Rosie is convinced that she will be released when Sam is taken out of the prison on his first birthday even though Pat has tried to explain. When Rosie declares she would commit suicide if he were taken, Pat tries to alert Mrs. Davidson but Vera refuses to allow it because Erica is trying unsuccessfully to convince Roz to plead temporary insanity and then is leaving. In desperation, Pat pleads with Greg to get Angela Jeffries to get a psychiatrist to see Rosie; Karen is actually the one who passes the message on. Just before her interview with Dr. Weissman, Vera maliciously warns Rosie not to mention her suicide threats or she will seem mentally unstable and unfit to keep her baby. She follows the advice; when the baby is taken and handed over to foster parents while she watches, she grows hysterical. A letter from Doreen reminds Lizzie of Sally Lee, and Meg nervously indicates she should not mention how she died (suicide), as Roz is looking as if she has given up hope herself. Roz goes blithely to court expecting acquittal and returns to Wentworth shell-shocked that she was given a life sentence. Alice Hemmings offers to send Doreen to secretarial school and takes her on a shopping spree for suitable clothes.
