The collection of actors is very captivating. From the Gemini-nominated Rebecca Northan (read a nice Q&A article with Rebecca in U magazine published by her alma mater U. of Calgary - search for it on their site) to the relative newcomer with the large resume Connor Price (see him with Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man) to the hard-working and multi-talented Dan Payne (Stargate, multiple Muppets projects, multiple other movies), Carly McKillip has a great 'supporting' cast (she's no slouch either). Of course, Carly is the title character but her family takes on an equally important role in portraying this quirky BC family.
I think this show will need about another 5-6 episodes under its belt before we fully understand each character a bit better. We've seen glimpses of John's persona when he dreamt of a Tetris-filled life and saw his 'paranoia' with fame after his rookie photo shoot. I still think that Diane and Mac need some more time until we see who they really are. The other true supporting cast member (Marcus, Finn,...) are slowly rounding out as well.
Overall, very enjoyable. Hopefully will be around for a while.
I never read the books or anything, but the story line of the episode I saw was pretty funny - the kid who played Alice's boyfriend was an absolute freak.
I like the kid (Connot something or other) who plays her brother, and the dad (Dan Payne). Dan's a bit of a freak - he should be doing Saturday Night Live or something - I think his inner funny is trying to get out - though he looks a bit more leading-man type.
