Overlooked Comedy Movie With 80% Rt Score Is Now A Streaming Hit
Image
An overlooked comedy movie, boasting a strong Rotten Tomatoes score, has become a streaming hit. The genre has been unpredictable, but in recent years, Anyone But Youmanaged to excite rom-com fans and generate over $220 million, while A Real Pain earned multiple Academy Award nominations.

Among several comedy releases from last year, Dìdi and Problemista garnered praise from audiences, maintaining Tomatometer scores of 95% and 86%, respectively. The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, also performed well critically, despite an underwhelming box office.

This year has produced some highly enjoyable and surprisingly successful comedy movies, notably Novocaine and The Materialists. However, an acclaimed comedy drama, The Ballad of Wallis Island, starring Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden and holding an impressive 97% Tomatometer, seemingly went unnoticed.

Box Office: ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Climbs to $218 Million Globally, ‘Superman’ and ‘F1’ Cross $500 Million
Image
“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” was greeted with a hero’s welcome at the box office as Marvel’s newest superhero adventure touched down with $100 million overseas and $218 million globally.

Those ticket sales are ever-so-slightly above the international launch of “Superman,” which collected $95 million while debuting in 78 markets earlier in July. However, “Superman” (just barely) enjoyed a larger global debut with $220 million. “The Fantastic Four” landed in 52 markets with Mexico ($12 million), the United Kingdom ($10.8 million), France ($5.7 million) and Brazil ($5.1 million) standing as the top-earning territories. “First Steps” misfired in China with $4.5 million, which isn’t a surprise because the country has been hostile to most superhero movies in recent years. But even “Superman,” who is more recognizable but ultra-patriotic, managed to collect $6.6 million in its debut in China.

Directed by Matt Shakman, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” follows the superhero quartet of Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby...

Superman First Official Man Of Steel Concept Art Features David Corenswet's Final Costume Design
Image
Artist Constantine Sekeris has taken to Instagram to share a first look at some concept art for David Corenswet's Man of Steel from James Gunn's Superman movie. We

assume this is the final design (or very close to it), as the costume is pretty much exactly like the one Corenswet donned in the Dcu reboot.

Kal-El's Dcu suit is heavily inspired by Christopher Reeve's, with a few modern upgrades. Gunn has previously revealed that he did go back and forth on whether to include the red trunks, but ultimately decided to go with the classic look.

"One of the biggest questions was, were we going to have trunks, or were we going to not have trunks? I talked to Zack Snyder, who was like, 'You know, I tried a billion different versions with the trunks, and I couldn’t get there.' And I was feeling exactly the same way.

This $758M Space Drama Took Major Inspiration From A DC Superhero Film & Fans Are Only Now Noticing It
Image
Christopher Nolan Credits Henry Cavill’s Man Of Steel For Influencing His $758 Million Sci-Fi Epic(Photo Credit –Facebook)

When Interstellar dropped in 2014, viewers were awed by its vast space vision. The sci-fi drama pulled in over $758 million globally (via Box Office Mojo), locking in Christopher Nolan’s rank among top-tier filmmakers. What many may have missed is that its rustic, farmland visuals were subtly influenced by an unexpected source—the DC film Man of Steel. Despite different plots and tones, Nolan later admitted that Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot helped shape the bleak farmlands of his crumbling planet.

How Superman’s Kansas Roots Found Their Way Into Christopher Nolan’s Space Odyssey

A very few know that in 2013, Christopher Nolan came aboard Man of Steel as a producer, helping Zack Snyder reimagine Superman through a contemporary lens. Though not in the director’s chair, Nolan played a key role in...

George R.R. Martin Reveals Who’s The Better Superman Between David Corenswet and Henry Cavill
Image
George R.R. Martin has weighed in on the Superman debate in his recent blog post (via Not a Blog), calling David Corenswet‘s iteration one, if not the best, version of the character to grace the silver screen. Having read hundreds of comic books himself, Martin has been vocal about his admiration for Superman, and according to the revered novelist, Corenswet takes the cake in terms of being the most comic-book-accurate Superman.

Supes and I are old friends, and this is one of the best Superman movies in a long time… maybe ever. This new Superman reminds me of the version I used to read about when I was a kid.

Although a certain faction hasn’t been too thrilled about Corenswet’s Clark Kent, Martin was unwavering with his praise for the James Gunn movie.

Warhammer 40K: Henry Cavill’s Favorite Chapter Lives & Breathes Superman’s ‘Kindness Is the New Punk Rock’ Philosophy
Image
Though Henry Cavill was removed from James Gunn’s Dcu and he quit Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher, the Man of Steel actor is busy doing what he loves. Being an avid gamer, Cavill is currently working on his Warhammer 40K project, and from what he tells us, it’s quite interesting. With the series being in development by Amazon and Cavill being the star as well as the Executive Producer of the movie, he’s very excited about the upcoming show.

Back in 2021, the actor had sat down for a chat on the podcast, Pilot TV, wherein he talked about his Warhammer 40K passion and how much he loves playing these games. When asked about his favorite chapter, Cavill stated that he really loved playing the chapters of the Salamanders. And why not? The Salamanders are the epitome of the “Kindness is the new Punk Rock” philosophy depicted in James Gunn’s Superman,...

Henry Cavill Doesn’t Want to Play Eisenhorn in Warhammer, Said He’s a ‘Mere Inquisitor’
Image
Former Superman actor Henry Cavill has been attached to a live-action adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 miniature war game. During an appearance on the Pilot TV podcast, Cavill opened up about his love for the IP and discussed its potential adaptation.

Seems a shame to be a mere inquisitor.

Cavill made the above statement when the idea of him playing the role of Gregor Eisenhorn in the adaptation was being discussed. The actor rejected the character for being merely an Inquisitor within the game’s wider hierarchy and lore. Here is why Cavill’s rejection of the Eisenhorn role is a major blow to diehard Warhammer fans.

Sdcc Highlights: Nothing Beats Brandon Routh Ditching Superman For a Spider-Man Costume
Image
Brandon Routh is widely recognized as one of the best versions of live-action Superman, and he deserves every bit of that praise. But wait, what if he ditched the Man of Steel to become Spider-Man? Sounds unbelievable, yes, but that’s exactly what he did at the recently held San Diego Comic Con (Sdcc) 2025.

As can be seen in the videos currently making rounds on the internet, the superhero from Superman Returns really left pretty much everyone’s mouth hanging wide open when he took the stage during the All-American Rejects’ set while clad, neck to toe, in the web-slinger’s red and blue costume (via @getFANDOM on X).

But as attention-grabbing as that was, that move was followed by the actor going on to promote his upcoming horror-sci-fi, Ick.

Man Of Steel Writer David S. Goyer Shares His Candid Thoughts On James Gunn's Superman Movie
Image
David S. Goyer is no stranger to the DC Universe. He helped write Batman Begins, and worked on the stories for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Later, he penned the scripts for Zack Snyder's Dceu movies, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Goyer also counts Marvel's Blade trilogy and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance among his writing credits (he even stepped behind the camera to helm Blade: Trinity), and is someone whose work frequently draws mixed reviews from fans.

Talking to Cinemablend about The Sandman, Goyer shared his verdict on DC Studios and James Gunn's Superman movie. The polar opposite of his and Snyder's moody take on the character, Superman has received praise from critics and comic book readers for its hopeful, optimistic interpretation of the Kryptonian.

"I really liked it. People always assume that because I did The Dark Knight,...

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Set to Dominate 2025 Previews, Surpassing ‘Superman’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch’
Image
The superhero movie world just got a big reminder: it’s far from dead. Marvel Studios and Disney’s latest film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is making serious waves, pulling in about $23 million in Thursday previews that kicked off as early as 2Pm.

That number comes from industry sources, not Disney itself, but it’s already enough to make it the biggest MCU preview performance of the year.

Originally expected to open somewhere between $100 million to $110 million, the Matt Shakman-directed movie is looking like it could go even higher. It’s off to a stronger start than both Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World, more than doubling Thunderbolts*’ preview numbers and beating Captain America by about 92%. That’s a strong sign that fans are showing up in full force for Marvel’s first family.

Right now, The Fantastic Four has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% from critics and 92% from audiences.

'Fantastic Four' & 'Superman' Villains Compare Who Is Biggest Between Galactus and Lex Luthor
Image
Despite all the supposed competition between Marvel and DC movies, the stars of said movies seem to be more than capable of having a laugh about their respective comic book characters. In a recent interview with THR, Marvel’s new Galactus, Ralph Ineson, shared a hilarious story about how he and Superman’s Lex Luthor, aka fellow Brit actor Nicholas Hoult, exchanged text messages about their supervillains.

When it comes to DC villains, Lex Luthor has been a thorn in Superman’s side for decades, while over at Marvel, Galactus is literally one of the biggest villains in the entire history of Marvel Comics. But who gives the “all-time greatest performance?” Ineson said:

“We actually had a text conversation this morning about it. I sent him something off social media that said that he gave the all-time greatest superhero villain performance, and I said, ‘Hold my beer.’ He then laughed and said,...

Box Office: James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Is Not Flying as High Overseas
Image
On the same day that James Gunn’s Superman opened in U.S. theaters, President Donald Trump posted a meme of himself dressed as the Man of Steel. If there was a collective groan on the Warner Bros. lot, home of DC Studios, it’s no surprise. For years, the studio’s marketing mavens have worked to downplay the very pro-American aspect of the comic book hero when peddling the movie franchise internationally.

Superman opened to a promising $125 million domestically in a major win for Gunn and the Warner Bros.-owned DC Studios, which Gunn also happens to run alongside Peter Safran. Overseas was a different story, where the July summer tentpole debuted to $95 million, behind a projected launch of $100 million to $125 million.

The phrase “truth, justice and the American way” became forever aligned with the iconic character in the 1940s, thanks to the radio show Adventures of Superman. Fast-forward to 2006, when Warner Bros.

James Gunn’s Superman reboot, featuring David Corenswet as the iconic superhero, has not only earned widespread critical acclaim but is also enjoying a strong run at the global box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has grossed over $426 million worldwide, with $253 million from the domestic market and approximately $173 million from international territories.

In the process, Superman has already outgrossed several notable 2025 releases, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and 28 Years Later, among others. Given its current momentum, the film is expected to surpass the lifetime global gross of Tom Cruise’s original 1996 Mission: Impossible, which stands at nearly $457.6 million. However, catching up with the franchise’s most recent entry, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, might be a far tougher challenge.

James Gunn says “anti-American sentiment” hurting international box office for Superman
James Gunn
To date, James Gunn’s Superman has grossed over $425 million worldwide. As it stands, around 60% of that comes from its domestic take. So why isn’t Superman performing as well as globally? James Gunn thinks a few factors may be at play, including the political climate.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, James Gunn noted that the Man of Steel just isn’t as popular worldwide as some of the competition, saying, “Superman is not a known commodity in some places. He is not a big known superhero in some places like Batman is. That affects things. And it also affects things that we have a certain amount of anti-American sentiment around the world right now. It isn’t really helping us. So I think it’s just a matter of letting something grow.”

To Gunn’s point about Superman, according to The Numbers, 2013’s Man of Steel saw...

The Blair Witch Project Ott Release Update: Here’s Where You Can Stream Found-Footage Horror Classic Ahead Of Franchise Reboot!
Image
Where To Watch The Blair Witch Project Online? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

In 1999, a small indie film turned into a global phenomenon without needing big stars or fancy effects. The Blair Witch Project crept into theatres with a story that felt all too real, where three student filmmakers vanish in the woods while chasing a local legend, and what they left behind is their eerie, grainy footage.

It did not follow the usual horror formula, yet it drilled fear into viewers with its shaky camera and raw panic. It requires no special mention that it was a strange idea at the time, which soon sparked a wave of found-footage horror and made its mark as one of the scariest films ever made. The way it was promoted only added to the experience and many thought the footage was real.

The Blair Witch Project was released 26 years ago today. One of...

James Gunn Blames “Anti-American Sentiment” For ‘Superman’s Lower International Haul

Although Superman continues to dominate the domestic box office after two weeks, the Man of Steel hasn’t translated quite the same way to international audiences.

Director and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn recently commented on the movie’s international haul of $173 million, trailing behind the movie’s $253M gross since opening July 8 in theaters.

“We’re definitely performing better domestically than we are internationally, but internationally is also rising and having really good weekday numbers in the same way we are,” he explained to Rolling Stone. “So obviously the word of mouth is very positive both here and everywhere else. Which is the thing that we needed to do the most. At the same time, there are certain countries in which it’s really performing well. Brazil and the U.K.”

Gunn continued, “Superman is not a known commodity in some places. He is not a big known superhero...

Meloni currently stars in “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” where he reprises his “Law & Order: Svu” character, Elliot Stabler. “Organized Crime” recently moved from NBC to Peacock for its most recent installment, Season 5, that wrapped up on June 12. It has yet to receive a Season 6 renewal.

Christopher Meloni Joins Dan Fogelman’s NFL Family Drama at Hulu (Exclusive)
Image
Christopher Meloni is the first addition to Dan Fogelman’s upcoming Hulu series set in the world of pro football, Variety has learned exclusively.

The untitled series was originally announced in October 2024. Exact plot and character details are being kept mostly under wraps, aside from the fact the show is set inside the world of the NFL with a generational family component. Meloni will play the head coach of a team.

Meloni is no stranger to the world of football, as he was the quarterback of his high school team at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Virginia. 'Superman's International Box Office Failure Justified by James Gunn Because "Superman Is Not a Big Known Superhero"
Image
Superman might be kicking up a storm at the US box office, but the Dcu's first film is sitting in its own Fortress of Solitude at the international market. James Gunn wrote and directed the new movie, which stars David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel. Superman was released in theaters on July 10, and quickly smashed domestic box office records. But, despite Superman himself being a symbol of peace and hope for the world, international audiences haven't cared as much about the Man of Steel. There are many potential reasons why the film has fallen short internationally, and James Gunn recently chimed in with one unusual justification for Superman's box office failure overseas.

During a recent conversation with Rolling Stone, James Gunn addressed Superman's box office and gave a surprising justification for the film's weak performance overseas. At the time of publication, the film has grossed $416 million worldwide, with...

’Superman’ Soars Past M. Night Shyamalan’s 76% Rotten Tomatoes Blockbuster at Global Box Office
Image
Director James Gunn’s Superman has now officially passed the first important box office milestone in any tent pole’s theatrical journey. Because most of these films cost around $200 million to produce, it is believed that they absolutely must generate at least $400 million worldwide to break even. Supermantook just 10 days to hit the $400 million mark, and the movie is now on its way to meeting its projected lifetime haul of over $700 million. If it does so, it would overtake Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which concluded its run with just under $700 million worldwide. For now, however, Superman can bask in the success of passing one of director M. Night Shyamalan’s top-grossing films.

Superman’s $416 million running global haul puts it $8 million ahead of Shyamalan’s Signs, which debuted a little over two decades ago. Starring Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Abigail Breslin and Rory Culkin, the movie was produced...

'Man of Steel's David S. Goyer Heaps Praise on James Gunn's 'Superman'
Image
As the imaginary and largely fabricated "Snyder versus Gunn" discourse continues to divide the fans who have taken their love for their favorite superhero franchise a little bit too far, a key creative force behind previous Superman adaptations has shared their opinion of the latest Superman movie. David S. Goyer, the writer behind Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, the first film in the Snyderverse, offered his reaction to the 2025 feature starring David Corenswet as the titular DC icon.

Goyer, who also worked on superhero projects like The Dark Knight, Blade: Trinity, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, recently sat down to talk to CinemaBlend about his latest work in the Netflix series The Sandman. It didn't take long for the subject of the new Superman movie to come up, and Goyer offered his candid opinion on the James Gunn reboot:

All 2025 Superhero Movie Scores Are In — One Surprising Flop Takes the Top Spot

2025 has been a big year for superhero movies, with several major releases keeping fans busy. It kicked off with Captain America: Brave New World, followed by summer hits like Thunderbolts* and Superman.

The superhero season is wrapping up soon with Fantastic Four: First Steps. Now that critics’ scores are out for most of these movies, it’s clear the year was mostly a success, at least when it comes to reviews. Even though many films struggled at the box office, both critics and audiences generally liked what they saw. There’s one big exception though.

At the bottom of the ratings list sits Captain America: Brave New World, with critics giving it a low 46% score and audiences rating it 75%. Critics were mixed on the movie’s story, its connections to other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, and its visual effects.

All 2025 Superhero Movie Rotten Tomatoes Scores Revealed — One Shocking Flop Tops the List
Image
The year 2025 turned out to be a big one for superhero movies. It kicked off with the release of Captain America: Brave New World, followed by Thunderbolts* and Superman during the summer.

Soon, the superhero season will wrap up with Fantastic Four: First Steps. Now that critics’ scores for these films are all out, we can say it’s been a pretty good year overall. Most movies did well with fans and reviewers, even if some didn’t make a big splash at the box office. There was, however, one clear exception.

Captain America: Brave New World landed at the bottom of the list. Critics gave it a low score of just 46%, while audiences were more forgiving with a 75% approval rating. Reviews were mixed, with many critics divided on the story, the connections to other Marvel projects, and the special effects.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps review | Now this is a bit more like it
Image
Matt Shakman brings Marvel’s “first family” onto the big screen, but is it any good? Here’s our The Fantastic Four: First Steps review.

Historically, Fantastic Four is one of Marvel’s biggest properties, but adapting the quartet to the big screen has been, well, challenging. The 2005 film, starring Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd, wasn’t great to begin with and certainly hasn’t improved over time while Josh Trank’s 2015 attempt promised more than it could deliver. Arguably, it’s Pixar’s pair of The Incredibles movies that have got closest to getting things right.

Director Matt Shakman then brings us the latest take on Marvel’s first family, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. His task comes with added pressure as Marvel is desperate for a hit after a string of underwhelming releases (although Thunderbolts remains an interesting release). Commercially, then, a lot is riding on First Steps...

‘Superman’ Test Screenings Asked ‘Why the F— Is He Saving a Squirrel?’ and James Gunn Originally Cut It Out: ‘I Put the Squirrel Back Despite Protestations’
Image
James Gunn revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that he refused to listen to “Superman” test screening audiences who opposed the moment when David Corenswet’s Man of Steel decides to save a squirrel as Metropolis is being attacked by a rampaging Kaiju monster. It’s a quick and utterly harmless beat in the film, but one that is key to getting across Superman’s empathy and kindness.

“It was probably the second- or third-most hotly debated moment in the movie,” Gunn said. “Because we showed it to test audiences and some people did not like the squirrel. They’re like, ‘Why the fuck is he saving a squirrel? Why is he taking time out, saving a squirrel?’ There was a cut where I cut it out and I’m like, ‘I really miss the squirrel. He’s gotta save the squirrel.’ In addition, there were also some geographic...

Box Office: ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Aims for $110 Million Liftoff
Image
It’s box office clobberin’ time — or so Marvel hopes.

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” the 37th installment in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe and third to release in 2025, is aiming for $100 million to $110 million in its opening weekend. The retro-futuristic adventure, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn as the titular team, is estimated to collect another $90 million to $100 million at the international box office for a global start between $190 million and $210 million.

Those ticket sales are similar to the Warner Bros. DC tentpole “Superman,” which took flight earlier this month with $125 million domestically and $220 million worldwide. Meanwhile projections are slightly above this year’s two prior Marvel entries, February’s “Captain America: Brave New World” with $88.8 million domestically and $181 million worldwide, and May’s “Thunderbolts” with $74 million domestically and $162 million worldwide.

Marvel movies often start strong, but “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” cratered in subsequent weekends,...

James Gunn's Superman Made One Of The Previous Man Of Steel Stars Cry
Image
Superman has been a part of American history for the better part of the century. He's famously faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. But he can also cry -- at least according to one actor who once donned the iconic blue-and-red spandex.

While audiences might associate the character of Superman with either James Gunn's hope-punk defender of justice from his recent blockbuster smash hit "Superman" or with Henry Cavill's depiction in Zack Snyder's brooding "Man of Steel," the truly definitive performance of Superman against which all others are judged remains Christopher Reeve's iconic portrayal of Kal-El from 1978's "Superman." While the film's three sequels produced diminishing results, Reeve's performance endured in cinema history. So when "X-Men" director Bryan Singer was hired to direct a new take on the iconic hero in the mid-2000s,...

Superman Can’t Soar Past Jurassic World Rebirth at Box-Office After James Gunn Blames ‘Anti-America’ Sentiment
Image
As DC enjoys its rise to the top with James Gunn‘s Superman, the good fortune that rubbed off on the franchise earlier seems now to be running low. Despite delivering a stunning film on Man of Steel by David Corenswet, the initial overwhelming response from the fans is now being tempered down by other box office launches, thus causing a hindrance in Superman‘s earnings.

In an appalling twist of fate, the Dcu lift-off film, Superman, has now failed to fly past even the worst Jurassic reboot in recent years. And all of it is an after-effect of the spreading ‘anti-America’ sentiment, if one were to believe DC chief and filmmaker James Gunn.

Despite superhero movies littering the streets of Hollywood in recent years, James Gunn’s Dcu manages to lift off with a blast with Superman.

Man of Steel Creator Finally Gives His Take on James Gunn’s Superman
Image
David S. Goyer, the man who co-wrote Man of Steel with Christopher Nolan, just gave James Gunn’s Superman (2025) a big thumbs up, and that might surprise a lot of Snyder fans. After all, Man of Steel (2013) was famously darker and more grounded, the kind of Superman movie that had Jonathan Kent telling Clark to maybe let a bus full of kids drown, and had a climactic battle that turned Metropolis into a disaster zone. And yes, if you hated the tornado scene, Goyer and Nolan are the ones who wrote that, too. Zack Snyder just brought their script to life visually. So you’d think Goyer would hate Gunn’s take on Superman, which is basically the opposite in tone. But no. In fact, he loved it. Speaking to Cinemablend while promoting Netflix’s The Sandman (which he co-created with Neil Gaiman and Allan Heinberg), Goyer was quick to praise the 2025 reboot.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps First Reviews Are In: Marvel Studios Finally Does Right By Its First Family
Image
The first social media reactions for The Fantastic Four: First Steps were glowing, though we know better than to put too much stock in those. After all, it's almost become a cliché for full reviews not to match what's initially said on X, but is that the case for Marvel Studios' latest movie?

The early buzz surrounding Matt Shakman's reboot was overwhelmingly positive, not dissimilar to Superman earlier this month.

Now that the review embargo has fully lifted, we see that those social posts were once again largely accurate, with critics hailing filmmaker Matt Shakman's reboot as a much-needed breath of fresh air for the MCU and a win for its First Family.

There are some complaints, though most seem to be the typical moans and groans we see whenever a new superhero movie is released.

As always, we'll start with the trades. Deadline's review is positive, arguing that,...

DC fast-tracking this movie instead of Superman 2 (and it could be a mistake)
Image
James Gunn’s Superman was a success at the box office and with the opinion of fans. People online have talked about how happy the movie made them in various ways. Among the things said is that this felt like everything Superman represents, and that's hope.

It wasn’t just Clark Kent who left people optimistic (even though he’s the main part of the story). Lois Lane, Mr. Terrific, and Jimmy Olsen all had a never-say-quit attitude. So much so that they aren’t taking any slander about the message of the film. And, for the most part, they’ve done it peacefully.

One of the reasons this movie did well is that everyone involved took their time putting it together. For example, the casting wasn’t rushed. Gunn and his fellow DC leaders took their time with the casting process, which has ultimately led to people like David Corenswet...

'Superman' Overtakes One of the Greatest X-Men Disappointments at the Domestic Box Office
Image
Before directing X-Men: First Class, director Matthew Vaughn was hired as Bryan Singer's replacement on X-Men: The Last Stand; Singer went off to direct Superman Returns for Warner Bros. instead. Vaughn eventually dropped out of the project as well, and was replaced by the now-cancelled Brett Ratner. The Last Stand remains one ofthe least-liked installments of the original X-Men trilogy, which, in many ways, shaped modern superhero cinema. It was a hit, but it was also unusually expensive. The movie has now been overtaken by director James Gunn's less-than-two-week-old Superman at the domestic box office.

In just 10 days of release, Supermanhas grossed $236 million at the domestic box office, which puts it $2 million ahead of The Last Stand. Released in 2006, the X-Men film grossed $460 million worldwide, against a reported budget of $210 million. It was an extremely expensive film at the time, and didn't do nearly as well as it was expected to.

‘Superman’ Takes Off, Creates an Exciting Future for the Dcu
Image
Critical and Commercial Acclaim Since its premiere last week, James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ has made its mark on audiences around the nation while dominating the box domestically (if only other countries liked the US right now). Achieving the second highest opening day of the year with $56.1 million, ‘Superman’ has shown no signs of slowing down, grossing $122 million domestically opening weekend and held on for a strong second weekend. In comparison, Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ grossed around $116 million domestically opening weekend, going on to make $670 million worldwide not long after. Although the production budget was around $250 million, the success of ‘Superman’ doesn’t necessarily lie in the numbers. The ability to charm both general audiences and critics alike is a rare feat for superhero movies in the 2020s, so it’s exciting to see such positive reactions for one of the most anticipated and most important movies of the year.

Box Office: James Gunn’s Superman Vs Iron Man & Other Superhero Franchises’ Starters

Superman, directed by James Gunn, has enjoyed positive reactions from audiences and critics alike, though this success appears not to have translated into auspicious box office results across global markets. While Warner Bros, Gunn, and devoted fans maintain the film will break even and recoup its investment, the reality appears increasingly clear: it might not surpass Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel after all. This disappointing trajectory raises questions about launching yet another DC universe when previous attempts have faltered. Let’s examine how Superman compares to other franchise openers!

Why James Gunn's Superman Sequel Should Not Feature Batman
Image
After roughly a decade of ups and downs, DC fans have a lot to celebrate right now. James Gunn's "Superman" continues to be well-received by critics and audiences alike (you can read /Film's review here), and the box office shows that viewers are eager to look towards a vibrant, optimistic future for the newly rebooted Dcu. While Metropolis' future looks brighter than ever, Gotham City is also on a winning streak thanks to "The Penguin" receiving a whopping 24 Emmy nominations, as well as Matt Reeves finally submitting his script for "The Batman Part II."

Naturally, speculation about the future of the Dcu is running rampant. In particular, fans are now more eager than ever to see what a successful and cohesive shared universe featuring DC Comics characters can bring to both film and television. As exciting as it is to see "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" and "Clayface" hit theaters...
