Deep Freeze

Mr. Freeze kidnaps Miss Iceland and takes her prisoner in his icy lair to force her to be his wife, meanwhile he advances a sinister plan, breaks into a party at Wayne Manor and takes all the guests hostage including Bruce and Dick and disguises two of his henchmen as Batman and Robin to make them present at the scene and make them look ridiculous in front of public opinion. The dynamic duo's popularity is on the wane as the villain threatens to freeze all of Gotham City if he's not handed over a billion dollars. Finally and after escaping from an ice cream factory where Mr. Freeze had trapped them, Batman and Robin manage to disrupt their plans. The chapter is very good especially because of the disturbing presence of Otto Preminger who gives life to a truly sinister Mr. Freeze and capable of committing the most aberrant acts with poor Miss Iceland.

Even though it is a sweltering summer in Gotham. There is no water. Mr Freeze has frozen the reservoir.

He demands $1 billion from Gotham City or he will freeze it completely.

The city council do not have that kind of money. This could be a cold time for Gothamites. Batman and Robin were so ridiculed, they hung up their capes.

A little kid booed a picture of Batman and Robin and that hurt Bruce Wayne.

Still the Dynamic Duo on not in cold storage for long. Now wearing thermals, they decide to check out a possible hiding place and things begin to warm up as they encounter Mr Freeze and his goons.

Another episode where the fickle public turn on the crime fighters. Mr Freeze's plan to ice up the city was certainly daft.

"Deep Freeze" finds the Caped Crusaders avoiding the Frosty Freezies treatment by opening the steam valve with their feet, but in the wake of unpleasant rumors tarnishing their reputations, Batman decides it's time to hang up their capes and cowls. Meanwhile, Mister Freeze (Otto Preminger), believing the Dynamic Duo to be on ice for good, implements his diabolical scheme to hold Gotham City for a cool billion dollar ransom, or face being frozen solid in 90 degree summer heat. This is too much for Batman, who cannot stand by any longer with his beloved Gotham City in peril, going into action to put away the frosty culprit's best laid plans once and for all. Byron Keith is again on hand as Mayor Linseed, the seventh of his ten appearances, while the stunning Dee Hartford, in one of her last roles, turns up the heat in her one piece bathing suit. As difficult in front of the camera as he was behind it, 'wild' Otto Preminger sealed his own fate in not returning to play Mister Freeze for his next and final two parter, which saw Eli Wallach inherit the role in "Ice Spy"/"The Duo Defy."

The icy saga continues!

So diabolical Mr. Freeze (Otto Preminger) cleverly turns the tables on Batman and makes him out to be the villain of villains. Say it isn't so! Batman and Robin are considering ending their careers. More over, Freeze issues an ultimatum to frustrated Commissioner Gordon -- pay him a billion dollars OR he will cover Gotham City in ice, and in the middle of summer!

Doesn't get any campier than this. Wild stuff, including Miss Iceland (played by beautiful Dee Hartford) being frozen in a block of ice, all because she refuses to marry Mr. Freeze. The dirty rat! Cult film star Marie Windsor returns as Nellie, the crime reporter with another scoop on Batman.

Good BAMM, POWWW fight scene, though production notes indicate Preminger was not too cooperative with the crew. This eventually lead to his being replaced in the iconic role. It's a shame, because he truly was an unforgettable tv villain, and rates high among all the Batman baddies.

Well written by Max Hodge, especially the witty dialogue. Max wrote 4 episodes for the series, later into cop shows, such as IRONSIDE. SEASON 2 EPISODE 20 remastered color dvd box set.
