain. And Fazekas is clearing up any confusion as she sets the stage for Season 2. “Yeah, there’s a time jump,” she says. “And everyone starts in a completely different place, and they’re not all together… They’re in a place that we have been told in Season 1 [is] the last place you should want to go, which is called Elmira… Some of them end up there,...

Gen V Season 1: Who Is Maverick’s Girlfriend? Her Powers and Abilities Explained
Image
The Gen V Season 2 cast lineup has been making headlines ever since the trailer was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con in July. But we cannot stop thinking about one notable character from Season 1: Maverick’s girlfriend, Sloane. In the twisted, hormones and superpower-fueled world of Godolkin University, Maverick’s alpaca girlfriend stood out to audiences.

While her existence sounds like a joke ripped from The Boys’ playbook, the spin-off treats it surprisingly seriously, which has generated significant buzz around her powers and abilities. As Gen V gears up for a second season, let’s dissect all the abilities Maverick’s bizarre partner possesses.

Meet the 26-Year-Old Who Reopened an 85-Year-Old Movie Theater
Image
Gen-Z is out of reach, so many distributors fret. They don’t care about the theatrical experience. But in St. Pete Beach, Florida, something remarkable happened: 26-year-old Hannah Hockman spearheaded the refurbishment of an 85-year-old indie movie theater. It was a 16-month process of interior demolition, design, and rebuilding that she spearheaded and documented over a series of YouTube videos.

When Hockman opened her restored Beach Theatre on July 18 with a screening of a documentary about its restoration, she took the stage to deliver remarks to a sell-out crowd. It was an extraordinary moment in the cultural life of this small barrier island on the Gulf Coast and a reminder that movie theaters can be a hub for an entire community.

“There’s definitely a perception of kids ‘these days’ always looking at their phones,” Hockman told IndieWire. “But I think there’s definitely a desire in my generation...

Gen V Season 2 Trailer Brings The Boys Spin-Off Back To God U — And Into Homelander’s America
Image
Packing an abundance of surreal sex scenes, prosthetic penises, and Tarantino shamingly bloody violence, Gen V made itself right at home in Amazon's r-rated The Boys universe when it landed on Prime Video back in 2023. Now, almost two years later — and with Billy Butcher and co's final The Boys outing growing ever nearer — Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters' carnage-filled, college-set spin-off is about to enter its sophomore year as Season 2 promises to take us back to a very different Godolkin University than the one we left behind. Check out the new trailer for the latest series below and you'll see what we mean;

Hamish Linklater as creepy new Dean Cipher. Supes being trained as soldiers. Annie January (Erin Moriarty) on the run. God U students getting collared and tased. How Gen V Season 2 Will Handle The Death Of Major Boys Spinoff Actor Addressed By Showrunner
Image
Gen V showrunner Michele Fazekas has addressed how season 2 of The Boys spinoff series will handle the death of a major actor who was part of season 1. Gen V season 2 sees the core cast of the spinoff return to Godolkin, where new threats abound. However, Chance Perdomo's Andre will not return after the actor's death in 2024.

'He Exists Throughout the Entire Season': Gen V Showrunner on Honoring Chance Perdomo in Season 2
Image
One of Gen V's showrunners recently opened up about how Season 2 plans to honor the late Chance Perdomo. The actor died in 2024 at the age of 27 after a motorcycle accident.

Speaking withEntertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con, Michele Fazekas talked about Perdomo's influence on the upcoming season of Amazon's hit The Boys spinoff. The show did not recast his part as Andre Anderson, instead choosing to adjust its storylines in order to pay tribute to Perdomo. "Just watching the show and watching even just the trailer for it...we did it so long ago and I remember being in the writer's room and talking about how important it was to honor him," Fazekas shared.

The early decision to make sure Perdomo's legacy was honored in Gen V impacted the entirety of the season. "And then when you watch the show, he exists throughout the entire season. It was,...

Image
The second season of Prime Video's Gen V is almost here, and as well as delivering big on the gross-out superhero action, the series also has some incredibly big boots to fill; those of the late actor Chance Perdomo. But the series isn't filling the proverbial boots. Instead, following the actor's untimely passing in 2024, showrunner Michele Fazekas revealed that his part won't be recast in the second season. Instead, Gen V has elected to write Perdomo's death into the series. As The Boys fans build up to the release of Gen V Season 2 on September 17, many are wondering exactly how the show will honor the memory of Perdomo.

Michele Fazekas spoke to Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con, and the Gen V showrunner addressed how Season 2 incorporated Perdomo's unexpected death. "[That was] probably the No. 1 thing we wanted to do," Fazekas said of honoring the late actor. "Just watching the show...

‘Gen V’ Season 2 Will Feature the Return of a Very Familiar Supe
Image
Although we might be preparing to say goodbye to her in the fifth and final season of The Boys, there’s another place where Erin Moriarty’s Annie January, aka Starlight, will be popping up before the grand finale — Season 2 of Gen V. Today, during the production’s presentation at San Diego Comic Con, it was revealed through the trailer that Moriarty’s character will play a superb role in helping Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and her friends get a one-up on Godolkin University. Despite other members of The Boys family, like Chace Crawford’s The Deep and Antony Starr’s Homelander, hopping in during the first season, this will be Starlight’s debut appearance on the popular offshoot.

When we last left off with Starlight, she was using her powers of flight to soar out of harm’s way after being attacked by a slew of Vought cronies alongside Hughie...

‘Respati’ Review: A Frightening Indonesian Nightmare [Panic Fest 2025]
Image
Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) wasn’t the first horror film to expound upon the terror of a nightmare, but it did wake filmmakers up to the possibilities that existed within that realm. More than four decades later, its influence is still being felt throughout the genre, as seen in Indonesian director Sidharta Tata’s newest film, Respati. Centered around a dream demon of sorts, the feature wears the influence of Craven on its sleeve, delivering an atmospheric tale chock full of frightening imagery. Though Tata’s latest tends to get away from the core concept to explore various other ideas—resulting in a bit of an overstuffed mattress of a film—an abundance of effective scares and the culturally rich story make Respati a nightmare that sticks with you.

Based on a novel by Ragiel Jp and adapted by Tata and co-writer Ambaridzki Ramadhantyo, we meet...

Variety has confirmed with sources that Michele Fazekas has been named showrunner of the cop drama, having previously worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the series from 2001-2006. ‘Law & Order: Svu’ Makes History, Naming Michele Fazekas Showrunner As NBC Drama Eyes Season 27
Image
Exclusive: NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has a new showrunner, Michele Fazekas, who is returning to the venerable crime drama after almost two decades. Coming off a stint as showrunner/co-showrunner on Prime Video’s Gen V, Fazekas is replacing David Graziano who served as Svu showrunner for the past three seasons and will finish the current Season 26 before handing over the reins to Fazekas. The NBC procedural, from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, has not been renewed yet for 2025-26 yet but that is fully expected.

Fazekas’ appointment marks the first time in Svu‘s 26-year history that a female showrunner will spearhead the series, which has a female lead, Mariska Hargitay as the iconic Captain Olivia Benson, and deals primarily with sexual crimes against women.

“As I see it and look back, Olivia Benson is sort of a perfect feminist story because we actually see this woman grow into her power,...

Gen V Update Shared By Eric Kripke; Trailer Coming Soon
Image
Gen V is the first spin off show from Amazon Prime's very successful superhero show The Boys, a show that goes into what superheroes would be like if they were pretty much all bad people. Gen V's first season shows viewers what going to college as a superhero is like and, par for the course for anything related to The Boys, it's very good and frequently very gross.

Eric Kripke Reveals Major Update for ‘Gen V’ Season 2, Trailer Coming Soon
Image
After the third season of The Boys ended, we were treated to the first spin-off series, Gen V. The series focused on younger Supes and eventually tied into the main storyline, which is why it was received well by the fans in general.

A second season was announced and we knew, as has been confirmed, that it would be produced before the final season of The Boys. And while Chance Perdomo’s tragedy caused some problems, the production continued.

Eric Kripke, who is overseeing the whole franchise at Amazon, recently shared a major update on the show’s progress and we’d like to share it with you.

Jensen Ackles' The Boys Prequel Show Gets New Projected Release Window
Image
Prime Video is going all-in on The Boys universe with a new prequel TV show Vought Rising. A recent update has shed some light on the series' potential release window.

The Boys is based on the satirical superhero comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The flagship show already has one spin-off in the college-set series Gen V, which occurs concurrently with the timeline of The Boys.

Vought Rising was announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con as another spin-off to The Boys. But unlike Gen V, this series will be the franchise's first prequel, set in the 1950s and following the lives of controversial heroes Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash).

Exclusive: Amazon and Sony Television’s Vought Rising, a prequel of The Boys, has cast Elizabeth Posey in a leading and undisclosed role.

She joins Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, stars and executive producers, who will reprise their original The Boys roles of Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively.

Vought Rising was ordered to series by Prime Video last summer with mothership series executive producer Paul Grellong set as showrunner of the one-hour drama offshoot from franchise developer Eric Kripke. Will Hochman will also join the series, according to our sister company Variety.

Kripke and Grellong revealed at the time that the prequel is “a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.”

The Boys star Jack Quaid will "cry like a baby" when the show is over
Image
Prime Video's subversive acton-drama The Boys is one of the most popular genre shows out there, which is especially high praise given it's a superhero show operating outside the Marvel-dc super-complex. After four hugely successful seasons, showrunner Eric Kripke has decided to end the show with the upcoming season. What can we expect? Well, besides from pushing the bounderies of how much vulgarity can be put to screen, star Jack Quaid teases a "bittersweet" ending.

The saga has very much been told through the eyes of Quaid's character Hughie. In season 1, he represented a voice of reason among all the chaos, but after teaming up with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the Boys, he's become a pivotal figure in the ongoing fight to take down the oppressive, unhinged superhero Homelander (Anthony Starr).

The Boys season 5 is in production right now. By the time everything is wrapped up, Quaid will be an emotional wreck.
